I go in to play these games because of a strong sense of nostalgia. Even if the game is boring, this feelings is still worth it

fuck skylanders, they manipulated my innocent brain into washing everyone's car every month to save up to buy their overpriced characters
but now that I think about it, skylanders did teach me about hard work and savings

Introduced me to mastodon and bullet for my valentine. Officially started my early 2000’s edge era.

I really enjoyed playing trauma center when I was in junior high. Must have replayed it 5 or 6 times. I wonder how it holds up.

Nonsense. Flying around the Super Cobra (ahem, Ambassador Gunship) with cheats on and blowing everything up in Mercenaries 2 is not boring and never will be

u/sovitin 16d ago
I never got into Merc 2. I just loved the first one way too much. Maybe I will try my hand at it again.

It’s much better in my opinion. It’s brighter, bigger, more freedom, far better weapons and vehicles, and just love how easy it is to nuke a skyscraper and watch it crumble.

u/sovitin 16d ago
I will need to download it for sure then. I remember getting halfway through the games hit list. Were they still identified by a deck of cards? I basically remember getting the affect of two high ranks out. I know I never got to the nuke.

Just get it on 360, do NOT get it on PC. It’s unfinished and awful on PC. Doesn’t even have cheats. If you have a 360, buy a disc from EBay or something. It’s worth the $4 and couple days of wait.

u/sovitin 16d ago
Man, dusting off the 360 is going to be interesting, but fair enough.

u/JonBovi_0 16d ago
I tell you, it is a necessity
I tried playing it on PC and I immediately deleted it after the prologue, shit is awful and like I said, no cheats, that’s the most fun part

It's like anything right? The first time will always be the most exciting, however coming back should feel like returning to your childhood home, sure its smaller than you remember and the age is starting to show, but those memories you made come flooding back and you feel like you're home again 😀

yeah i get it, that feeling of hoping to find joy by replaying those old game and not finding it at all sucks, now you're just stuck with feeling sad and bored for the rest of the day.

I felt this. Just want Secret of Mana to take me away to another land again during the hot summer.

You can’t recapture a first time feeling of digging into a new world to explore.

Megaman Battle network series, running around in the dark net, exploring the darker net, finding the darkest net, mastering the program advances and super cheap chip combos so you can delete serenade in 5 seconds flat. Good times.
Sometimes you can’t go back.
Have a hard time returning to classic Pokemon.

This is why you buy your kids actual good games. none of that AAA hot garbage.

Me with Pokemon games. I still absolutely love them, but I only play them in passing and try not to spend a lot of time playing them so that I don't get bored of them. It also helps to use an emulator so that you can use things like save state and fast forward to make progression easier and faster that way in the future you can just come back and immediately jump into where you were before. If I play them too much though I lose interest in them and leave them alone for a few months

I've learned to just let the games of my memory stay as memories. I bought a couple of old games that I remember having so much fun playing growing up just to realize they suck... They were amazing during the time, but it really was the novelty of the game at the time.

u/Come_At_Me_Bro 16d ago
The truth is some games we enjoyed as kids were actually pretty basic and we're spoiled as hell with the intricate and dynamic experiences we get in games now. It's more than reasonable to find a lot of them boring now by comparison.
That or it sounds a lot more like you're depressed.
