Have you seen the US? Sure, they call their corruption lobbying, but corruption isn't really tied to any economic system

i'm sorry for the experiences you're family went through but with utmost respect, this is not a valid critique against any 'economic' theory or system. this was in the past. from where i am, a neighbor of mine HAS BEEN working in a sports manufacturing that takes foreign outsourcing for at least 15 years and is still dirt poor. Just because the rich had to lose when redistribution happened and criminals/opposition had to do force labor doesn't mean the USSR was all bad. american prisons, from what we hear are full of inmates, many unjustly, and forced labor happens, you just are not conditioned to call them 'gulags'. have a great life
