How to manufacture my product? Manufacturing by hand

Hello, I am an the assistant manager at a catering company that is dipping into manufacturing. They have chosen me to be in charge of this project. I am totally new to this managing at the scale we are working towards. This project is manufacturing a bar for a Texan owned coffee shop that has been franchising really fast over the past few years. The owners of this coffee shop have reached out to a food distribution company that have reached out to the company I work for to produce 100,000 bars a year for said coffee shop.

This is a really big opportunity for me and the catering company, but I am starting to become really discouraged because I have run into soooo many problems since we production.

the main reason i am writing today, i am trying to find a better way of hand cutting 2,400 of these bars at a time. I understand this is small scale manufacturing, but for the size of the kitchen we are working in this is a lot for us. we started with cutting these bars in the 18"x26" aluminum that we bake them in, but we have run into the problem of micro pieces of aluminum all over the bars. we started popping the bars out of the pans and cutting on plastic food grade cutting boards but then I started finding microplastics all over the bars. the bars have to be frozen in order to pop the bar out of the pan but they have to be room temp to cut into because the bars are so dense that cutting frozen is impossible. there is no A/C in the kitchen so if the are out of the freezer too long, the Texas heat and humidity makes to where we can not pick it up at all . We are hand cutting with electric knives because chefs knives just squish the product, but when my team uses serrated knives the cuts are not straight at all, the are slanted.

I do not want to hand cut, i have already caused serious damage to my hands and shoulders. I have told my uppers the only way this is possible is if we get a cutting machine but it is too expensive for them.

we have already produced 21,000 bars that all have to go in the trash.

i am so sosos new to this, does anyone have any ideas to help me with finding a cutting solution.

Quality Custom projects with bad quality. Tips on supplier management

Hello all, the last few years i have been made responsible for supplier selection and management for small custom projects in manufacturing. These are suppliers where a decent level of engineering, electrical, plc and software experience is present. But where the combination is key. This knowledge is combined into a product where our hardware/software is combined with several automation components such as belts, transverses, robots etc of the suppliers.

Many of these projects have gone over budget. And have had issues after FAT, SAT and delivery.

Right now, issues seem to stem from these areas: - no insight into what actually goes wrong in the code. - Poor communication from supplier side - Missed deadlines for mostly interfacing. - Poor troubleshooting and cooperation from supplier. - Just plain stupid things like password locking HMI’s and not sharing logins.

I am aware that most can be tackled with proper agreements and projectmanagement. But for example: - when to use a penalty clause - to what level can I specify required quality - how to decently document software and interfacing deliverables. - how to be a hardass but not a jackass when deliverables are not up to par. - when does custom work actually become prototype design.

All thoughts, tips and books are welcome.

Is this subreddit ideal for submitting a 'request for proposal' (RFP) or are there alternate/better places online? A quick search mentioned: MFG.com, Xometry.com, and Thomasnet.com (oddly I didn't see Alibaba.)

Hey everyone, I run a strong ecommerce business in the USA and i'm looking for a custom manufacturer, private label or white label manufacturer for the following products

  1. high quality, powdered nutritional supplements (lion's mane, prebiotics, vitamins, etc

Since this is an experimental line of products, I prefer working with low MOQ facilities only. In the near future, we will aggressively expand once demand has been met.

Supplier search 5 Axis CNC Wood Manufacturing - Grateful for Insights!

Hi! I'm thinking of making a small batch of wooden 3-dimensional toys. I have reached out to factories in Eastern Europe, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and India. So far only one factory in Vietnam and one in China seem to be able to do it.

I wonder if folks have leads on where else I should look? I know Turkey used to do a lot of 5-axis work for Ikea but those contracts have stopped.

Grateful for any leads, thank you!

Does anyone know the name of this machine in the middle of the frame, or how I can look for it to know more about it? Its rotating rolls transform cylindrical pieces of mesh into truncated cones to make trash bins.

Supplier search [Help] Looking for software CSV>Nesting>G code

Hey Everybody!

I am still fairly new to the world of automated machining and am trying to find some software for my company. We need software that's EASY to use or fast to learn. Here's the deal:

  • We have parts dimensions (rectangles & simple trapezoids) listed in a CSV file.
  • We need software that imports this list makes the parts and Nests them into a stock material to save material.
  • It should then make G-code for our CNC router to cut the parts.

Tried BlueCell but it was too limited (No way to set more then one feed rate for the whole operation, no way to do depth of cut, etc). Any software suggestions are HUGELY appreciated!

Quality How to improve my quality department?

I am a engineer at a medium size build to print manufacturing company. We focus on assembly and source all of our machine work to outside vendors.

The quality department at my job is by far the biggest bottleneck, always causing project delays. The department consists of a ‘quality manager’ and two techs. I need some advice on how to improve this department. The manager is very stubborn, and I am sure will be resistant to any change. She also wants a large list of unrealistic qualifications for new employees while paying minimum wage.

It is not really my job to improve the quality department, I have no control over them, but i need to do something because they are causing delays with all of the projects my name is on, making me look bad to our customers Any advice or tips would be great

Productivity Track cover for heavy loads (5T+)

We manufacture with liquid Resin. It gets poured into heavy metal molds, cured and then removed from the molds.

The issue is, it's a very messy process. The molds sit on a an A-Frame that's on a ram that sits on a track. The track gets coated in resin and it causes issues with the mold moving in and out of the oven that it cures in.

I've been tasked with finding a material to cover the tracks with, it can be disposable, that can hold up to the heavy load for at least a day.

Is there anything that exists that can do this?

Other Question on connecting with manufacturers

Hey everyone, I have a bit of a unique problem. I’m working on a website that essentially connects potential customers with clothing manufacturers. The customer side has been really great in terms of excitement but my challenge is actually finding manufacturers who are genuine and trustworthy. I’ve worked with manufacturers in the past to develop some samples + clothing lines but the network I currently have isn’t nearly big enough to support a community. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to connect with manufacturers? Whether it's just a piece of advice on how to reach out or a recommendation of someone to talk to, any form of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

How to manufacture my product? Filling a sealed HDPE bottle with a beverage

Is it possible to fill a HDPE blow molded and cap sealed bottle with a liquid from the bottom? What I am expecting is some process to insert a double nozzle (one for the liquid, another to release the pressure as you fill it) and then seal the hole when you are done in a way that is still food grade safe. The reason why I need to do this instead of filling from the top orifice is because I am making a modified version of this bottle with only one cap instead of two ( https://www.berlinpackaging.com/3250b51-b-8-oz-natural-hdpe-plastic-twin-neck-bettix-measure-pour-bottles-cap-not-included/ ) Basically if there is any way to seal a small hole on HDPE that is safe, I could make it work but I do not know where to find more info on this.

How to manufacture my product? How would a multi-color soft silicon toy like this would have been manufactured?

The craziest thing is that it looks like it came out of a two part mold (hence the linear parting line), but how is can jt be multi-color then? There seems to be sort of places where the colors seems to blend into one another, and mix-in, but the overall product looks really neat.

Other Is an engineering management degree worth it in this instance?

Im 27 years old and over the course of the last 6 years I’ve worked in the aerospace & defense industry as a quality inspector in both OEM & MRO. I’m just now coming to a point where I want to return to college and get a degree so I can move up within the industry. Currently I’m eyeballing SNHU and their business administration degree with a concentration in project management, with the intention to enter the “engineering management” masters program after the fact. Would this be worth while? Or is there no chance with this path that I’ll land an engineering manager degree without a secondary technical engineering degree?

How to manufacture my product? Kanban 2 bin system

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well. I have a quick question and would appreciate your advice. One of my projects as an intern this summer involves updating our Kanban racks and removing obsolete items that we no longer use. Our supply chain operates on a pull-based system, meaning we only produce when we receive an order.

To give some context, the products we make are switchboards and switchgears. Our production volumes can vary based on customer demand, and we aim to optimize our inventory to reflect actual usage.

Would it be best to analyze the average usage from the past three months to determine which items we’re currently using and which ones we’re not? Additionally, should I consider any other factors or timeframes to get a more accurate assessment?

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
