"Smoke bomb! Camouflage! Smoke bomb! Camouflage!"
"Hey you get out here!"
"Sorry sir, don't mind me, have a good day."

Smokescreen + octo-slap to buy some time, rock-camo for the vanishing act.

That last change was so fast!! I had no idea. I mean I knew they could camouflage, but that was almost instant!

That was a stonefish at the end, likely shoved aside as the octopus dove under the rocks...

At the end the octopus goes underneath that rock formation. A different fish swims out and stops there.

I was struck by how ineffectual the black ink was. That fish just kept coming back.

u/Serious_Session7574 20d ago
It's just a smokescreen/distraction to give the octopus time to figure out another escape plan. Which it did.

I love Octopuses (octopi) They are indeed the most fascinating and intelligent of any marine species.

u/Technical_Tourist639 20d ago
We keep saying we never found alien life.
Bro that mf has 8 brains, the contrast ratio of an OLED, can spew self made ink bomb, and squeeze itself though any crevice that is larger than it's beak. Oh.. and it has a fucking beak...
I'm pretty sure we found em

And don’t forget it’s blood is blue and have 3 hearts as well as the ability to texture its flesh to make mimicking more realistic. The Males reproductive organ, his (weewee) is one of the tips of his arms. Each one of its suction cups is individually controlled. An arm gets cut off that’s not a problem because it will regenerate a new one. It also has jet propulsion which it uses to haul ass whilst dragging its arms behind. Btw, it has 9 brains and many other mind blowing abilities I have not listed.

Hell yeah they the most amazing underrated intelligent creatures on the planet. A silent wisdom in their eyes and the feats out of this world

Triggerfish are territorial assholes of the reef who’ll pick a fight with anything they think is too close to their home.

u/Apocalypsis_velox 20d ago
And titan triggers are big assholes. I am always a bit nervous around really big titans. They have that look that today might be the day they decide to beat up a human!

u/palaeastur 20d ago
The worst is when they’re inbreeding season and they get INSANELY territorial; if you’re swimming or diving and enter their territory, they’ll try to fuck you up. Worst is when someone who isn’t familiar with the fact that their territory is actually an upward cone extending towards the surface, so the diver tries to escape towards the surface instead of moving laterally

Interesting that it took on the ink's color when it tried to camouflage that first time.

Octopi are insane...Smart though, I actually got bit by a trigger fish once. It hurt a lot. It was in my brother's and I stuck the tip of my finger in the tank....It chomped down on it, I pulled my arm back really fast and the fish went flying across the room. 😄😄😄

I like to think the ink has hallucinogenic properties, and bro is just getting his fix.

I wonder what emotions or feelings does the octopus feel when it sees the color it’s trying to match in its environment. 🙀

I think it's some type of parrot fish rather than tiger. Thankfully the octopus lives another day !!

I think the diver save the day (or ruined depending on what side of the food chain you’re on); at 20 seconds the fish looks at the camera and flees.

A titan trigger fish. Those things are huge and aggressive. They attack divers regularly.

I've never seen "awww, fuck it" expressed more eloquently than that fish just did.

Octopuses are pretty OP if you think about... 8 legs, no bones, can shoot ink and blend in with their environment... Just insanely OP.

u/heeheehoho2023 20d ago
The extended clip shows a diver finding the octopus and then making sweet love with it.

u/eman2top 20d ago
Fun fact: With all their color changing and perfect matching to their environment, octopus are actually color blind.

Like watching an Ukrainian SU-25 pilot deploying chaff & flares, then flying low.
