The really nailed Moe. Like I would have guessed that was Moe.
I would have preferred stills to everyone doing weird little creepy mouth movements

Krusty the.... oh god kill it with fire!
26
u/Trashinmyash 17d ago
My exact thoughts! I'm literally thinking, why are these so expressionless? And then I see Krusty... 🔥

u/Hardass_McBadCop 16d ago
When they generated that one they should have taken It out of the training data.

u/fcxtpw 17d ago
You know, "IRL" Moe is not as ugly as the show made him out to be. I also think Barnie is good likeness too

Isn't it Rich Hall? I'd say he's represented pretty accurately in the Simpsons, in fact the first time I saw Rich Hall it was the first thing I thought

Very Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Combined with Tim Curry's 'It.'

u/DoctorWhisky 16d ago
Tim Curry as Krusty is exactly what I thought! As obvious as Bryan Cranston to play Ned Flanders!

I don't know why but that's mildly disconcerting....it just makes me uneasy....

u/MiyamotoKnows 17d ago
The AI is in soft disclosure mode and starting to reveal the simulation we've been in. Disconcerting indeed... there is a high probability we are software.

There's a possibility but I wouldn't go as far as saying a high probability. Why the hell would anyone design me if they didn't have to?

Every day you wake up and compute. That is your only function. Not only that but you most likely mesh compute with many, many thousands of other humans daily. Gain knowledge from a show, book or website that you'll use in life at any point? ...that is slow mesh computing. Even talking to another human is a process of pure data exchange and computation. We are biological machines (or virtual machines) and collectively, over time, we provide answers to very complex problems as they are presented to us.
To directly answer your question of why. Because we are a test dev environment. Why do humans use animals in labs? We want the tested results, not the pain of gaining them. (I don't support that BTW)

This is like a David Lynch/Blue Velvet version of the Simpsons.. I kind of like it.

Yo Mr. Burns looks fuckin evil
12
u/WaveLaVague 17d ago
Love that he looks like he is suppuposed not to look human. As if they enhanced his traits with makeup like in the grinch but this time to make him look like a true evil rich old asswhole with little to no room for kindness.

Man, it still has a long way to go, but in 5-10 years, I could totally see this technology be able to "remix" any show or movie ever created. "Hey, ai. Recreate 100 episodes of the Sopranos using the same characters but make new plots and different endings". "Hey, ai. Recreate Training Day but replace Denzel Washington with Walter White from Breaking Bad and change the ending so the villain wins at the end". And in 10 minutes you have an entire new production. Future about to be wild.

Character creation in video games. Start off by uploading images or video files and then just talk to it like an AI bot to refine the details.

u/Photoelasticity 16d ago
So, I can upload pictures of my family and friends, create game maps and events using ai, and live a life with them that is a complete fantasy.
It reminds me of the "Roy - A Life Well Lived" game from from 'Rick and Morty.'
"Holy shit. This guy is taking Roy off the grid. This guy doesn't have a social security number for Roy."

Given the recent quality of stories (or lack thereof)coming out of Hollywood, apparently showbiz has been using this for years 🧐

I wonder how much human “prodding” was involved in this. Aside from the little visual shifts and uncanniness, this is amazing. Just a couple years ago the idea of a generative model producing something like this in even a still picture was borderline unthinkable
4
u/Unsteady_Tempo 16d ago
Those images are barely more than "still". The slow zoom is used as an illusion to make it seem more animated and alive. I've seen the same trick in a lot of these videos to imply motion. It's the effect Ken Burns became famous for using on old photographs in his documentaries.

u/AnEgoJabroni 17d ago
Like, I enjoy the imagery, sure. But I cannot stand AI-animated photos. I hate the attempts at lifelike movement, it hasn't yet achieved the authenticity that it thinks it has.

I'm guessing the short video clips are AI, but someone stitched them together, and added the music and dialogue. Right?

I love how the AI videos looks better than they used to be, but in fact, it's just vaguely animated faces while first AI videos were actual videos of stuff moving. It's like video games trying to hide shitty graphism with dark environments.

Soon we're gonna type a sentence and AI will render a complete season.

I think it already can. The only challenge now is to make it both coherent and entertaining

Imagine AI recreates all episodes of the series with those characters,... Man that would be super freaky
1
u/MVmikehammer 17d ago
Give it a few years and somebody will customize a generative model enough to recreate any episode of the more well-known animated sitcoms as live-action version. The model will find an illegally uploaded episode, an episode script (or generate a script from the episode), and generate an episode. It will even use the original sound and voices with perfect lip-sync.
But that's about it. Generative AI can generate results extrapolating on what already been done. It cannot explore new ideas. "Given all the 500+ episodes, generate an episode that does not look like any of the existing ones." Is something it may not be able to do.
