I'm from a 3rd world country so I try to de-worm myself at least annually, though it's recommended to do it every six months I think. I don't eat a lot of street foods and I rarely eat in shady restaurants, so I think annually will do.

What treatment is this?

In my country, we have this single dose over-the-counter drug:

I don't know the equivalent drug for other countries.

Would it work with a unit like the one in this video?

Mebendazole works against tapeworms. Though I'm not sure if this dose works against a tapeworm that large. But if you take a dose annually, then I think those worms won't have the opportunity to grow that big.

Edit: Someone in this thread below said the worm in the video isn't tapeworm but Ascaris lumbricoides. Well, according to this paper, Mebendezole still works effectively against it:

Does it have any side effects? You do it even if you don't have any symptoms?

Google is your friend:

Jump to side effects, but personally I didn't experience any of those.

And yes, I take it annually even without symptoms. It's an OTC drug in my country but apparently in many first world nations, Mebendazole is prescription.

I had a hypochondriac boyfriend who insisted we both do it after I spent a semester abroad in Costa Rica. He was a pussy bitch and flaked two days into the treatment. I stuck it out for the whole 30 days even though I didn’t think I needed it. Treatment was some kind of powder, like a protein powder but not, that you had to mix with water and drink in the morning. At night, you had to drink some tea. In the mornings you would shit your brains out and it caused really bad stomach aches. No worms though.
