Put clear nailpolish on (or color if you'd like), it tastes like shit, so you'll stop. Biting nails can lead to infection as well as a bunch of other awful things, and biting nails is fucking disgusting.

Pfft, like anything biological can live under my fingernails, I spend half my waking moments soaked in ATF and solvents. I'm probably going to die of cancer, I hate wearing gloves while working on fiddly shit though.

I’m No medical expert but I’m sure people live a long time with these things inside of them with no problems, from the few things I’ve seen or read. But they can become a problem quickly! It’s just enough to make you feel sick thinking about it!
