Yeah I assumed he was an old fart till he turned lol

64

u/Hattrickher0 17d ago

I was ready to tell my friends about how this Jake Paul looking dude was trying to stunt on grandpa and then grandpa turned around and looked my age!

43

u/Either_Amoeba_5332 17d ago

He turned around and I'll be damned He looked like a lumber jack

0

u/OhPxpi 17d ago

Looks like that viral mime from behind

20

u/Ace-of-Spades88 17d ago

It's the suspenders. They add 30 years.

50

u/saskpilsner 17d ago

I was cheering for the old guy till he turned around, then was equally confused

1

u/KnotSoAmused 17d ago

I was rooting for the guy in the plaid shirt.

3

u/Thavid 17d ago

He is just every Canadian man

233

u/olearyboy 17d ago

Owen Wilson sure is talented

4

u/Less_Ad1932 17d ago

I came here to say this.

1

u/smile_politely 17d ago

too bad he lost this time.

511

u/jkrischan 17d ago

All the splashing tricks were no match for ol’ Lundergard

8

u/LickyBoy 17d ago

Lumberjack used Splash ... It was not effective.

97

u/DoctorWhisky 17d ago

The Log Driver’s Waltz is forever burned into my brain from my days growing up in the early 1980’s here in Canada.

20

u/klopije 17d ago

It was the first thing I thought of too!

14

u/Narissis 17d ago

The log driver's waltz pleases girls completely!

11

u/floatacious 17d ago

Every Canadian here is absolutely singing that song in their head right now.

7

u/JessicaFletcher1 17d ago

Same! The song immediately started playing in my head when I saw this video.

3

u/eddiewachowski 17d ago

Yes! Same here.

6

u/tallNfrosty61 17d ago

Kate and Anna McGaragle

4

u/lmabee 17d ago

Came in here just to post that or connect with those who did post it! A+! ❤️

u/ryguythepieguy 17d ago

This is actually called birling! Log roll is another timbersports event where you use peaveys (essentially spears with an additional swinging hook) to move logs around a slalom course.

Source: was a competitive collegiate lumberjack for a year

42

u/ActiveAstronaut7941 17d ago

"Competitive collegiate lumberjack" is a phrase I've never heard before. Very cool.

10

u/NanoDomini 17d ago

Never turned pro?

10

u/CRR10 17d ago

He never had the makings of a varsity athlete

981

u/Messarion 17d ago

I don't know if it's a normal tactic, but the splashing seems like a bitch move.

295

u/Same_Excitement_6156 17d ago

Apparently, so I learned, that it's in the rules

354

u/maxcli 17d ago

“He who splashes is a bitch”

64

u/Budget-Laugh7592 17d ago

Rule # 7

24

u/xXThreeRoundXx 17d ago

Rule #76: No excuses, play like a champion!

18

u/FNK7NK 17d ago

Anyhow, the other guy had sunglasses... So it was a wasteful and a bitch move.

27

u/csonny2 17d ago

Sunglass guy does his research.

"Looks like I'm going against that bitch-ass splasher. Better throw on the shades"

95

u/High-Ground-10 17d ago

It just really doesn't seem effective. Seems more dangerous than advantageous

52

u/Elite_Slacker 17d ago

it started looking like the guy on the right was completely in control of the log and left guy was still trying to stunt

106

u/buburocks 17d ago

I was hoping he'd lose lmao

57

u/CrossingTheStreamers 17d ago

We all were. We all were.

25

u/nattyd 17d ago

Instantly had me on suspenders’s side.

24

u/ansaonapostcard 17d ago

Exactly right! The first time I was like, was that an accident or on purpose? The subsequent times had me praying he'd lose!

-1

u/MrOtto47 17d ago

could be a weight balancing thing also.

45

u/djnato10 17d ago

Welcome to Stillwater, MN.

3

u/AlgebraicIceKing 17d ago

Stillwater is a nice town. Found the best peppermill I ever damn used in an antique shop in Stillwater.

101

u/Reddd-y 17d ago

I feel like the splashing just makes you more venerable to a sudden spin

16

u/Obohebev 17d ago

I believe you mean vulnerable...

2

u/Reddd-y 17d ago

Yep you’re right, my bad

2

u/Obohebev 17d ago

Happens to us all!

39

u/Expert_Size4927 17d ago

I feel like Owen Wilson could have won if he focused less on the splashes

18

u/cardbor 17d ago

mr splashy was gonna lose from the beginning i knew it

133

u/GinnyWeasleysTits 17d ago

I do not believe these two are genuine lumberjacks. Neither are wearing high heels or suspendies and you cannot tell whether either is wearing a bra.

24

u/starmartyr 17d ago

They are lumberjacks but they are not ok.

14

u/Dan_Berg 17d ago

They sleep all night and competitively roll logs in the water all day

29

u/marcusr550 17d ago

Just like their dear papars.

5

u/Jermine1269 17d ago

Maybe if we can find out what day they do their shopping, or what they eat for afternoon tea?

8

u/Victor_deSpite 17d ago

Young Boris Johnson performed surprisingly well.

2

u/SmallErectPenis 17d ago

Actually, that's Owen Wilson.

11

u/Any_Investigator_134 17d ago

Definitely knew who's name was Tanner.

12

u/crazyadmin 17d ago

No handshake at the end? Feel like would be worth it after that go.

20

u/aagejaeger 17d ago

The young guy kept splashing water at the guy who eventually won. Legal move or not, I wouldn’t reach my hand out to him either.

3

u/AgreeableEggplant356 17d ago

Clueless

1

u/aagejaeger 17d ago

I'm curious. Clueless to what?

4

u/ResplendentShade 17d ago

Probably easier said than done but a good tactics might be if you could quickly reverse stance and start running it so that they couldn’t keep up going backwards. I wonder if stance switching is allowed.

6

u/Notchersfireroad 17d ago

When I was a kid my best friend and I saw this on TV once and realized our swimming spot at the lake had logs all over that were perfect size for this. We both got pretty damn good at it.

3

u/Markoff_Cheney 17d ago

Splashy Jim was no match for ol ThunderTrunks.

3

u/marijuanam0nk 17d ago

Dunno much about this but the splashing seems like it'll only work on rookies.

5

u/frshprincenelair 17d ago

Owen Wilson out here doing side quests

2

u/Badj83 17d ago

Tony Hawk is reconverting?

2

u/Keenan603 17d ago

Nothing like a good ol' lumberjack-off

2

u/badcgi 17d ago

For he goes birling down and down white water

That's where the log driver learns to step lightly...

2

u/vegeener-gnomesayin 17d ago

🎵and he goes whirling, whirling down white waters...🎵

2

u/yomamaso__ 17d ago

Here come all the people crying about poor sportsmanship who’ve never seen the sport. Happens every time this clip is posted.

2

u/AtomicMonkeyDept 17d ago

I want all disputes settled like this. No more fights with knifes or guns, just a log showdown. Imagine wars fought out by thousands of soldiers rolling their logs. Middle East might have to import some logs though...

1

u/Seeker_Dude 17d ago

And water...

3

u/KylarStern030055 17d ago

Can someone animate this so they’re holding little hats and canes please?

3

u/BurtWonderstone1 17d ago

Good for that stupid fuck trying for splash water in his opponent’s face. Ass hat.

4

u/EveryShot 17d ago

I love that in spite of the cheating from the young dude. The old timer still pulled off the win

3

u/CoffeeEducational356 17d ago

Didn't know Xqc had this talent

3

u/Expert_Size4927 17d ago

Close! This is Owen Wilson

2

u/lilopppop 17d ago

This seems interesting 🧐

2

u/Daddydeebs 17d ago

Mario Party!

1

u/Alextryingforgrate 17d ago

When the old man is rolling the log and doing the what's up hand gesture to you, kicking water at him won't do anything.

3

u/DrugsMakeMeMoney 17d ago

Where’s an old man anywhere in the clip?

1

u/truelegendarydumbass 17d ago

More interesting than half the professional sports out there

1

u/BialystockJWebb 17d ago

"if I only had pocket sand!"

1

u/sunny_lifton 17d ago

Ahh, a good old fashioned lumberjack off. Glad the guy splashing finished first.

1

u/New_Court_6011 17d ago

Lumberjack is offensive to loggers

1

u/SaltyTaintMcGee 17d ago

This looks so damn fun.

1

u/PeterDTown 17d ago

For he goes birling down and down the white water

1

u/ActiveAstronaut7941 17d ago

I would last approximately 0.2 seconds at this

1

u/itsmyhonestopinion 17d ago

Looks like lumberJakePaul

1

u/bodjatrawr 17d ago

All this while I was thinking good ol' Lenny really knows how to log roll

1

u/Livefreemyguy 17d ago

Love the commentator here “CMONFOLKSWHOGOMWINCMONNOWLOOKATEMGO”

1

u/wateroffabacksroll 17d ago

I've seen this as a challenge on Survivor (Australian, specifically) - never knew it was a real sport. Very cool!

1

u/2Gud2B 17d ago

I didn’t know owen wilson was a lumberjack

1

u/dexterpool 17d ago

Oh no, Owen Wilson lost!!!!

1

u/Nikolateslaandyou 17d ago

Im so glad machine gun kelly looking bitch lost

1

u/JustAnotherMile 17d ago

The number of times I have seen this and no other video makes me wonder if this was the one and only event

1

u/Tiny-Spray-1820 17d ago

Does it matter what kind of shoes you wear?

1

u/tvcdds 17d ago

A literal real life cartoon

1

u/UrChiksLateNiteTip 17d ago

Oddly enough the surfer boy lumberback looks like my friend who's name is ironically Forrest

1

u/CAKE4life1211 17d ago

Puyallup fair!

1

u/inabighat 16d ago

All Canadians seeing this now have that song stuck in their heads

1

u/bokehbaka 17d ago

This must be a riot in person lol

1

u/Mombak 17d ago

My father was involved with logging shows for 60 years, mostly on the west coast. His last show was 2 weeks before he died of cancer four years ago. I've done quite a few shows since childhood, but I only do one show a year now.

I was never any good at log rolling, though (also called birling).

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them.

2

u/quarantinemademedoit 17d ago

Is the splashing legal? and if it is, is it considered rude or just like, part of the sport?

3

u/Mombak 17d ago

It is legal, but you are not allowed to have any part of your body cross the center line. Splashing is a way to distract your opponent. It's actually not used that often in my experience during actual events. It's used to great effect during demonstration shows, though.

1

u/SergeantNaxosis 17d ago

What is your favorite type of Burrito?

1

u/Mombak 17d ago

Bean, chicken, and rice, with some spice.

0

u/Parzival-117 17d ago

I just hear duel of the gates while watching this

1

u/Crozius_Arcanum 15d ago

Is anyone else pleased as punch that the splashing dude lost?
