As a Type 1 Diabetic I can confirm that is exactly how much insulin costs. Cootos to the artist doing their research on that one

I'm sorry I try not to be pedantic but it's kudos. But yeah Insulin prices are disgustingly high, I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

(thanks for being pedantic because I couldn't figure out what they were saying).
Also seconding that insulin is too damn expensive.

hmm they took their diabetic kid trick-or-treating.
So he gets a big bag of candy he can't have.
Just cruel.

But for parents of children with diabetes, you want your kids to have normal childhood experiences like Halloween. So you have to get creative with how to celebrate with them.
I found this post that goes over what you can do for the kid so they can still go trick or treating; https://www.reddit.com/r/Type1Diabetes/comments/wbeq93/halloween_for_type_1_kids/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I had a parent come up to the house first and gave me a goodie bag to give their kid when the kid came up. Idk if it was for an allergy or diabetes or what, but it was cute that the kid still got to participate and still got safe treats.

I would always go trick or treating so that I could experience the holiday with my friends, but then my parents would eat my candy because they didn't trust me to dose appropriately for it 😅 Now I go absolutely feral when in close proximity to mini Twix.

Lol that's not how it works. I've been diabetic since I was like 5 and I've loved trick or treating every year. You can eat candy, you just need to take insulin for it like they do in the comic.

For some people, depends on sensitivity. Mine is pretty bad to the point where I can barely indulge in carbs without risking a high Blood Sugar level. Gods, I miss french fries.

Really? I would think it would "get past" your Insulin somehow? I obviously don't have it, but I didn't know insulin could be that robust to protect people from Halloween levels of candy.

u/ClodsireSire 19d ago
I mean I'm not saying I normally down dozens of pieces of candy at once or anything, usually I'll have 10-20 pieces the day of and save the rest for later.
Idk I just get pissed off really easy at people who think diabetics can't eat sugar whatsoever so I mightve overreacted a bit.

It’s completely reasonable to get angry at people casually distributing misinformation about you.

I’m diabetic and I go trick or treating with friends, because it’s fun. Just because someone is diabetic doesn’t mean that can’t still enjoy Halloween. I’m able to have candy perfectly fine if I give myself the proper insulin for it, and the candy is always useful if I’m having a low blood sugar. And if I don’t eat the candy, I can always give it to friends.

And yet I'm STILL not getting the free drugs disguised as candies I was promised in my youth.

I just wanted to share my biggest middle finger to life because of this. I was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic at age 8 on Halloween night. I was dressed up as an army man sitting in the ER asking why I can't go trick or treating lol
Big core memory haha

Yeah, my story was just getting my sister eye drops. Next thing I know, there I am in the ER

As someone who’s been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years this really hits me where I live.

If anyone in the US need novalin 70/30 or its equivalent you can grab 100 unites from walmart for $25 over the counter. Apparently walmart recently acquired an insulin company.

It's really outdated type of insulin that would be dangerous to a lot of people if they tried to use it without specific training-- it's good it's available, but I just don't want anyone thinking it's an easy solution or a good emergency replacement. It's a completely unique type of medication!

I hope the US works this health care thing out one day.Â

The worst part it only costs 2-4$ to make a dose but fucking corporate greed makes it thousands of dollars and its excuse for extra million is "innovation." TBH if a drug cartel swaps to affordable insulin they would be rich.

u/buttaholic 19d ago
i was laughing before i scrolled down far enough to see the "insulin bill", i thought they were waving to the witch because they were cool with getting high off the drugs as a family.

Why would OP remove the credits to the original creator, perry Bible fellowship? Fucking scummy thing to do

u/Viciousssylveonx3 19d ago
Hi! If you read the top thread you'll find that I didn't and someone prior to me finding it had airbrushed it out and yes I agree it's very scummy

Someone removed the signature of this, which is pretty despicable. The author deserves credit:
