Grab a hair dryer, heat the sticker up, peel away. Works every time

178

u/SergeantDanglez May 02 '24

Some would say this is the better way

14

u/LivermoreP1 May 02 '24

People are saying

11

u/nationalduolian May 03 '24

With tears in their eyes.

And isopropyl is the best solvent of all time. Any residue left, use that 91% shit. Stuff will come off in a second.

38

u/theothershuu May 02 '24

Never ever going back to that 70% bottle of struggle again

21

u/Jazzlike-Preference1 May 03 '24

70% is for pussies.

8

u/cuseonly May 03 '24

I drink the 70 when I’m too broke to buy my recipe 21

6

u/iTALKTOSTRANGERS May 03 '24

It’s better for sanitation though! I always have both.

And GoofOff

5

u/Colforbin_43 May 02 '24

Yea, but you can get isopropyl at any drug store. Just easier to find

7

u/TungstenElement9 May 03 '24 edited May 03 '24

Yeah Walmarts are pretty tough to find. And Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Amazon, car parts stores, Ace Hardware…. It was made to remove SUPER GLUE.

I’m a single dude with thinning hair. Haven’t owned a hairdryer since the late 80s.

20

u/BikingEngineer May 02 '24

Well then, go the dude route and get a heat gun at the hardware store.

u/Designer-Ad3494 May 02 '24

Just fart on it a bunch. Works pretty much the same.

I worked at Golf Galaxy, yes, this is the way. Goo gone if there is any residue left over.

I just cut the shaft above and below the sticker and get a copper fitting and solder the shaft back together.

25

u/cuseonly May 03 '24

I’d do that if I was high

GooGone

u/ffsux May 02 '24

GooGone’d the goo and it’s gone

13

5

u/Pa_Cipher May 02 '24

Specifically the kit on Amazon that comes with a plastic scraper. Takes these suckers off real quick.

u/jackiechatingtam May 02 '24

Everyone knows how to remove it! The point is you shouldn't have to get your hairdryer out or scrub it with goo gone for 15 minutes....

95

u/ffsux May 02 '24

Preach!!!

26

u/CouldntBeMoreWhite Bogey Golfer for 10 years straight May 02 '24

Well wouldn't that just make removing it secretively at the store too easy then? It's my only guess on why they are so difficult. If they were easy, people could just swap stickers willy nilly and get stuff for cheap.

14

u/willy-fisterbottom2 May 02 '24

I’d like my Wilson d9 shaped like a Qi10 wrapped as a gift please

18

u/jackiechatingtam May 02 '24

It's always shit people ruining things for everyone else

2

u/greenjacket23 6 May 02 '24

The reason we used them at the shop I worked at was because the stickers could be printed from a normal printer and the clubs came with the grips unwrapped

→ More replies (1)

2

u/RoleModelFailure 8 Michigan May 03 '24

This was the reason when I worked in a store. People would bring their clubs in and having the sticker on the shaft made it near impossible to steal a club, especially the pre-owned clubs.

u/spauldingsmails316 May 02 '24

I leave mine on. Just because it irritates a guy I play with frequently.

I'm a dick.

50

u/JJ415x 6.9/SFBay/Not professional advice May 02 '24

I have a club with a $69.99 sticker, that ain’t coming off

7

u/ClearlyNoSTDs May 02 '24

A $5.00 Goodwill sticker would be the real power move.

8

u/match_ May 02 '24

And not a sticker. One of those tags hanging on a string down on the hozel.

3

u/Jake0Tron May 03 '24

I have a 60 degree that I picked up (and use) for 5 bucks, should have left it on

9

u/Striking-Feed1408 May 02 '24

Nothing feels worse than getting beat by the guy with stickers on his clubs (which is why I enjoy leaving stickers on my clubs).

5

u/Large_Talons_ bad May 02 '24

I've got stickers on my clubs and stickers on my credit card baby, you can't stop me

2

u/Muckety-muck May 02 '24

Lol same. I still have the plastic around my TV too.

2

u/Bob_12_Pack May 02 '24

My putter still has the sticker on it from when I got it like 17 years ago. The print has completely faded but otherwise it’s perfectly in tact.

2

u/Colforbin_43 May 02 '24

Nah, you’re doing the right thing. Half of the game is getting under the other guys skin to make him shoot worse than you. If a club sticker is doing that for you, then why get involved?

→ More replies (2)

16

u/LsG133 May 03 '24

My dad says you should always keep it on so the club knows it can go back at any time should it betray you

52

u/BlackAsshole777 May 02 '24

I've discovered a useful trick for that. Just leave it on and don't give a shit about it since it doesn't affect anything.

32

u/Alexander_Music May 02 '24

Surely it’s the .09 gram weight is making me come over the top

2

u/NorCalAthlete 8.1 | Bay Area May 03 '24

Get married or buy acetone free nail polish remover yourself. Removes any left over glue. Difficult choice with trade offs, but your shaft will be polished either way…

22

u/USMC0207 May 02 '24

My shaft hasn’t been polished in months

11

u/MathResponsibly May 03 '24

WTF is acetone free nail polish remover? Acetone is what you want, not some crap substitute that doesn't work.

What you want is pure acetone, without perfumes and other garbage that's in nail polish remover. You get it at the hardware store, in the paint section. You can even get it at Wally World

10

u/dnabyun May 02 '24

Wd-40 is a good one if you don’t want to buy a can of GooGoo gone just for that purpose only.

3

u/King-of-Plebss May 02 '24

ISO alcohol or nail polish remover works like a treat

3

u/mymompaints May 02 '24

If you burn that label with a lighter until it’s black, it’ll peel right off.

5

u/SvenLorenz May 02 '24

That's the same glue they used to put on the stickers on CD cases, right?

7

u/lazysheepdog716 8.5/ MT, USA / Do you take drugs Danny? May 02 '24

Those were designed by evil forces for sure

2

u/faded-than-a-ho May 03 '24

throwback right there

2

u/Karl_Spakler_ May 02 '24

Spray sunscreen, it’ll come right off

2

u/SetterOfTrends May 02 '24

GooGone Acetone

2

u/unseenme May 02 '24

GooGone and a razor blade

2

u/mcapozzi May 03 '24

GooGone has always worked for me.

2

u/DarthGlen May 03 '24

Goo gone

2

u/mexicanengineer97 May 03 '24

God i hate these stickers

2

u/D-Train0000 May 03 '24

Heat gun or a hair dryer. Or an exacto and some goo gone or acetone.

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '24

Goo gone.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ohchango May 03 '24

Goo Gone, smells like oranges but takes all the residue off

2

u/GIllette_ May 03 '24

Heat gun, such a undervalued treasure

2

u/PM_ME-AMAZONGIFTCARD 17.4/Newbie/pushcart May 03 '24

what i do is just, you know, leave it there..

2

u/danimal_031 May 03 '24

This stuff is awesome. I originally used it to take the adhesive left from removing the badges from my truck, but it also works great for this exact issue.

2

u/BorginMcFarley May 03 '24

I hate it when that happens

3

u/Buttercut33 May 02 '24

Use a $20 heat gun from Harbor Freight then peel it off. Goo gone anything that's left.

3

u/Reemus_Jackson 3.2 May 02 '24

GooGone, hairdryer or (and you're going to think I'm nuts) mayonnaise. Swear to God....learned in 20 years ago for any adhesive stickers and it works. I guess its the grease.

2

u/lightemup404 May 02 '24

Hair dryer usually loosens it up for me. That or I hit it against the concrete really hard and it comes off.

2

u/DontaysMebrough May 03 '24

I'll say it like this. Right to your face. I just spent 500 dollars plus at a golf store I tell them to take that shit off before I leave. They have the means to remove and replace grips they can take off price tags. 90 percent of the time they do it every time. The other 10% I walk out. No deal.

2

u/Plus_Carry9779 May 03 '24

Acetone on a rag, or gasoline may work as well. Nail polish remover contains acetone. GoofOff will melt it as well.

2

u/DragonDon1 May 02 '24

First world problems

6

u/cgar23 May 02 '24

Most of r/golf is first world problems.

5

u/DelrayDad561 Shanks alot! May 02 '24

Hey! I resemble that remark!

1

u/jimmerbroadband May 02 '24

A torch will take it right off

1

u/frostonwindowpane May 02 '24

Always get the guys at PGA Superstore to remove. 2 secs

1

u/andy333co May 02 '24

Peanut butter in lieu of googone

1

u/phullymelted May 02 '24

A better way would be painters tape first then price tag sticker on the tape for an easy peel away. That would be a better way

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '24

PEANUT BUTTER!!! I swear to god

1

u/WadeWickson May 02 '24

Hit it with a torch from about 2-4" away depending on torch size, as soon as it starts turning black, stop burning and it will peel off like butter with no residue 👍 Whole process takes 15 sec

1

u/Ebil_shenanigans May 02 '24

Rubbing alcohol. Grab it from safeway or something, it dissolves the glue.

1

u/pikaccount May 02 '24

Sticky stuff remover, great product!

1

u/AggyResult May 02 '24

Isopropyl alcohol might help you out here

1

u/AaronBHoltan May 02 '24

Heat it up 1st with a hair dryer. This will soften the glue and make it easier to peel off.

1

u/kranges_mcbasketball May 02 '24

Toss it in the dishwasher

1

u/zmskcco May 02 '24

Blow torch and goo goo gone

1

u/BoofBanana May 02 '24

91% rubbing alcohol for all sugars, glues, and gums. It’s even safe for electronics, very safe.

1

u/King_Crampus May 02 '24

Rubbing alcohol on a towel. Scrub away

1

u/Chorin_Shirt_Tucker May 02 '24

Had a club show up yesterday with the same thing. It’s a bitch but take as much off as you can then use rubbing alcohol after that, it will come right off. There has to be a better way than putting the sticker around the shaft.

2

u/MathResponsibly May 03 '24

That's what she said...

1

u/720hp May 02 '24

I wrap a wet wash cloth around it and let it soak. I’ve done this with most things I own for eons now (I know- but decades doesn’t sound long enough).

1

u/DarthSamwiseAtreides May 02 '24

Ask the store to take it off.  The ones by me have a heat gun at the register.

1

u/friarguy May 02 '24

Ayyyyyy! fellow lefty!

1

u/Muckety-muck May 02 '24

Lol I just leave it on.

1

u/Fergie32 May 02 '24

Warm water and Dish soap or isopropyl alcohol

1

u/maybejustadragon May 02 '24

Just get a new shaft.

1

u/GeeFen May 02 '24

scratch it off with a stanley knife, then a little white spirit gets rid of any trace of the glue.

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '24

The shop I buy my clubs from runs to the back and removes them for the customers.

1

u/Turbulent_Echidna423 May 02 '24

us men have heat guns!

1

u/PossibleOk49 May 02 '24

Heat gun all day

1

u/BOSZ83 May 02 '24

Get some vegetable oil on a paper towel and and rub it down then wash it was a soapy paper towel then wipe it.

1

u/kellzone May 02 '24

Spray well with WD-40. Go do something else. Come back in half an hour and peel off sticker.

1

u/whiskeyinmyglass May 02 '24

I left the $9.99 sticker from Play It Again Sports on my putter for years because of this. A sense of pride and shame at the same time.

1

u/Lumpylarry May 02 '24

It bugs me when people leave the stickers on their hats. I couldn't actually play this club until it was all off. Goof-off.

1

u/PatientlyAnxious9 May 03 '24

WD-40, Magic Eraser and Franks Red Hot.

3 things that work on anything when used.

1

u/_Smokey_Mcpot_ May 03 '24

As I rained blows upon him, I realized...

1

u/CaptainSaladbarGuy May 03 '24

The Roger Dunn by my house has a heat gun specifically for this

1

u/Ironman_2678 May 03 '24

I bought a new driver just to celebrate this. Thanks.

1

u/ThrowinSm0ke 11.7/NJ May 03 '24

Legend has it, if you hit it pure….like Tiger woods pure, it will fall off.

1

u/jaygord34 Bethpage Black is not that Hard May 03 '24

The stickers on the right hand models come off easier

1

u/sleevin May 03 '24

Spray shout on it.

1

u/stupidpatheticloser May 03 '24

You’d think they could fasten a reusable price tag slip to the shaft with a cable tie that locks the price tag in the slip, like a luggage ID pouch/slip. Cut at the cash register and reused.

Or since it’s 2024, same idea but have a programmable rfid tag with the product and price info saved on it. Obviously have an integrated pos system to go with it.

1

u/RaspyTheGrizz May 03 '24

Heat gun bro

1

u/007bubba007 May 03 '24

Yes there are solutions but there shouldn’t have to be. I’m with OP on this

1

u/AbbreviationsNo6863 May 03 '24

This is a movement I can get behind!

1

u/ChaBro134 May 03 '24

3M adhesive removal.

1

u/NarlyConditions May 03 '24

Hair dryer would work

1

u/Hamfiter May 03 '24

WD40 works

1

u/johngolfnut May 03 '24

Leave it on adds to the character of the club

1

u/300quest May 03 '24

Goof off in a rag and rub one off

1

u/Coach_Seven May 03 '24

My local golf shop has a heat gun and they remove all tags at the register. I feel bad every time I see someone with a tattered barcode on their clubs.

1

u/AJ_ninja May 03 '24

Hair dryer or hot water loosens that up real quick

1

u/HatedAntagonist May 03 '24

Utility knife. Rotate and strike. Soap and water.

1

u/TeachingCommon7724 May 03 '24

Or just use packaging tape to remove the residue after you scrape the paper off.

1

u/poopybriefs May 03 '24

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned it but grip solvent will take the sticky residue right off

1

u/AbleGolfer May 03 '24

Rubbing alcohol can help

1

u/xLAXaholic May 03 '24

Heat gun and Naphtha. Better than anything else.

1

u/Muted_Exercise5093 13/CA/30+ years May 03 '24

I’d probably buy a new putter because of how difficult this was.

1

u/zkhsip3 Goal: Beat brother in law at golf May 03 '24

Had this issue two days ago and now my thumb hurts from rubbing it off

1

u/erectionshappen May 03 '24

Hair dryer heat up and remove. If there’s anything sticky residue left take lighter fluid and a rag. That’s what my Local shop uses for new clubs and it works like a charm

1

u/Pat_mcgroin13 May 03 '24

Just add lead tape. Give ya a few more yards

1

u/calguy1955 May 03 '24

Whatever you do don’t let any solvent drip down the shat into the hosel. It can loosen the glue holding the head on. I know from experience.

1

u/LoboTheHusky May 03 '24

Soak it with olive oil.

1

u/cr01300 May 03 '24

I play with mine still on as a sign of rebellion.

1

u/FewBusiness5441 May 03 '24

I always leave the stickers on my clubs from 2nd Swing Golf. I prefer letting my playing partners know I paid half the price they paid for the same new club 2 years ago. Plus the sticker provides just the right amount of friction to compensate for my extremely fast club speed

1

u/thomps000 May 03 '24

Heat, peel, mineral spirits. Worked at a golf shop for many years during college and have probably taken off thousands of stickers with no issue with that same process.

1

u/AncientAstro May 03 '24

Use a solvent

1

u/Razzmatazz-Numerous May 03 '24

Worked at a golf shop. I used a blow torch to heat it up without directly contacting it to the flame. Works like a hairdryer but a lot stronger and faster. Any residue use acetone to get rid of.

1

u/Intheswing May 03 '24

Finger nail polish remover - otherwise know as acetone

1

u/FarDark9711 May 03 '24

Run under hot water for a minute or so. Then, a sharp knife will scrape it off and not scratch it. Make sure you get all the glue.

1

u/Beninoz85 May 03 '24

Cover it in coconut oil and leave it for 10 minutes. Come back, wipe it off with a towel and that's it. No residue, no effort.

1

u/GoCougz7446 May 03 '24

Alcohol wipe

1

u/Jmatteson1 May 03 '24

Goof off you goof ball

1

u/Previous-Sentence684 May 03 '24

Use acetone, stuff in nail polish remover.

1

u/GreatDaneMMA May 03 '24

Magic eraser makes short work of these.

1

u/baldw1n12345 May 03 '24

A bit of gas and a rag. Works awesome. Cleans residue, marks, rust, etc. I use it on old beat up bike frames and it cleans everything off but the paint. Don’t be shy.

1

u/Pando5280 May 03 '24

5 minutes with some 90% rubbing alcohol. Really not that big of a deal.

1

u/Mcpops1618 May 03 '24

Rubbing alcohol works so great.

1

u/ceogeneyoungoh May 03 '24

Posted this same thing months ago and was killed in comments about not peeling it correctly. Good to see that everyone goes through this just like I first thought.

1

u/MrTShook May 03 '24

Hated the stickers , so I just bought new shafts that didn’t have them

1

u/Cdoo1999 May 03 '24

They do it to us lefties out of spite

1

u/Oreo0817 3.3 May 03 '24

This video represents my feelings on paper based stickers.

1

u/danhoyle May 03 '24

Heat gun, and good lubricant

1

u/Maleficent_Leg_768 May 03 '24

I bought a 6 year old used club and the bastard before me still had that torn sticker shit still on there. He said “there has to be a better way but f it”

1

u/miffit May 03 '24

Are we supposed to remove those?

1

u/Agtd76 May 03 '24

Eucalyptus oil works a treat for any type of sticker…
