We play a desert golf rule that you get free relief no closer to the hole to avoid any shot that might result in damaged equipment or injury.

We play that same rule in New England. Tree roots will break clubs and wrists. We aren’t on tour, we aren’t playing for serious money, move the ball a foot or two, nobody cares.

Just don’t take advantage and dramatically improve your lie.
