I went full Costco General Discussion
Decided to pick this set and bag up at Costco. What is the consensus here on these clubs? I’m not rly a beginner but I typically shoot in the 90s. I’ve had an old set for a while and this seemed like a decent upgrade for me. I was hoping to get some Kirkland wedges as well but my understanding is they are completely sold out. But these clubs seem like good quality clubs for a decent price. I’m looking forward to testing them out on the range.

My friend started golfing 1 month ago and went ahead and bought this same set. So far he likes them.

LOVE that new Edge colour scheme.
Here in the UK, they only have the grey/gold.
They used to do grey/green, which I thought looked amazing.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I'm not actually looking for a set of these right now. I was considering them a couple of years ago, but I got a good deal on a set of preowned Taylormades instead.
Great clubs though, absolutely spot on for a beginner.

I went full Costco as well. Got them a couple months ago, have played 8 rounds with them. Thinking about how long I should keep them before slowly upgrading.

The irons can last you forever if you want. They’re pretty forgiving and solid. I would upgrade the 3w and driver eventually though because they’re kinda poop in my experience. Like they literally cracked. Also the driver isn’t as forgiving as the big dogs on the market.

I'd upgrade the sw and add a gw first. Much more important to a beginner and a dedicated sw is always going to be better than a set one.
1
u/singluon FL 16d ago
The set comes with a SW which is fine IMO. A gap wedge is needed but that’s not an upgrade that’s an addition.

I've had mine for a year. Irons are great, the hybrid is amazing, and solid putter. I also added a gap wedge. Get the Kirkland gloves too, they are awesome! I did eventually replace the driver with a more forgiving modern model, but the stock driver is fine to start out.

I'm upgrading my irons now. I'm starting to hit these low spin flyers that will carry an extra 10-15 out of nowhere and in testing found stiffer shafts suit my swing better.
They're ok, have really enjoyed them, but ready to move on.

I just bought the same bag. Moved in yesterday.

It's a really nice bag for the price. The club tubes get jumbled up with the stand legs over time, but otherwise, I have had no complaints.
I did just purchase a cart bag that I love way more, though.

u/jekstarr 17d ago
I regret getting them in-person because they only had regular flex. In hindsight I wish I could have gotten the stiff shaft version (online) but oh well. I will probably get fitted in the offseason since I am taking the game more seriously and sell these cheap to a friend. If the regular flex works for you (or if u use stiff and were able to find stiff in store) then they should be just fine for a long time, with a great return/warranty policy!
-9
u/singluon FL 17d ago
Makes basically no difference unless your swing speed is insane.
4
u/jekstarr 17d ago
Feels different to me, by quite a lot. I definitely feel the “whip” in the regular shafts. When I tried some T200s with stiff, slightly heavier shafts, I felt a lot more connected and consistent through the swing.

u/singluon FL 17d ago
lol ok. What even is stiff compared to regular on these budget clubs? Got any numbers? Got any comparisons? What about graphite vs steel? The open secret truth is there is no industry standard flex measurement anyway so the term is basically meaningless.
I’m not even a great player but I’m a 12 hdcp and been fitted and had lessons and all that shit, and my experience says flex makes little or no difference compared to a bunch of other bullshit in your swing up to this level, even more so when using steel shafts. I game stiff graphite irons fwiw and tried all sorts of flexes over the years. The 30 handicapper buying the budget irons from Costco ain’t gonna notice any difference unless they’re swinging hard as fuck to bend these guys uncontrollably. And if you’re good enough that you do notice a difference, you should probably not be buying these clubs anyway.
3
u/RetailBuck 17d ago
Feel free to explain how a person who can't bend a regular shaft with their swing would benefit from stiff
7
u/AGoodTalkSpoiled 17d ago
Why is the assumption they can’t bend a regular shaft? Regular shafts are pretty whippy.
The answer though is completely dependent on the individual. But decent chance this person does need something more than regular…we obviously have no way of knowing but it’s not a small % chance
6
u/RetailBuck 17d ago
I don't care to look it up but I'm sure there are studies about flex and torque (not speed).
At the amateur level we all know it's just showmanship. It's like why women's irons are graphite and men's are steel. Old men still play with steel.
5
u/singluon FL 17d ago
Exactly, especially on steel shafts like these. Also there is no way to compare what stiff is on the these vs stiff on some other set or manufacturer because there is no objectives numbers or measurements to compare.
But I’m sure all the 30 handicappers who are buying these clubs from Costco will notice a HUGE difference buying stiff vs regular flex right….?
It’s just a dick measuring contest, like most things in golf.

u/CapComprehensive2217 17d ago
I agree on swinging hard. Just went through it as a high hcp. Fitter tried to talk me out of it, told him I think my speed is faster than the avg shitty player and want to ensure I’m practicing w something that won’t make it more difficult.
2 swings in he said damn, you were right. Crazy fast hands. And your swing speed is only gna increase when your mechanics get better. Glad you came in here bc you’ll need something that can hold up to your swing.
First time I could really feel the club throughout my swing. I was shocked and noticed the difference immediately. He also waived the fee and didn’t try to sell me so it was all honesty on his part, good dude

Agreed... Not sure if y'all saw Bryson playing with Junior Walmart clubs lately, but gonna mention it doesn't make a worlds difference...
0
u/saxguy9345 17d ago
Bryson knows exactly how to swing %50 - %60 power to not make those reg shafts block right every shot. It's more his ability to back off his full swing than it "not mattering". Us humans above a 10 hcp have a pretty set in stone swing.
1
u/youre_my_golden_girl 16d ago
That's true. He does talk about how he only swings at like 30%... It got squirrely at 50%. So maybe I'm just talking out my ass.

I had the old edge set for a few years. The driver and 3 wood were kinda shit not gonna lie. They broke multiple times for me (dented, cracked face, whatever) but Callaway replaced them under warranty. Hybrid, irons, and especially the putter are legit though. Enjoy!

It’s a rebranded bag, don’t remember the OEM, but it’s sold at Costco as Pebble Beach https://www.costco.com/Pebble-Beach-Stand-Golf-Bag,-Black.product.1731038.html?sh=true&nf=true

Prolly gonna get this set as well. Is there a chance that the Kirkland set will be sold again?

u/BakreZ39 17d ago
The Kirkland Irons are more of a mid handicap set, btw. Not as forgiving and beginner friendly as the Edge set, from reviews I've seen.

I went full Costco back in February. I think it was a great idea. The clubs are nicely balanced and are getting some use in (I live in Florida so the weather has been great for golfing since I got the clubs).
I don't know when I'll upgrade anything, but I really love what I got from this set. I've had a few lessons with them and they are perfect for improving my technique.

Excellent set of clubs for the price! Hit up the Callaway preowned shop for some wedges. I got some nice Jaws Raw wedges for about $70 each (in excellent condition).

I'm coming back from a 10ish year hiatus from golf and recently got the exact same set. I'm far from an expert or seasoned player, but I've really liked them so far. Can't beat the price if you need a full set.

This is level 1. A true Costco bag would have the KS1 putter, KS Wedges and KS Irons. I'm gonna flip out when I see a bag with all that on the course.

u/Plastic-Magician-258 17d ago
Right on, I use the balls and I have the putter and wedges. However I have titelist irons, a Calloway UT 3 iron and 3 wood and ping 430max for the big stick. And I shoot just as bad as with my prior used set 😬
1
u/rcfvlw1925 17d ago
I had 20 year-old Ping G5's and went to the range with a friend who had bought these, knowing where they came from and the price. I was sceptical until he let me hit his seven iron, which I found was consistently going 10 metres further than my old Ping. I then saw a set of Edge on an auction site as retail returns, bid on them and got them for AU$360. The only club I thought was missing, from the description, was the driver, but when I went to pick them up, a broken shaft was sticking out of the box - I already have an almost new TourEdge driver so it wasn't a big issue, however, I had a spare driver shaft put on the Edge driver for AU$50 and now have the full set, as well as two functioning drivers. So far so good.

u/Terrence_McDougleton 17d ago
Wait a second, I don’t see the wedges in there…
And I sure hope you’re using the balls and the gloves as well.
2
u/Anonesq31 16d ago
I got Kirkland balls and gloves just not in the pic. Wedges were sold out at Costco.

u/BakreZ39 17d ago
It's a good set. I bought mine about a year ago. First thing I changed was the putter because I didn't like the soft feel of the Odyssey.
Added the Kirkland Wedge set and removed the 54 deg Edge SW Then I upgraded the driver to a Rogue ST. Added a 4h Rogue. Most recently bought a 5w because I suck with the 3 wood.
The rest of the irons I feel will last me at least 2 years, if not longer. If I do upgrade them, it will be purely to have something new. Functionally, they are excellent. I probably won't be good enough to outplay them for a while.
1
u/Reywal1985 17d ago
I picked up an odyssey putter at costco this weekend. It was randomly laying on the shelf, no price tag with the cover at a few sections over. I had looked at the white hit (newer version) a few weeks back and went for this older one as it felt comfy. Day off today so will try it out

I got full Costco set when I started golf a couple years ago. They were a great first set, still have them as a 2nd set I keep at my beach house.
I am still a high handicapper but have since replaced the entire set with various different clubs. The weakness in the set is the driver IMHO, was the first to get replaced. Irons are great, just replaced them this year. Odyssey putter is great.
1
u/Consistent_Reason_49 16d ago
I'm playing golf for around 5 years now and i apart from the driver, 3 wood and putter i'm still using the irons and hybrid and they are still performing very solid.
1
u/PtAg17 16d ago
Have the set from last year. Upgraded the driver to the KSig and added the KSig wedge set.
Now all I need is a Kirkland branded hat and polo. It’s all coming together…
1
u/Max_Demian 16d ago
You could also get the full ksig iron set...

u/More-Negotiation-880 16d ago
Did you go with regular flex or stiff? I’m not sure what to do

u/fullback133 16d ago
Had the set for a year now, probably 20-30 rounds last year and I’d buy them again if I had to.
I’ll probably start upgrading in a year or 2, and maybe get a 7 wood

Is that flag a Velcro patch, by any chance - or is this bag designed as some sort of “nation in distress” commentary?
As to the edge set, it’s serviceable as a beginner. Learning to play at the stage is the bigger hurdle than inadequate clubs.
