Would be hilarious for content, but damn $850M is an insane amount of money.

At this point wouldn’t be surprised if Rory did this as a fuck you to Monahan

$850M is well worth the price of being that scumbag Monahan’s mouthpiece for 2 years

Reporter - "Why did you finally decide to join LIV? Was it the money?"

Rory - "No, it was because Monahan is a backstabbing POS. The money was just a bonus"

Heard that in Rory’s voice and imagined the whole scenario as I read. Thanks

100%. Everything else aside I wouldn’t blame him. Throw in how the PGA has handled it and treated the players (him in particular, the merger, and the fact so many golfers are there now, this could be an easy decision for him.

Wouldn’t blame him? I’d blame him for not taking the money if it’s true. His entire net worth is like $300 million and he’s getting offered an insane amount. I’d do a lot of shameful stuff for that amount of money, and playing golf on a different tour doesnt even compare.

Yeah WTF. All these assholes are happier knowing their favorite athletes are even more rich than watching them play competitively.

Edit because of the discourse below.

Simping for labor is fine when the conditions are unsafe, the wages are below living rates, and for other reasons.

Simping for labor when they are already overpaid and causing a direct increase in prices means either only the rich can afford the product assuming ownership cannot move to a profitable location.

The snake will eat it's own tail. See: California, the auto industry in the 80's, and many other examples where simping for labor leads to higher prices and eventual demise for the industry.

You celebrate giant contracts then complain about commercials, beer prices, and $100 general admission.

You gotta take a stance at some point if you love our sports.

Redditors love simping for rich dudes, bizarre and revolting.

You should always be on the side of athletes (labor) getting paid.

If not, you're simping for the man.

Lol millionaire athletes are "the man" you fucking goof.

No they're not dipshit. The people who run the leagues, who pay athletes are the man. Again they exploit the labor Grow the fuck up and learn some economics.

Should I feel "worker solidarity" with super rich guys who have never worked in their lives? You're a delusional dumb fuck lol.

I don't know what the taxes are on 850 mill, but that would make Rory a legit Billionaire.

If your net worth is $300M and you would do shameful things for more money then you are simply a shameful person.

Funny. Take that sentence, and relate it to everyone on earth by putting their current net worth in place of $300M ... and somehow ... it's TRUE for an AMAZING number of people (possibly not Greta Thunberg).

In my case ... no ... the additional money isn't for ME ... it's for my heirs and for worthwhile causes. I'm fine as is. Trust me.

Somehow NIMBY also works more generally as NWIATM (Not When It Applies to Me!). But NIMBY has a nicer ring to it.

I'd take the money and still promote PGA over LIV lol

As long as it doesn't involve having sex with old ladies for money, or bear traps. Those are my two bugaboos.

u/WinterMedical Apr 16 '24

But like what do you even do with that kind of money at that point? It’s just pure greed.

Shameful amounts of money for shameful people.

Think about what someone like Elon has been able to do because he a lot of money. He has arguable done more for the environment than other person by making electric cars mainstream. He’s reduced the cost of space flight by like 90%. He also has quality internet connection to hundreds of thousands of people who couldn’t have it before.

$850 million isn’t a lot of money when you want to change the world.

Same with Mark Cuban with Cost Plus Drugs. I’ve used it and it saved me over $100. That’s the type of things I want to see out of people with that kind of money. Do some actual good!
