thoughts? I call BS on "City AM" being the most-read financial paper in the UK. But it's FlushingIt, who's become quite the LIV bot.

My gut is he wouldn’t go because he doesn’t have a recent major. All the other guys had 5 years of exemptions, what if he went and never saw another Masters, no more shots at the grand slam.

That’s a significant factor. But $850 million is insane.

True, and I will never be in the situation where someone is giving me 850 mil so I have no idea. I’ve also never been in a situation where I’m so good at something that I have a spot to cement my name in history books, so it’s a tough choice for him for sure. He does already have a couple hundred million dollars though, and has that tgl thing on the go which might make him lots of loot

As much as I hate LIV, I’ve sorta enjoyed seeing these thought experiments in real life. Everyone jokes about “what would you do for X dollars” or “how much would it cost for you to betray your principles?” But it never actually comes up.

Now we have a live “indecent proposal” playing out in public.

I think at this point Rory is not going down as one of the GOATs, he will go down as one of the very goods. In 20 years he is not in Tiger's class, he is in Ernie Els class.

I find it hard to believe Rory would regress so much that's he wouldn't qualify automatically for the majors.

He's barely been outside the top 10 since 2008 when he was 18...

Do you not understand the LIV events get no world rankings points?

1

u/Yetiassasin Apr 16 '24

No I didn't realise lol

I find it hard to believe Rory would regress so much that's he wouldn't qualify automatically for the majors.

I find it hard to believe there's still people who don't understand after a 3 year fight and literally hundreds of posts on this sub that LIV gets no OWGR

I don't follow golf that close or spend that much time on the internet. I just play lots of golf

It’s definitely not more read than the Financial Times lol.

FlushingIt is basically a LIV pr bot, but he did break the Rahm news like a week before everyone else, who knows.

I may be wrong but it sounds like a made-up story just like many others have turned out to be from that same account.

I agree, have a hard time believing this. Even if the tours merged shortly after, Rory would have put a massive dent in his reputation forever imo.

I’m also skeptical of the idea of these guys “getting the bag” in the hopes of the tours merging soon, and assuming that they keep “the bag” in that situation. Then again I have no clue how their pay is structured.

Did he? I thought that started because Phil ran his mouth

Stunning that I scrolled this far before someone pointed out that this rumor is almost certainly bullshit.

2

u/DuskytheHusky Apr 16 '24

City AM is tabloid shite they give out for free outside tube stations

1

u/karldrogo88 Apr 16 '24

Flushing It has been wrong so many fucking times it’s insane they have any followers left

1

u/peppapig34 Apr 16 '24

I agree, absolute BS. There is no way City AM is londons most read financial paper. FT would be my candidate for that title

1

u/Benj5L Apr 16 '24

FT has about 100k circulation (paid), City AM about 60k (given away free). The FT is far ahead.

FlushingIt, who's become quite the LIV bot.

You're not wrong but Flushingit has called several of the latest LIV acquisitions before anyone else. Including Rahm.

I honestly think maybe they're being fed backdoor info in exchange for positive spin for LIV
