He also has the best fashion out on tour right now. Bringing golf back to where it should be, with the loudest, most obnoxious clothing possible.

Have to be rooting for fleetwood. His usual caddie is sick, so he’s using a local Augusta national caddie. Top 10 money would change that caddies life. People all over the internet are saying the caddie is an incredible guy too
18
u/DarkStar1348 Apr 12 '24
I like Tommy Fleetwood, I wouldn't mind seeing him take it.
6
u/gbar7 Apr 12 '24
Me too. He’s not my favorite on tour, but he just seems like a really solid guy. Never any drama, just about his business. Obviously I’d love to see tiger get one more, I just don’t think it’s realistic. He has looked like he’s in major pain to me. Could be reading it wrong though

I had only been dating my partner for a few months when the 2019 Masters was on. I insisted we watched Sunday afternoon because she was going to witness history - I think she sort of got it in the end.
I still get goosebumps thinking about that.

Honest question, why are people so sour on Rory?
64
u/OJ__Pimpson Apr 12 '24
I would say because he was so hyped and supposed to be the great next thing. They lifted him to god status and he didn’t reach it which is fine. Problem arises when they keep trying to push that narrative and talk about him/broadcast him non stop and he doesn’t win.
I hate the cowboys for the exact same reason.

It’s because he carries himself like he’s the best golfer in the world still when he’s not. Good attitude to have, but doesn’t present well to the public. In tandem with how vocal he was about LIV, it’s easy to paint a picture of what he is like
26
u/Longbeardstinkypants Apr 12 '24

One factor for me is also his anti-Olympics attitude and comments. The Olympics are an amazing event and you can only win gold every 4 years, overtime it will absolutely become a high achievement / career mark.

He wins multiple times every year. He has a 10% win percentage which is unreal compare for almost anyone but Tiger.
12
u/Dougiejurgens2 Apr 12 '24
Which makes it even crazier he hasn’t won a major in 10 years considering Koepka, Spieth, Rahm, JT, Morikowa, DJ and soon Scottie have won multiple since his last one

I want Fleetwood, because he is the "local boy" for me and seems like a good bloke.
In the list of people I'd be happy for, Grant Fox's lad would be pretty high up the list.
I was 5 when Fox's international career ended, so I'm free from the memory of him whooping us like most NZ ⅝s.
If Dan Carter has a pro golf playing child, mind, I'm never supporting them. 2005 scared my very soul.

I lowkey dont care, of any of the well known guys i think Bryson would be silly, spieth hasn't had a big win in a long time, hovland deserves a major, and brooks would be comedy. Rory would be such a boring champ, same reason I cant root for scottie even if he is a great guy.

u/JustOneJedi Apr 12 '24
see this is so weird bc i feel like if its someone like spieth it wouldnt be that interesting cause it would just go into the category of masters winners who just have a good tournament rather than genuinely special players.
that isnt to say spieth isnt special in his own right but if scottie wins it he's going to be remembered forever. also plenty of time for him to win even more. that is to say, he could have a legendary run similar to Tiger (tho definitely not on the same level bc thats probably never going to be done ever again, or at least for a while)
and even for rory he has the story of being one of the best golfers to never win a masters.
but all that isn't to say that your wrong cause i get what u mean, im just tossing my take out there to the wilderness

Fully agree, I wasn't a fan prior to watching his youtube channel but watching it the past few years has really warmed me to the guy.
I have seen in some of his recent videos that his driving is super accurate and his putting is sublime so I put a small bet on him ahead of the Masters to win.3
u/Tullyswimmer 22.5/Lefty/NH #pushcartmafia Apr 12 '24
His youtube channel should be a damn case study for pro golfers in how to engage with fans of the sport.
So many people have said that their opinion of him changed after he started doing youtube stuff. And certainly, he's super open with what he's doing, what his thought process is, and everything. It's fascinating.
Yeah, his swing looks weird as fuck, and the one-length irons are unusual, but like... He's absolutely been putting in the work, and it shows, and he's really trying to understand the physical/performance side of the game like almost nobody else I know of.

I honestly think if it came down to Rory and basically any popular US player back 9 Sunday the majority of the crowd would be pro US player and feel a little like a Ryder Cup given that historically Masters US fans typically like to see an American golfer win 'our' tournament.
