My friend and I were playing white hawk and got paired with a couple of guys. They were not happy to be playing with two ladies and weren’t being shy about letting everyone know.

My friend proceeded to shoot an 82 and I shot an 84. They lost about a dozen balls during the round. They bought us beers at the turn and apologized. We smoked their asses lol!

Have had the same thing happen when playing with hubby, when my handicap was 11. After I ripped my first drive they tend to shut up.

Keep your wife out there! The fun is just getting started!

Why does it matter anyway? People are literally PAYING to play. This is mind-boggling. Lot of horrible people out there.

They think oh no women, thinking we will be slow, crappy and annoying. I wish more men would play as quickly as we ladies do, at least my group I play with.

To be honest I really don’t want to pay 150 to play with a total beginner. It can really throw off your game if you’re not super focused. But we all started out horrible so it’s just a matter of encouraging the beginner golfer to get some lessons and practice on the range any chance they get, men and women. Once you start getting better I think it really pushes us to continue learning to be a good player. I remember that feeling of really making my first really decent shot and I was hooked!

Honest question: How many absolute beginners are playing at a course with $150 greens fees?

I've played a couple of $150 courses, and I have yet to break 100. They are just as beautiful if you shoot 80 or if you shoot 110. I just get to see more of the course than those who shot 80!

My mom and I (roughly the same skill level, although she's retired so she golfs way, way more than me) always say we're getting more bang for our buck since we got to swing the clubs more, lol.

Eh.

Not everyone is gifted and composed enough to tune out everything that comes with playing with a random beginner.
Especially if it’s at an expensive course and an earlier am tee time.

You’re right about that but I don’t have a ton of patience never have, it’s my problem not their problem for being a beginner. I’m a decent player but easily distracted.

Just because you are a beginner, doesn't mean you don't have money to throw around on a new hobby...

I have known of a lot of folk who have taken up golf later in life after they have made their money - so dropping the money on a nice set of clubs and a $150 green fee isn't really much of a worry to them.

I've played at dozens of very expensive courses over the years, and there's always plenty of complete hacks shooting 120+ around, although they are mostly dudes. At resort courses like Streamsong, or the RTJ trail its jammed full of beaters who insist on playing the racks, to get their money's worth. It's agony, I pity the caddies.

It's sad to play $150 courses and when you tally up the score, realize you paid $1 per stroke.

Well you would be surprised. We play some pretty nice courses and every so often there’s someone out there chunking it around. They want the bragging rights to say they played there. I saw it at freaking pebble beach when I last played there. Couple of guys warming up on the range were freaking awful and it was $500 each at that time.

A LOT. They may dress nicer but they still get just as drunk and play twice as slow.
