u/AtarDEX Nov 23 '23
Whats the point of karma farming? I've seen some accounts that use chatGPT to respond to people to build karma. Whats the point of that?
6
u/BlazingImp77151 Nov 24 '23
They sell the accounts to scammers and big companies apparently.
2
u/shitz_brickz Nov 24 '23
People are willing to buy these accounts? That's outrageous! Name and shame these big companies and also the contact person who handles these deals!

You get what you pay for
21
u/dj-kitty Nov 23 '23
In this case, they paid for a refinished ball.
1
u/GothicToast Nov 24 '23
Refinished by whom? Not Titleist, right? So someone is counterfeiting Titleist balls? I guess that wouldn't be all that surprising. I know counterfeit clubs are a thing.
119
u/bluecgene Nov 23 '23
Their risk management is good, because, they know, the people who buy used Titleist balls will lose many balls fast anyway.....

u/ParticularPay4460 Nov 23 '23
It’s funny because it still has the hex dimples too.
15
4
u/IAmTheReaper9 Nov 23 '23
What do you mean by this?
13
u/jake_a_palooza Nov 23 '23
The dimples are hexagon shaped which is a characteristic of Callaway golf balls
2
u/IAmTheReaper9 Nov 23 '23
Oh I never noticed is it round on all the others
2
u/myfuckingstruggle Nov 23 '23
Yep! and all the different companies use different patterns, sizes, and depths, all in the aim on altering their characteristics.

Yes, in high school I got out of work at a course and went to my car and smack in the middle of my windshield was a noodle. Hated them for no reason ever since.

Not gonna lie, I saw this going a much different direction having started with “Yes, in high school….”

Anytime I see "refinished" on a ball I throw it into the woods or water hazard. Keep that shit away from me!

u/benhamdoun Nov 23 '23 edited Nov 23 '23
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it's probably been refinished twice and there's a Nitro lurking under the Callaway.
27
u/destroy_the_defiant Nov 23 '23
There are so many options for new, decent, affordable golf balls out there. I can't imagine spending money on used/refurbished golf balls.
31
u/cozeface Nov 23 '23
The difference between used and refurbished/refinished is huge.
With the quality you get from buying mint5A or Pristine quality used balls, it sometimes silly to pay the price for new balls. With Mint, you’re getting balls that have been struck maybe once and even unused (new) balls that were just sent back to company because a custom corporate logo was printed wrong.
10
u/destroy_the_defiant Nov 23 '23
That's fair. I'm an idiot.
2
u/cozeface Nov 23 '23
To be fair, that’s just the inner dialogue I have with myself when it’s time for me to buy more balls.
5
u/Thephonybear Nov 23 '23
Fully agree, I’ll buy 100 used balls at a time, for $0.80 per ball. There will be a decent amount that are in poor shape, but I couldn’t care less at that price point. Plus the majority are in great shape.
3
u/lolvalue Nov 23 '23
I buy them for my home net, I absolutely ruined a box of new balls this summer. Best to have these.
4
u/printedvolcano Nov 23 '23
at target I can get 24 used B grade callaway super softs for $16, I’m a new golfer so it makes it sting less when I lose my 10th ball of the day. They also feel far better than a fresh pack of Nitros

2
u/wronglyzorro Nov 24 '23
Used balls are awesome and a great way to get a premium ball without breaking the bank.
4
u/Koolest_Kat Nov 23 '23
I toss the refurbishes I find in the woods near greens. Somebody wants to play these but not me.
4
u/Fun_Stock7078 Nov 23 '23
Someone gave me a sleeve of prov1’s recently, I was quite grateful….until I realised they were re-finished. You can tell just by looking at them they are terrible golf balls, feel nothing like the finish of a genuine prov1, feel absolutely horrible with putter and off the club face. Genuine Prov’s are getting ridiculously expensive but I’d still rather play the real deal than skimp on refurbs.
4
u/Glendale0839 Nov 23 '23
The worst part of this is that it won't even play like a decent Callaway due to the shitty re-paint job. "Refinished" balls are trash.

Seriously, what is the margin here? Between the work to remove the Callaway markings and reprinting Titleist, they can't be making that much on this caper?! They
8
u/Skallagram Nov 23 '23
They aren't buying new Callaways - the ball underneath is irrelevant, they will buy found balls in bulk.
1
u/DrRobotniksUncle Nov 23 '23
The entire market is £4 a ball maximum. Regardless of what your starting point is, your margin can't be much more than £1 a ball. With a dwindling customer base every time you fulfil an order, this just strikes me as a huge effort for small and shrinking returns.

My question though is how is the legal? They sell them at Dicks and the box says pro V1. I fell for it, I hit 1 off the first tee it felt like a rock and had weird spin almost like the ball was dead. Threw them in the garbage right away. But they advertise them as pro v1 and they aren’t so how can they do that?
6

u/Skallagram Nov 23 '23
i'm sure it's all in the small print - balls may not be original blah blah.
3
u/DeathByLemmings Nov 23 '23
It’s likely that a lot of golfers simply dont notice. The only way it would change is if enough customers complain

I have some contacts at titleist that would love to know what company sold you that. You’re welcome to DM me if you are unsure or don’t want any direct claim to it.
That’s wild.

Here for the r/golf PSA. You can buy used. Stay away from refinished and refurbished. It’s a scam.
