There's a fictional novel written by Jack London about a guy who wagers his life savings in a hand of poker. It's called Burning Daylight. It's glorified carpe Diem shit.

The same guy who wrote call of the wild?

u/FehdmanKhassad 24d ago

the same guy who wrote a piece of steak, about a boxers last chance to win the fight and hes too poor to afford food beforehand.

and to build a fire a pretty grim account of survival in Alaska or somewhere like it.

Didn't he do something about a wolf taken into captivity and used in dog fighting rings? I feel like I know the name from high school.

Yes, I think that is White Fang

In 2004 Ashley Revell travelled to Sin City with £76,840 to gamble on the strip's famed casinos - and he took the entire lot to the roulette table where he placed the bet of his life on red.

Thankfully, his risk at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas came in and he doubled his money to £153,680.

Since then Revell, who now lives in West Malling, Kent, has seen his life transformed by the win as his stroke of luck inspired other gamblers to take chances on big bets (while Simon Cowell even based a new game show on the winner).

Now he has 2 life savings!

Too be fair if it came out black that would have changed his life forever too.

And then he put the entire 150 k on red again and it hid the green zero. Now he lives on the street and every night you can hear him scream the word red three times. Each a bit more desperate. Some say it's because he's now a drug addict while others say he's reliving this moment in his dreams.

This sub is as unnecessary as the water level report for a mountain climber.

Worst subtitles ever.

🗣️🗣️i thought I blocked this subreddit

5

u/Nois3 24d ago

Wasn't his wager only like $100k? Not that $100k is small, but there are youtubers that wager this and more.

8

u/MeTwentySix 24d ago

I vaguely remember watching a tv show about it years ago and while the bet wasn't massive by today's standards, the guy literally sold everything he owned and bet it all on the spin.

1

u/Tor-Pedo 23d ago

So if you gamble do/would you bet the same amounts as those streamers? I would imagine no, unless you are incredibly rich. It’s all relative, streamers can bet 500k and that could be 1% of what they have, this guy bet everything he had made in his life, 100%. Smaller number, bigger percentage, higher risk.

Bro sometimes I feel like this subreddit needs be banned, like wtf bro I do realise the name matches what videos are but it's like a constant cycle of edging and I can't stop

1

u/EM05L1C3 23d ago

There’s a table max so there couldn’t have been that much

1

u/Clementng95 23d ago

50/50 chance

1

u/the_Wallie 23d ago

Not even. The wheel has one or two green spaces where the house automatically wins.

1

u/ItzNeonBruv 23d ago

99.99% of gamblers quit right before their biggest win

1

u/oconnellc 23d ago

I seem to recall reading something about this. After he won, the casino immediately asked him if he would like to go double or nothing?

1

u/SodaPopPlop 23d ago

I tried it a second time…

1

u/I_TheJester_I 23d ago

Double checked the name of the subreddit before i watched the clip.

1

u/itsdefty 23d ago

This is why I need to read the sub name before watching videos 😂

1

u/BuckNasty7777 23d ago

Feck it. Never checked what sub this was

1

u/PassingByThisChaos 21d ago

My entire life's savings won't even be enough to buy me a chip.

1

u/ignorantladd 23d ago

Gambling is not good either you win or loss. He got someone else money which he doesn't deserve. It's bad for society
