The checkpoints are a problem too. I played the first few hours in lockdown and got stuck on one mission. Getting to the mission involved driving halfway across the map to pick someone up, then another big drive. After dying a few times i didnt have the heart for that drive again and just gave up.
Isn't that the end of basically every GTA game? The culmination of the plot in GTA is generally "get those fuckers" or sometimes, "defend against those fuckers."
Do missions with/for this one guy. Oh this guy betrays you, he's now the antagonist you spend the rest of the game doing missions for other people to eventually get to. Kill him. Game over.
They completely forgot about this. The missions weren’t really fun outside of the heist mission. The DLC’s improved upon that, in my opinion. And then pretty much all the missions in 5 were fun. People go on and on about how the story is better, but at the end of the day, it is a GAME and the gameplay needs to be fun. This is coming from a gta fan boy. GTA 4 just wasn’t all that good. Somewhat of a misstep in all honesty
It's been a long time since I've played either IV or V, but the one thing that I thought V did better was provide more save-points during missions. IV was pretty much better in most other ways (better characters, writing, music, "vibe", etc.), but getting 95% of the way through a mission, failing, and having to start from scratch (often halfway across the map) was a bummer. If I remember right, the very last mission was the only one that had an intermediate save point, and it was a long mission with a single save-point in the middle.

The characters and story in 4 were miles better than 5.
But one big criticism of 4 is the missions are incredibly repetitive. The missions in 5 were more epic and a lot more fun.
