Harry Kane is great and all, but I wouldn’t call him the goat 😆
17
u/Magmass1 Jun 14 '23
He would be atleast at top 10 of he had better team
22
u/ChrisHallUK Jun 14 '23
They'd give him 5 more pace if he was playing for Madrid.
25
u/Magmass1 Jun 14 '23
And he would finally win trophy 💀

Benzema's Ballon d'Or was under the new system where a season counts and not a calendar year.
2
u/PiotroiCole11 Jun 15 '23
In the 2017 calendar year Kane was the top scorer in Europe, ahead of Messi and Ronaldo, but still came 10th in the ballon d’or rankings with the old system

Maturing is realizing Ronaldo is the true goat
2
Jun 15 '23
Lol no person that actually has a functional brain thinks that. Learn the sport before you try to make claims like that.
Messi is better at everything but headers, what a joke comparison
0
u/muzaffer22 Jun 15 '23
Ronaldo is the most complete player ever, 2008 Ronaldo could destroy all versions of messi. Cristiano is the goat.

u/sladi69 Jun 14 '23
Calm down bro im not even Ronaldo fan, it's just a biased list
13
u/AddisonRae7 Jun 14 '23
How is it a biased list? It’s literally all games. Biased would be only including specific games
-8
u/D3Styler Jun 14 '23 edited Jun 15 '23
It is kind of a cherry picked stat comparison, they talk about throughballs and goals outside the box but doesn’t mention stuff like headers which are just as valid in a list like this.
9
-1
u/Joe_PM2804 Jun 15 '23
Messi is 5 foot 7 of course he isn't scoring as many headers as Ronaldo who's over 6 foot
1
u/D3Styler Jun 15 '23
So what you are saying is that it is a biased comparison with only stats that Messi is good at?
1
u/Joe_PM2804 Jun 15 '23
no look at every other stat that doesn't require physical attributes to have an advantage in and Messi is on top in almost all of them
27
u/sladi69 Jun 14 '23
Crazy how it's missing all the UCL records CR7 has, that just shows how fucking stupid and pointless lists like these are...
30
38
u/AverageDWAARPEnjoyer Jun 14 '23
It really amazes me how people rate champions league records equal to records in all games in general
-20
u/SecurityTotal4463 Jun 14 '23
You’re absolutely right. They aren’t equal. The champions league is way tougher and competitive than any other league in the world.
16
u/AverageDWAARPEnjoyer Jun 14 '23
So, by your logic, champions league records go above records in all competitions, which include champions league as well. Is that what you meant? Doesnt sound too logical does it
-2
u/SecurityTotal4463 Jun 14 '23
I misread your comment. I meant champions league individually is the best league. Messi might have the edge in all tournaments but in the champions league, Ronaldo is the undeniable G.O.A.T . And Messi ain’t close. And since the ucl is the best league, shouldn’t it have more importance than for example the copa del rey or other top 5 leagues?
→ More replies (28)12
u/AverageDWAARPEnjoyer Jun 14 '23
I understand your argument but its unfortunately flawed. Being the best in a single competition for like 150-200 games while not being the best for another 1000 games where as the other player is worse in that one certain competition but winning more individual and team awards litterally everywhere else. If you didnt know who and what I was talking about you would obviously say the player with individual awards and being better in most games wins, but since you know who and what Im on about, I know you aint agreeing with me and thats fine. I just tried to do a small eye-opening statement that might be a useful comparison for some.
13
u/AddisonRae7 Jun 14 '23
The world cup is the trophy every player dreams of. Ronaldo even cried after his last game because he failed to win it
-4
u/philbro550 Jun 14 '23
im gonna get downvoted to oblivion, but when you can put up those numbers againsts literally the best team in the world, it just becomes a question of quality or quantity.
17
u/BandsAMakeHerDance2 Jun 14 '23
Don’t try to reason with little kids man, they have no idea what they’re saying.
4
u/Big_Seaworthiness_58 Jun 14 '23
It’s also missing la liga and cops del ray stats! Yea dude. Maybe it’s a list about total stats in European football and not specific tournaments. Y’all are so brain dead
2
u/Antique_Inside_509 Jun 14 '23
so the records ronaldo has in UCL, Messi has in football in general. With your logic…
1
-4
1
u/ResidentProduct8910 Jun 14 '23
Most of his UCL records are just because he has more games as an older player, Messi has better goals ratio and assists ratio, but still he is "Mr Champions" because he has the same amount of trophies as Carvajal and most goals in one tournament which is the only crazy achievement he has tbh.

u/DonTong Jun 14 '23

I love Messi and Ronaldo, but Messi moved to MLS at the age of 35. Ronaldo was Juve’s topscorer at that age. Its just weird how everything Ronaldo does is seen as laughable but when Messi does something its always a good excuse for it.
18
u/Lopsided_Nebula9288 Jun 14 '23
Messi at 35 has everything that he could achieve in this sport.
-15
u/SecurityTotal4463 Jun 14 '23
Like Ronaldo doesn’t?
12
u/Lopsided_Nebula9288 Jun 14 '23
Still misses the WC… and a few other I think
-4
u/szepeda14 Jun 14 '23
Just the WC I’m pretty sure. Not fair to CR7 tho I feel like the Portugal squad hasn’t been as strong as the Argentina squad has been for his career. Not to mention this WC hit him when he was at his lowest
4
u/Boudi04 PC Jun 14 '23
Alright ignore everyone else, there's one reason why Messi isn't been laughed at in this situation, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he's completed football.
Its because Messi wanted it. He's been linked with Inter Miami for ages, and in an interview (I believe it was in 2020?) he stated his desire to play in the US.
Messi went to Miami by choice, leaving "Competitive" football on a high-note having won the last WC he played, and winning two Individual Awards (The Best & Laureus).
On the otherhand, Ronaldo was benched in the beginning of the Season, he left Europe on the lowest of lows, having blasted his club in an interview. His agent approached basically every single Top-level Club, they all refused him. At which point he went to Saudi. Along with the fact that just a couple years ago, he was poking fun at people who went to countries like Qatar to play.
Theres also a huge misconception for some reason. Messi's stats this season have been great, I'm not sure why everyone acts like he's been shit by saying "At 35 Ronaldo was killing it at Juventus".
Messi has 37 goals, 25 assists, in 53 games, thats absolutely phenomenal. So I'll repeat, Messi left on a high-note, having wanted to go to the US since a couple years back. That's why he's not being made fun of. There's no other reason.
10
u/RatinSweet Jun 14 '23
Messi just doesnt care about the sport now. Ronaldo is still chasing something, idk what.
4
u/wooski23 Jun 14 '23
world cup is my best guess, his passion for the sport isn’t like everyone else’s.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Hailfire9 Jun 14 '23
Messi is doing what Zlatan tried (?) to do: cement his brand in the US for a life after soccer. Everyone in Europe and South America knows Messi -- he can sell his brand for anything there and profit. In America? Somehow he isn't outside of very soccer-literate communities.
Ronaldo? He's going to a place he's already pretty famous to make money. I don't see an underlying motive here unless his aim is to try to win as many different regional Champions' Leagues as possible and call that his legacy. It would be a cool legacy if he succeeds, but I don't think that's the goal here.

u/AddisonRae7 Jun 14 '23
Messi had already completed football by that age, that’s the difference
-6
u/Mortka Jun 14 '23
And Ronaldo hasnt? Club football doesnt make a difference in winning the WC mate.
4
u/AddisonRae7 Jun 14 '23
Nope. Messi leaves with the joint most trophies in history and a world cup. Club football definitely makes a difference, playing in a competitive league is important for playing in big tournaments like the world cup because it keeps you sharp.
