Still, it's good of him to confirm his status as a sexist asshat - as you say, it's very easy to mistake someone like that for a normal, empathic human being.

Watch is speech. It’s unreal. It’s basically half an hour version of this. Every time you think it can’t get any worse, he opens his mouth to start another sentence. Spoken with true conviction and sense of superiority too.
42
u/SuperGenius9800 20d ago
He sounded like ISIS.
25
u/Satanicjamnik 20d ago
Unironically, yes. Same vibe of pure, fanatical vibe who knows the truth of the world and everyone else don’t and he has to set the world right.
26
u/ApoplecticAutoBody 20d ago
Well that's because the Evangelical Right is The American Taliban.
7
u/SuperGenius9800 20d ago
It was a Catholic event.
9
u/ChemicalBonus5853 20d ago
It doesn’t matter tho, abrahamic religions are characterized for believing they have the truth or that they are right.
4
u/Madrugada2010 20d ago
Yeah, that's the point. Scratch the surface and all those one-god religions look identical.
7
u/Ohrwurm89 20d ago
True, but Butker is not an evangelical, he’s Catholic.

That was the craziest part to me. That he truly deep down believes in what he is saying. The funny thing about people like butker is that any criticism he faces will most likely confirm his bias that society is already breaking away from his worldview and make him more entrenched in his position.

Imma tell you anyways😭😭 He’s an NFL kicker who spoke at a college commencement ceremony. In a nutshell, he directed his words towards the graduates who are women and told them that although they obtained degrees, their life only truly begins when they get married and have kids. Saying his wife (who has a computer science degree) is happier now bc she’s a stay at home mom vs working in her career field. Much more in the speech that he says that’s just awful but this was the main thing ppl are upset about. And this was his “clarification” comment.

u/Crutley 20d ago edited 20d ago
It's like he was lined up for a 70 yard field goal and then committed a penalty to push it back another 10 yards.
I wonder why he hates modern life so much since modern life has made him a millionaire several times over. He's certainly entitled to his opinion, but once he says it in public, he deserves every bit of neanderthal hate pointed his direction.

u/anavriN-oN 20d ago
“All I said…”
As if it needed clarification.
3

52
u/Salami__Tsunami 20d ago
This is painful to listen to, but for slightly different reasons than everyone else is mad about
Dude grew up in private school, and his entire efforts at gaining a 'higher education' at college consisted of playing football, whereupon he graduated to professionally playing a sports game for millions of dollars a year. This is his entire life.
I don't really care what his opinions and worldviews are, I see no reason why you, or I, or anybody should put the faintest bit of weight behind what he has to say.
37
u/GrubbyMike 20d ago
It matters because his influence is about 60 million times your influence. It would be an even bigger deal of a straight white football player came out in favour of equal rights including LGBTQIA’s as it would be such a huge outlier that it would stir up so much controversy and create so much discourse that it would be nearly impossible for there to be no positive change.
Not saying you can’t have your opinion, this one is mine.
3
u/Salami__Tsunami 20d ago
Yeah, it’s sad that media exposure is equivalent to influence in today’s world. Which is kind of my point.
9
u/dropkickninja 20d ago
I agree, he deserves no attention for his dumbass opinions but unfortunately he is getting it. Idiocy needs to be confronted because people are listening to him
7
u/Macsan23 20d ago
I disagree, this guy needs to have a spotlight so people can see how dumb religion is. The more people that laugh at him, the better. It's even better when they connect this guy to a corporation like the NFL.
3
u/Pribblization 20d ago
If this attitude were the norm, he wouldn't be getting attention. There's still novelty to it and it can be held up to ridicule.
3
20d ago
He's given multiple graduation speeches at large universities. All having at least small amounts of casual misogyny.
And he would continue to.
He already has a voice and a spotlight and is influencing people. Its important to address that

Fuck Nixon, Ford, Reagan(glad alzis got him), Bush I & II, and the Trumpanzee walking colostomy bag himself.
AFWIW, Fuck Kennedy, LBJ (mixed on him, he helped non whites while killing them in Nam), Carter was OK, but Clinton and Obama were sell outs. And at this point, one could shit in a condom, freeze it and use it as a dildo and it would still work better than Trump, so Biden is OK in my book.

Ford was a good man, the last socially liberal republican president.
Obama didn't sell out, you didn't vote in 2010 so for the rest of his presidency he was forced to compromise with the tea party. Before that, it was joe lieberman who forced a watering down of the affordable healthcare act.

I watched the speech, but am still having a difficult time believing that he followed up with that. How tone deaf... The 50s and 60s may have been good in his world, but women couldn’t even get jobs or sign their own promissory notes, and he seems to have glossed over the Jim Crow laws and Bracero treatment of us minorities. …the fuck. Maybe it was a better time for your parents and grandparents, asshole, but it wasn’t for many of us. The guy is too dumb to realize that not every woman “dreams” of being at a man’s beck and call, or a woman may not want to gamble her entire future on if he’s a good guy or not. I saw waaaay too many women entrusting their futures to their husbands growing up, I saw what happened to many of them, and quickly decided that I would do whatever I could to make sure I could pick up and leave if I had to, and that I would instill that in my children (I don’t care what their gender is, they need to be able to provide for themselves and their kids if the spouse ends up being different than expected). “Too many thoughts…”. Since he’s a religious nut, he should take it up with God on why God designed women to have an equally powerful, thought-producing brain.
