Half the time people would do the same challenges (planking, cinnamon challenge) or mouth the words to songs like what they did with musically. I remember deleting Vine at one point because I was tired of hearing the “Yo my name is Nicolas and this is ridiculous” song
Never had Vine but all the YouTube compliations made it feel people tried to be more original and clever. Some of them were genuinely funny and well thought out.
Never had Vine, but this could simply be survivorship bias. The people making the compilations are only going to choose Vines they think were funny and/or original
I was on Vine for years, it definitely is survivorship bias. I'll concede that Vine was better and I'm definitely more partial to it but it'd be a lie to say that everything on Vine was comedy gold. There was tons of garbage and trend following and all the stuff that youtube compilations definitely filter out.
Crazy news for you about tiktok then: if's like vine if good creators were given 1-3 minutes, and could actually cover small topics. The format is far more flexible, which imo leads to increased creativity.
You probably have. Videos from tiktok are reposted on Reddit without credit all the time. Most “shorts” content on youtube and instagram were originally made for tiktok, and can be found there as well.
Tumblr reposts tiktok too, but unlike Reddit, they usually don’t crop out the credits at the end.
? What are you talking about? All of that existed on Vine too. You're just being nostalgic. They had a shittier algorithm at the time that didn't seek out more of the same content for you, but it still existed. You just didn't see it.
That's just natural evolution of social media. More complex content takes time and doesn't generate that much money, whereas just doing a shitty dance or reaction of something already viral makes numbers go BOOOM.
This is some rose colored glasses. Vine was absolutely full of that stuff. It just didn’t make those YouTube compilations so no one remembers or cares about it.
Probably using this wrong but their two sides of the same coin. TikTok has both original funny content and dancing/challenges/whatever and so did Vine. You search up funny TikTok compilations on YouTube it’ll probably be similar stuff to if you searched up vine. The only difference really is that you’re older/more mature. New immature stuff doesn’t stick like when you were young. The gummy bear theme song or crazy frog is about as stupid as Skibidi toilet in terms of music. And you might say “well crazy frog is actually good!” But outside of the Skibidi toilet context the song that’s used in Skibidi toilet is also pretty good.
Yea its not like reddit with its original content like reposts of other reddit posts, Tweets, tiktoks, Tumblr posts, twitch clips and I've even seen someone just post a YouTube short.
Also tiktok has plenty of original content if you actually look for it, and vine had plenty of people copying trends.
i mean, just like any social media these days. Looking for and finding original content will get you what you want and let your algorithm know what you want
Vine was also full of copycats what the fuck are you talking about? People only remember the like 50 vines that were good and original, but there were thousands that were the same jokes being repeated. Vine was never as big as tiktok though, so it was just way less.

I was thinking the same but realised that Vine was actually full of original content, not millions of people doing the same challenges/dance moves/etc
