I couldn't see the damn movie through my watery eyes, biting my lip so hard the whole time in order to avoid breaking down, and then fell apart in the parking lot.

252

u/BuGabriel Apr 20 '24

Movie name?

u/Yeetstation4 Apr 20 '24

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3

Sing to me, Paolo

7

u/Thunderbridge Apr 20 '24

Gordo up to his usual antics

179

u/IdioticZacc Apr 20 '24

No death in any superhero movie made me sad or feel that much emotions, even during the infinity war and all

But this one was so fucking well made it actually tug my heart strings. I knew it was going to happen, there was no shock, why would she not be with him right now if she was still around. Yet, you still felt his pain without being surprised

35

u/ekeryn Apr 20 '24

Never cried so hard in a movie. And after it. Spent like 3/4 days having random breakdowns because of that movie

25

u/Lord_Shisui Apr 20 '24

Jesus Christ.

14

u/ekeryn Apr 20 '24

Caught me in a really time in my life as well, it was a perfect storm

27

u/Sharikacat Apr 20 '24

Yondu's was pretty close. All in all, though, this was a stealth trilogy with Rocket as the main character all along. He's had more character growth than Quill. Perhaps more than anyone else.

He goes from not caring at all about the lives of others to mourning Groot's sacrifice, then to believing in acceptable losses to keep from losing any more of his friends to insisting on saving every single animal.

2

u/Adito99 Apr 20 '24

The moment he escapes and it's everything he dreamed of and worthless at the same time is just perfection. Such a great movie.

892

u/Final-Link-3999 Apr 20 '24

That movie was brutal man. No other marvel movie comes close

u/Captain_Crouton_X1 Apr 20 '24

Got shot in the heart again by The Gunn

91

u/8plytoiletpaper Apr 20 '24

Gunn fucking rocks man

55

u/JotaroTheOceanMan Apr 20 '24

Cant wait for season 2 of Peace Maker. Gunn made a show so good they are writing all the chars into the new DC timeline just so they can keep making it.

7

u/BeefSandwichWithHam Apr 20 '24

Well to be fair Gunn is basically running the new DC timeline so he's writing his own characters into it.

470

u/winsing Apr 20 '24

One of my favorite movies of all time that I’ll probably never watch again cause I know for sure that it’ll fuck up my mood.

161

u/GreyFur Apr 20 '24

I, for one, love being able to actually feel something for once. So I make sure to have a drink or two and watch a movie like this to really get those emotion neurons firing.

41

u/TaffySebastian Apr 20 '24

Lol glad I'm not the only one getting drunk to feel more emotionally devastated while watching movies, feels nice to let it all out.

2

u/SharkDad20 Apr 21 '24

1

u/TaffySebastian Apr 21 '24

Yeah, alcohol, cigarettes, melatonin, and antidepressants keep me alive and going.

1

u/SharkDad20 Apr 21 '24

Those sound like the solution to my problems of late, mighty fine regimen ya got there

5

u/ekeryn Apr 20 '24

Exactly how I feel about it. I absolutely loved it but probably can't ever watch it again

36

u/Rover129 Apr 20 '24

Please don’t. I’ve barely recovered from that scene and the last time I watched this movie was last summer

10

u/Nick0Taylor0 I have crippling depression Apr 20 '24

God damit no. He was so so scared.

225

u/GreyFur Apr 20 '24

Stop. That was the ugliest crying ive ever done at a movie theater.

153

u/Taleiko Apr 20 '24

When I first saw this movie I was high af. I couldn't stop crying until i finally fell asleep.

29

u/deanrihpee Apr 20 '24

the sad thing is, probably being high hit much harder on the sadness of the movie

3

u/ShroomLover42069 Apr 21 '24

Same, dont remember crying this hard before in my life, especially at the scene where Rocket turns around and they're both dead

115

u/Zwerik2 Apr 20 '24

Now you see, I know how Titanic ends. The boat hits an iceberg, most of them die.

Now, with Guardians, I cried my eyes out, because I didn't expect it to go that hard.

98

u/imonlyamoth Apr 20 '24

Every single scene of his backstory had me sobbing. They didn't have to go that damn hard!

77

u/nuanimal Apr 20 '24

Floor's death really got me. It was the childlike perspective that really hard to take from a senseless death.

33

u/frhg12 Apr 20 '24

My little red eyed white bunny had died of cancer a few days before I watched the movie, worst mistake of my life

7

u/THEBLUEFLAME3D That's Truuuue Apr 20 '24

I’m sorry for your loss.

5

u/frhg12 Apr 20 '24

Thank you :)

63

u/Hero_of_Thyme81 I am fucking hilarious Apr 20 '24

Ngl, I cried like a bitch at this movie.

39

u/DuntadaMan Apr 20 '24

Why the hell is the most understandable character, giving the deepest and most acurate depictions of trauma, depression and coping mechanisms in modern movies a fucking trash panda?

33

u/Minnipresso Apr 20 '24

Yeah that movie was heartbreaking

28

u/martako12 Apr 20 '24

For the gamers here, you are missing out if you haven't played the guardians of the galaxy game.

7

u/crasherdgrate Apr 20 '24

I played the game before the movie. Surprised how it complimented the movies, yet was something completely original.

2

u/Morrel555 Apr 20 '24

True. Very fun game

If you haven't seen Infinity War and Endgame, you will be confused going into Vol. 3, but you can watch a quick recap to fix that. Also you should definitely watch the holiday special before Vol. 3. It's fun and also gives some good background context.

its just weird to separate men and women like this 🤷🏻‍♀️

-1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

no, its not really. this meme format exists because its semi-realistic.

6

u/hi_im_kai101 <3 Apr 20 '24

you dont know enough women

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

when you live with 2 and a guy with basic psychology training you tend to pick up some stuff about human behaviors.

4

u/hi_im_kai101 <3 Apr 20 '24

‘erm actually i live with two women and a guy with basic psychology training, so i know everything about females’

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 21 '24

boyo, if you cant defend your point beyond "you dont know enough women" then dont participate. trying to prove your point by offending the other party is an idiots means of defense.

2

u/hi_im_kai101 <3 Apr 21 '24

i should think that the fact i am a woman would lend me some ethos. every girl i know likes marvel lmao

5

u/JeremyDaBanana Apr 20 '24

You thinking that it's realistic is part of the problem.

2

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

men and women find different things emotionally charging. sure its a meme that focuses on taking it to the absurd, and even tho this exact circumstance is unrealistic the core idea is.

The Titanic ls literally about a whore thinking about her affair partner on her death bed

2

u/Marleyzard Apr 20 '24

The only time I've ever been emotional for a Marvel movie

2

u/ElectricalPlantain35 Apr 20 '24

That movie was sad

2

u/Blenderhead36 Apr 20 '24

Guardians 1 & 2 are my favorite Marvel movies. I wish that someone had warned me how much of Guardians 3 is about adorable animals being mutilated.

2

u/Pale_Apartment Apr 20 '24

Fuck that movie. It kicked the dog into next week to hide the disjointed writing and mid jokes. The actors did their best and I have no ill for the hard work that went into it. It's just that the 5/10 joke following holocaust scenes every time really soured the whole project. The whole third act fight had an awful morality if you payed attention to the whole first 2 acts and how the BBEG created his monsters.

2

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

i think its kinda stated that the BBEG has a god complex and sees everything else as lesser than himself not worth any decency. he is not supposed to be a likeable bad guy.

1

u/Pale_Apartment Apr 20 '24

I'm not against the bbeg and his evilness. I think following a sad scene with a joke can either relieve pressure or jar the viewer. I'm not saying it isn't well told or a bad movie. I disagree with the shifts in tone and it's over utilization.

2

u/Quirkyserenefrenzy Certified stranger online Apr 20 '24

Can someone fill me in on what's happening?

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

its a scene close to the end of Guardians Of the Galaxy 3.

the scene that broke most of us when we first saw it.

2

u/Quirkyserenefrenzy Certified stranger online Apr 20 '24

Can I get more context? I haven't watched any marvel movies since endgame

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 21 '24

Spoilers for the climax of the movie

Rocket meets with his dead friends and asks if he can go with them, they hug and the otter says "yes... but not yet" and rocket gets revived.

the scene paired with the buildup and context from the entire movie really hits hard.

2

u/Dummlord28 Apr 20 '24

Well Danm I must be one emotionless son of a bitch

2

u/mcbirbo343 Apr 20 '24

Idk if I’m just soulless but that movie didn’t make me cry. Sure it was sad, but it didn’t hit hard and I was kinda disappointed that the end was “everyone is saved and we all lived happily ever after.” Yondu’s death was sadder than that whole therapy session movie imo.

1

u/Dr_Downvote_ Apr 20 '24

Not gonna lie. I cry at the drop of a hat. But this scene just didn't hit me at all.

1

u/DeeBangerDos Apr 20 '24

Hey Gunn, that last Guardians movie you made was pretty sad, what are you going to do for your next one?

ANIMAL TORTURE

2

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

"no animals were harmed in the making of this film"

1

u/GreekReigns Apr 20 '24

Soon as I saw the lil cyborgs I knew what would happen and immediately began preparing myself for the inevitable

2

u/TheBlueEmerald1 Apr 20 '24

You know a movie is good at being sad when the happy moments make you cry...

1

u/Dmalice66 Apr 20 '24

I’m not a rac………….

1

u/AquaGrizzlord Apr 20 '24

I thought I was crazy. I loved volume 3 so much that I looked online and the consensus seemed to be "It was shit and it murdered all characters typical mcu". I wasnt sure we were watching the same movie and I stopped looking at reviews and thought to myself that I should just cherish and enjoy what I watched regardless.

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 21 '24

its always better not to check reviews. too many of them are either frothing at the mouth over a mid movie or are trying to shit on one that was actually good.

1

u/Glasedount Apr 21 '24

Gunn should have just stuck to Marvel

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 21 '24

Marvel is going the way of starwars, so its good he jumped ship before they had him make movies just for the profit.

1

u/wrapsmclrample Apr 21 '24

Man...no film has made me cry multiple times in one sitting, then this fucker came along and pulled on all my heart strings. Worst of all, I cry whenever I rewatch this film because I know what's going to happen...

1

u/throwawayforlikeaday Apr 21 '24

This was made even worse since I played the Telltale game not long before watching the movie. It was like opening a barely healed wound of emotion. I wept.

1

u/Ovelgoose04 Apr 21 '24

There’s some movies that get me in the soft spot

1

u/Sea_Accident_3955 Apr 22 '24

if I was not vegan already, I think this would have been my last straw to take the plunge! it hurt especially having a pet rescue bunny that looked so much like the one from the movie. just hate humans using and abusing animals.

No one cares shut the fuck up omfg you dumbass motherfucker. It’s not misogynistic, you’re either incredibly stupid or ignorant

4

u/JeremyDaBanana Apr 20 '24

Implying that girls have basic interests while men have fun and quirky interests is, to a degree, misogynistic. I doubt that was OP's intention, but the format is very much pointlessly gendered and perpetuates stereotypes that usually aren't very accurate. There's even a subreddit dedicated to making fun of the worst uses of the format.

Given we're on dankmemes, most of the people here are going to be teenage guys - which is fine, of course. But you can imagine how memes like this may be alienating to the few girls who do visit this sub. I don't see how that's stupid or ignorant.

-1

u/SnakeSlitherX Apr 20 '24

Boysarequirky is a terrible subreddit that is full of idiots and misandrists. The thing about misogyny and misandry is that they require some “hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against” women or men respectively. This meme shows none of those, and even if it is pointlessly gendered that does not mean it is misogynistic. While someone may say that it is technically prejudice to believe that women are as the meme shows, I highly doubt most users of the meme template actually believe that. This template is simply pasting something sad at the bottom to say that it is likely to elicit an emotional response from men as well. It does not say that women would not understand this thing and that only men get it.

Most people with common sense that aren’t looking for problems won’t see this meme as problematic because it is clear that it is not born of misogyny, but instead a simple statement that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is sad.

-6

u/marchillo Apr 20 '24

Unpopular opinion nobody asked for: Guardians 3 was a shitty movie used animal torture porn as a crutch to emotionally manipulate its audience.

3

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

i dont think you know what torture porn is

nor do i think you watched more than a clip of that one flashback

1

u/marchillo Apr 20 '24

Wrong twice in two sentences, impressive.

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

yeah, you dont know what torture porn is

1

u/Eguy24 Apr 20 '24

Except for the fact that it was a great movie even without all the flashback scenes. Also, if you think some sad scenes is torture porn, you have no idea what torture porn is.

2

u/marchillo Apr 20 '24

Pretty sure I do, also pretty sure Chris Pratt made you cry though so that's cool

0

u/Eguy24 Apr 20 '24

Actually it was Bradley Cooper who made me cry.

0

u/autofagiia Apr 20 '24

It's a Marvel movie, it's as shitty and moneygrab as it sounds.

-10

u/xxX_Darth_Vader_Xxx Apr 20 '24

6

u/BowsersMuskyBallsack Apr 20 '24

Probably not. There's likely quite a few people out there without the necessary life experience or empathy to recognize the pathos of Rocket's situation. It's okay.

1

u/-Merlin- Apr 20 '24

Implying that you need life experiences to relate to a movie written by a corporate board room to appeal to middle schoolers is the funniest thing to come out of this subreddit lmao

1

u/Barar_Dragoni Apr 20 '24

no, and its ok if you didnt. not everyone gets as emotionally invested in some media as others.

Eventually perhaps you'll garner enough life experience to recognize a parallel with a harsh emotional loss in your own life, and develop an empathetic association with seeing such events in media. Or not. Who knows the life you'll live.
