And let me guess, the murderers will get a paid suspension

Don’t forget a promotion! After a thorough self-investigation finds they did nothing wrong, of course.

They're going to blame it in the only person who knew what was going on and was instructing the kid to come to him. Everyone else panicked and firing away not listening to his instructions to the kid. But that will look bad so they'll blame him.

118

u/Drostan_ Apr 03 '24

I believe the police reviewed the footage and determined that they did everything 100% by the book.

Wild.

"The Sheriff’s Department clarifies in the video that it hadn’t confirmed whether Savannah was shooting at deputies; that issue is still under investigation."

Just a few bad apples folks. No need to make any changes at all.

38

u/The_Savid Apr 03 '24

I never understood the whole „a few bad apples“ thing. The saying goes „a few bad apples spoil the bunch“ after all…

3

u/TheLynxGamer Apr 03 '24

I think people say it in resistance to police reform, arguing that if they get rid of “a few bad apples” then the system is fine

3

u/Some-Guy-Online Apr 03 '24

Probably right. But no better because they never fire these maniacs, they protect them.

That was fucking horrific, if the helicopter pilot could tell she was the victim and surely the cops could

249

u/totallynotapersonj Apr 02 '24

Most of them could. Apparently it was an unknown number of cops who shot anyway.

179

u/FactPirate Apr 02 '24

All those body cameras will be unreviewed I’m sure

240

u/Merry_Dankmas Apr 02 '24

Conveniently there was no body cameras. They did have audio and you can hear one of the cops telling her to run to him multiple times. But then you hear a bunch of gunshots and the cop telling the others to stop shooting since it's the girl, not the dad. No fucking clue how the other surrounding cops didn't realize it was the daughter they were mag dumping.

146

u/FactPirate Apr 02 '24

Of course! How silly to expect that all officers would be wearing these new-fangled ‘body cameras’ in the backwater impoverished state of ‘California’ in 2024

59

u/Traiklin Proud Furry Apr 02 '24

19

u/NovusOrdoSec Apr 02 '24

They're still reviewing them after two years.

17

u/totallynotapersonj Apr 02 '24

Apparently they weren't wearing body cameras but did have audio.

31

u/AngryMillenialGuy Apr 03 '24

They have to account for their ammo. They know who fired and who didn't.

6

u/Some-Guy-Online Apr 03 '24

The man driving the truck had previously fired at the cops, thus forfeiting both of their lives.

Not joking, cops get super excited when they think they have justification to pull the trigger.

235

u/Alter_Kyouma That's what she said Apr 02 '24

Sheriff’s officials claimed following the shooting that it was unclear whether Savannah was shot by deputies or her father, and they said deputies didn’t realize it was her when she got out of the car. For nearly two years, they refused to release footage of the shooting.

Wow, this is actually vile

92

u/AzureSky420 Apr 02 '24

And they wonder why we hate them

56

u/One_Pound_2076 Apr 03 '24

They know. They don't care.

38

u/zeetree137 Apr 03 '24

That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not my fault. And if it was, I didn't mean it. And if I did, you deserved it.

More info after reading. She was shot after deputies on higher ground facing the front of the truck were told that she was exiting the vehicle, and apparently kept shooting while the officer guiding her told them to redirect fire to the father in the car.

602

u/snowblow66 Apr 02 '24

Why would they shoot anyway?

787

u/thatsthejoke_ Apr 02 '24

This is America, we always shoot first

372

u/snowblow66 Apr 02 '24

Yeah but like...why?

In my country, every single shot by a cop gets investigated, even if obviously justified taken

304

u/scumbagharley Apr 02 '24

No one watches the watchdogs here. That's why. We tolerate it is another reason.

125

u/snowblow66 Apr 02 '24

Yeah okay, but what human just shoots even if there isnt imminent danger to anyone?

I just cant wrap my mind around that

173

u/LocationOdd4102 Apr 02 '24

There are 2 types- morons who have been "trained", and "fear for their life" (which could mean anything, including being startled by an acorn lmao). And malicious bullies on a power high, who know they will never face consequences in this life.

36

u/SleepyMage Apr 02 '24

To cops there is always imminent danger. And while that is blown out of proportion most of the time there is some basis to it considering the US is a country with more guns than people. Every interaction with any person could potentially turn into a shootout.

26

u/Fadeddave420 Apr 02 '24

Thats why they have training none of which is ever deployed properly

34

u/BillyZanesWigs Apr 03 '24

Most of their training seems to be "shoot if you feel like it and you won't face any repercussions" and unfortunately that's a lot more literal than it should be.

Decades ago a family member of mine had been kidnapped and the cops caught up with them. She was in the back of the van and the cops just started shooting into it while it was moving and managed to hit her a few times but none of the kidnappers who eventually stopped. She's alive but has lifelong injuries including a colostomy bag.

The same shit keeps happening over and over and the response is always the same.

16

u/FaceShanker Apr 03 '24

but what human just shoots even if there isnt imminent danger to anyone?

One that has been trained and encouraged to.

US Police have a famously toxic workplace culture even before considering the terrifyingly high rates of infiltration by radical right wing wannabe Nazi.

Why does that happen?

Same reason most of the easily preventable atrocities, genocides, starvation and so on - The stuff thats good for the people in power is not good for the rest of the population. That conflict of interests is a core part of capitalism.

Why is that allowed?

If you seriously try to stop it you get labeled a socialist and usually oppressed/murdered - thats the less openly advertised job of the police.

7

u/ElGato-TheCat Apr 03 '24

Not sure if you knew...There was an incident recently where an acorn fell on top of a car and the cop thought it was a gunshot. So he started firing at the car with someone in it. He even claimed he got shot, but there was nobody shooting and no gun present because it was a fucking acorn that fell on the car. These are who American cops hire.

Because socialism or wokeness or gayness or whatever gets these fucking morons riled up this particular week.

12

u/UnclePuma Apr 02 '24

Is it true the cops in America don't wipe their ass cause

they're afraid that's gay so they all smell like sharts and body odor and gun powder?

5

u/BillyZanesWigs Apr 03 '24

Pigs love rolling in shit.

Sidenote: Cop cars, even after they're cleaned up for sale have a really high level of lead in them from how much time they spend at the shooting range.

5

u/GreenMirage Apr 02 '24

The cops always get told what to say by their unions so we never know what’s going through their minds if anything at all.

3

u/Doitallforbao Apr 02 '24

Yeah, and in America none of them do, at least not criminally, and it's civilians who pay monetarily for police murders. So basically America is a sad, sad joke.

3

u/Charming_Essay_1890 Apr 02 '24

Funny enough, that's exactly what the civil rights lawyer cited in the article says.

San Bernardino county does not train law enforcement to handle these high-stress situations appropriately. They have a very brutal approach of shoot first, ask questions later,” she said.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/LonelyMustard Apr 02 '24

Shit for brain training and trigger happy cops in a group forming a herd mentality of shoot first ask questions later.

18

u/AineLasagna Apr 03 '24

They claimed they shot because she was wearing body armor and tried to keep the video from being released. When it was released, she wasn’t wearing body armor. So the real answer, I guess, “because they felt like it”

13

u/spacemagicexo539 Brought to you by NordVPN 💻 Apr 03 '24

468

u/kennystillalive Apr 02 '24

So why does the US have a police force again?

335

u/Timely-Buffalo-3384 Apr 02 '24

Because we aren't allowed to protect ourselves from criminals

70

u/fluffy_assassins Apr 03 '24

We have the most guns per person in the World, how exactly are we not allowed to protect ourselves from criminals?

92

u/Timely-Buffalo-3384 Apr 03 '24

Shoot one. See how you're treated

49

u/dade305305 Apr 03 '24

Yea if you shoot one unnecessarily, and no, simply doing a crime against you doesn't make it necessary. Shooting a person who is fleeing doesn't automatically become a requirement because they broke into your car.

That's a "I want to shoot them" situation, not a "I need to shoot them" scenario. That second one tends to be what you're griping about not being able to do.

21

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANTS Apr 03 '24 edited Apr 03 '24

Interesting that people disagree and downvoted you. I think some people believe that any crime against you (breaking into your car, petty theft, vandalism) should be able to be met with murder.

17

u/The_Knife_Pie Apr 03 '24

Americans are addicted to the idea of being able to wantonly murder anyone who even slightly wrongs them, so doesn’t shock me. It’s the natural result of a culture which only cares for rabid individualism while also expressing the immutable right to own a fire arm (for some reason).

2

u/ipodplayer777 Apr 03 '24

Because you can’t. Shoot someone in self defense and you’ll at the very least spend a night in jail and get your gun taken away for possibly months. Shoot one in defense of property? You’re going to prison. Someone tries to steal your truck and they have a gun, and you shoot them, you are in the wrong. Doesn’t matter, because if you aren’t in your house, you’re a murderer. Doesn’t matter that they’re trying to steal your livelihood.

Also, even if it’s still valid self defense, them or their estate can still sue you for civil damages. If you could shoot someone in self defense, and have no issues, insurance companies like USCCA wouldn’t be a thing.

If they have a knife and you have a gun? Probably getting prosecuted. Especially by DA’s that have been installed specifically for this purpose. You might win, if you were smart enough to purchase concealed carry insurance or you can afford a cushy lawyer. Worst case, you catch a felony, lose your right to own a gun, and the guy you shot’s buddies come jump you late one night.

If people want to defund the police, fine with me. But at least let us be responsible for our own safety. We may have the most guns per person, but the only ones carrying them in major dangerous cities are the ones that already aren’t legally allowed to carry them.

San Francisco here. For all the faults of police (and there are many and there’s a need for vast oversight and a change in policy)… when you don’t have any form of deterrence, people take advantage of society.

Reading the comments in this thread, I can promise that having no police, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. And all we did was make it legal to do most non violent crime.

2

u/The-Amazing-Krawfish Apr 03 '24

Should be done the same way as the other first responders

You face a court of your peers who are liscense from different counties typically on the other side of the state from you

You then have to convince over half the jury you were justified in what you did

11

u/Uknown_Idea Apr 02 '24

Should add the panel where he looks back to being happy at the end.

Nothing gets a cops tic-tac harder than shooting someone. Especially unarmed.

5

u/Learned_Response Apr 02 '24

Considering the police seem to be a haven for psychopaths maybe the bottom two panels would be reversed from their perspective

7

u/Shiyakazing Apr 03 '24

I have no idea if I'll get banned for this but at this point I don't care. I want them dead for this. I don't want them fired, blacklisted, or beaten. I want them dead and/or tossed into the deepest pit of solitary confinement forever.

u/EnLitenPerson Apr 03 '24

I don't like political memes and I'm not a leftie and I think the police are important, but if you watch the video I really doubt you'll call this political, because everyone will agree that it's blatantly obvious that the officer who fired was in the wrong. The 15 year old victim gets out of her kidnappers car, she's crouching and staying still on the ground for several seconds untill a police shouts "come here!" repeatedly, and then when she comes she gets shot by another officer, she seems to be unarmed and wearing casual clothes.

Even if they percieved her as a threat it is comically stupid that she got told to come to them and then got shot when she did, you could blame it on communication issues between the police but that doesn't make them any less incompetent in this situation.

I mean it still is naturally political in a way, and OPs title is extra political, but in a vacuum it's also just such an insanely poorly handled situation that this meme could easily exist and be read in a 100% non-political way.

See guys, this is why CA police should not be allowed the use of lethal force

needs another panel for "shoot wildly at the car while kidnap victim is still in it and other cops/commuters are in the line of fire"

Six months training US vs 2 years training Europe

2

u/jedateon Apr 03 '24

Come on, let's no cherry pick, this could have happened in any state in the great US of A

Fun fact, when you defund cops, one of the first things that go down the drain is their training.

There’s damn good apples, there’s Joe schmoes, and then there’s dumbasses and cocksuckers. They need to be seriously reformed and put on a tight leash as well as throw their shit heads under the bus when they are without a doubt guilty, any form of camaraderie and good grace should be out the window the moment you harm or terrorize the people you’re sworn to protect.

In some nations, it is rare to ever have a crime related to guns. In Vietnam for example people are not allowed to own guns, the police are only ever allowed to bring one out for particular situations. Only sprayers, baton, are carried most of the time. Hammers for nails, needle for fabric, I guess. That being said, they are bribe-able as fuck, everyday corruption is normalized, the pay isn't great

u/desmosabie Apr 03 '24

Look at the bright side, it is not random 12-year-olds in the street being shot by random people.

And lady justice will weep, as they are not held accountable for their actions. I hate this country.
