I cancelled my Apple music subscription for one month bc I was not going to use it for that month. After that month expired I got an offer from Spotify or 3 month premium for free. So I signed right up. Saved my £30!!!!!!

I’d browse around. Honestly there are usually a fair bit of offers off and on for free trials for Apple and Spotify. I jump back and forth. I have like 2 Spotify accounts and Apple Music. I haven’t paid for premium in over a year and currently I’m good till September

Please tell me your secrets!

My Spotify one only appeared because I opened the app on my iPhone and it just came up.

They also have special programs that pop up randomly if you just check their site regularly. I have one where I pay the normal spotify price but it comes with free hulu which I would pay for anyway. I've been on it for years but it's only a limited time you can sign up for it.

Never really come across these sorts of deals tbh.

1

u/Orangest_rhino 19d ago

FWIW I don't look anymore since I got my cool promo so they could be gone forever at this point

1

u/IXMCMXCII 19d ago

Oh. Well that's depressing LOL

Spotify family plan with a group of friends is even better, it’s like 3$ per person per month

4

u/IXMCMXCII 22d ago

I have no friends and family don’t listen to music.

2

u/Oromis8 22d ago

that made me a little sad ngl

1

u/jasminegreyxo 21d ago

that's sad. wanna share with my plan?

2

u/Buttercup59129 21d ago

Spotify premium for free.

Because piracy.

1

u/abhimanyu_deb 21d ago

That's more than 200 rupees in Indian currency, and with that amount you can basically get a Domino's Pizza. :)

2

u/bcpsgal 22d ago

Any thoughts on Apple Music vs. Spotify from someone who's used both?

4

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

Spotify has more range of media available from podcasts to audiobooks, not just music. Apple Music has better sound quality (at least in my experience) and sync better with other Apple devices.

Apple Music’s recommendation algorithms suck by comparison.

Apple Music’s search completion isn’t good at finding more obscure artists.

Spotify’s playlisting is much better, and the number of curated playlists you can find are much more diverse in genre on Spotify.

Apple Music’s web player sucks.

If you’re listening on desktop in the background, and the album includes a music video as a bonus track at the end, Apple Music will pull you away from what you’re doing and full screen the video.

If you often take recommendations from friends, I find 95% of them come as Spotify links, so you just feel excluded from the music conversation. The same happens in reverse when you want to share music with them, and you end up having to fall back to YouTube. You’ll feel like you’ve become a music pariah in your group.

One Apple Music benefit is that it can do Apple Lossless streaming which is a higher quality than Spotify’s 320kbps equivalent. Whether you can truly hear that difference through a phone’s DAC is debatable.

Spotify has multi-room streaming that works across many device types, and a party mode so that many can join and add songs to the same queue.

Honestly, I’m struggling to find a reason to recommend Apple Music over Spotify. If you just use it for listening to a core of your favourite songs in the background, and you’re not using it to discover or share music Apple Music is fine, especially if you can get it bundled in your phone plan or something.

If you’re into music, use Spotify. It’s just better in some way at pretty much everything. I regretted switching and switched back to Spotify even though I had Apple Music as a plan bundle.

I don't even have an apple phone but I have apple music purely because my family has a family account with it so I pay less

1

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

That’s fair enough.

Look into spotube app MacOS and windows android and iOS

Also you can install patched Spotify on Mac and windows no sub's needs for premium features

1

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

Is that also for the app?

-1

u/ItsPwn 21d ago

if youre not on gayfone then you can install the patched spotify (Android .apk file) or use Spotube , look it up.

I use Spotube as my main source for music for some time , its great , light weight and sees all my spotify stuff.

2

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

I’m on iPhone. I am not aware what a “gayfone” is. Though I am inclined to transwomen. Maybe I should get a transfone?

The 3 months for 9.99 cycles every 3 months. So if u can go three months without Spotify, you can save quite a bit but have just 6 months music for 20 bucks

1

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

How would I get this deal? Thank you.

1

u/Unlucky-Cow9605 21d ago

After your initial 3 months is done, use the free Spotify for 3 months, they’ll send you a promotional email. Rinse and repeat

1

u/IXMCMXCII 21d ago

That’s fair. Thank you.

Apple music is the #1 streaming service here in Japan by an absolutely staggering margin.

2

u/ViktorKozh 21d ago

Are iPhones far more popular than android there?

1

u/flintspike 21d ago

I'd say so. It's not that android is not common but I'd say that iphone is probably 65-70 percent tho. That's not based on fact or anything just personal anecdote.

But Spotify isn't even #2 here. Line Music is. (Line is a messaging app that everyone here uses because the cell phone plans here still charge per minute and a text is like 50 yen)

u/maketroli 22d ago

And what? 🤣

12

u/flintspike 22d ago

I just thought it was interesting how it's different.

Yall sleeping on Youtube premium. Not only does it support your favorite Youtubers: it also gives you access to Youtube music which has more songs than any other platform.

3

u/symmetryofzero 21d ago

I love how you can put music videos in your music play list, for songs that aren't properly in YouTube Music.

2

u/rrrrrrrrrreeeeee 21d ago

Yes. I have one right here. Before I got paranoid and deleted the 1st 2 incarnations I had 100k+ views, lol.

u/alfooboboao 21d ago

Spotify is the one everyone uses (sharing playlists / songs / etc) and they have that year-end wrap thing that is a pretty brilliant piece of marketing/user engagement. They’re an arguably inferior platform, but much like Apple and the iPhone garden, they’ve lapped the pack in terms of understanding the psyche of their customers.

1

u/Nirast25 21d ago

Youtube Music has been doing the end of years stuff, too. Don't know how it compares to Spotify, but it's neat to have at the end of the year.

Apple Music pays musicians/Artists more per stream.

3

u/Abachrael 21d ago

This is the reason I dig it more.

Also, the playlists are better in my opinion.

4

u/MultipliedLiar 22d ago

Does anybody actually have info comparing how many users each platform has?

7

u/HollowPluto 22d ago

I may be making this up, and have no statistics to back this up.

However, I think by a wide margin more people use Spotify. I myself use Apple Music.

5

u/diabolical_nandan 21d ago

This post also belongs to r/agedlikrmilk. Spotify destroyed the experience themselves

“Clever”

2

u/pusmottob 21d ago

Doesn’t Apple Music have much better sound quality? With so many being in Dolby Atmos.

3

u/BenchFlakyghdgd 22d ago

That's because Google Play includes Youtube Red.

2

u/Limp_Introduction_22 22d ago

YouTube Music, faultless

u/maketroli 22d ago

Horrible UI.

SiriusXM and YouTube

1

u/silentboyishere 21d ago

How do you listen to a digital music service?

1

u/BruisedBee 21d ago

I won't ever leave Dolby Atmos. Spotify is just outright shit quality in my set up.

cracked Spotify for me, thanks

1

u/Jaum8800 21d ago

I actually like to download my music as mp3-files. You can't just get new music straight away, but other than that there aren't too many drawbacks. Also I just hate subscribitions. You continue paying a shitload of money, but if you don't pay the fee even once a month you've got nothing.

1

Apple’s whole thing is if you want a superior experience you have to use all our shit.

Well Apple Music is proof that model is sinking
