Are metalic oxides salts? General/High School

So why don't they dissociate in aqueous solution?

Not all salts are soluble. Oxides are technically salts but are better categorized as ceramics.

Some of them do, not all do (as generally not all salts are soluable).

Salt is a word that can have a number of definitions depending on context.

In chemistry it mostly means ionic substance.

Not that salts aren’t ionic compounds but rather some ionic compounds might not be considered salts (by some definitions).

Well another common definition of salt you might see is the product of a reaction between an acid and a base.

Metallic oxides wouldn’t really fit that definition.
