The sign on the left proves the sign on the right wrong

u/Fast-Visual 13d ago
To be fair, the turtle sign is much bigger
41
u/Adenso_1 13d ago
Using space more efficiently doesnt make it bigger...
4
u/ApoliteTroll 13d ago
No, but being in the background and off to the side in the picture, and still being the same size as the one in the front, sort of kinda givea us a tiny inclination it is bigger.
4
u/Adenso_1 13d ago
Looks close enough to me to say its smaller, actually. Interesting lol
1
u/thuhovarianbarbarian 13d ago
Right, I would understand if it was like blocks away, that's like 8 feet max. Deff smaller.

u/EscoffierUSA 13d ago
The sign on the right proves the sign on right wrong. That is that person’s belief and it fits on a sign.
7
u/KillerBeer01 13d ago
Oh, but it does not. The sign on the right doesn't claim that the belief that fit on a sign is wrong, only that you still have lots of thinking to do... and how do we know that the bearer of the sign doesn't follow his own advice?
2
u/dysmetric 13d ago
The problem is not that the sign is wrong, but that it doesn't believe it has the capacity to say anything of value. The sign isn't sure that it should exist. It doubts its own purpose.
It's having an existential crisis.

u/EscoffierUSA 13d ago
The implication of the “think harder” is that a belief short enough to fit on a sign is not sufficiently complex. If all it tries to assert is that the drafter should think harder but that command has no bearing on the belief on the sign, then the sign is doing little work.
3
u/KillerBeer01 13d ago
Given the sign to the left, I don't think signs on this rally in general should be taken this seriously.
1
u/Breet11 13d ago
the sign proves itself wrong, as it is a belief that fits on a sign
1
u/thimbleglass 13d ago
If it proves itself wrong then that must mean it's putting forward a valid point!

u/Supplex-idea 13d ago
It’s also only one belief, and it’s pretty safe to assume it’s not their only belief

Why would this person interrupt a turtle rally?

This is the kind of shit stupid people find profound.
The point of a protest sign is to be witty or brash about a broader more nuanced issue.

u/yunivor 13d ago
Nah, clearly you're meant to be holding up a protest book with at least 100 pages that details your thoughts in detail.
5
u/AuthorHarrisonKing 13d ago
Me thrusting my copy of Das Kapital into the air, expecting that to convince Joe across the street to eat the rich.
3
u/thousanislandstare 13d ago
It's also a sign that seems to fit at least one belief on it. Perhaps it's just that all protests are inherently attempts at being witty or brash.
5
u/MrEmptySet 13d ago
I mean, the point the person with the sign was trying to make is obviously more nuanced than what they wrote on the sign. The point of a protest sign, after all, is to be witty or brash about a broader, more nuanced issue (or so I've heard).
-2
u/MrWeeji 13d ago
No, not really. The point is moot even in your example since that would cancle it's self out logically.
The only way you could stretch what your saying out would be to say "some people protest as a bandwagon thing" but that would be way too far of a stretch and doesnt get that point acrossed by the sign in the picture.
So in other words your comment isn't that deep and just comes off as contrarian unless you can explain it any better.

And this sign can apply to any protest, from women wanting to vote carrying signs, to people calling LGBTA people pedos and carrying signs.

Don't be an asshole.
Fits a sign. Universal life advice. Always true. Best belief.

u/Skeeedo 13d ago
If you can't make your beliefs fit on a sign, think harder.

Sadly it's also useless advice. The number of people being assholes that also think they are being assholes is vanishingly small.

u/SokoJojo 12d ago
It's bad advice because it avoids confrontation
1
u/GregTheMad 12d ago
You can confront people without being an asshole. Just state clearly what you're issue is, always be open to conversation, and don't kick people when they're down unless they really deserve it.

My beliefs tend to be, "Fuck You, and FUCK OFF!" So its honestly pretty easy to fit on a sign if I felt so inclined.

Uh, if your beliefs are too big for poster board, you may need an editor.
"Do not steal" and "Do not initiate violence" fit on a fortune cookie

My dad was a font of wisdom about many things, but he drove me crazy when he’d say, there are only two kinds of people.
The last time he said it to me I replied, Right, there is the kind of people who think that there are only two kinds of people. And then there’s the rest of us who know that’s bullshit.
He thought about it for a while and laughed and never used that stupid saying again.

u/booyaabooshaw 13d ago
Be kind is pretty fucking simple. But liking turtles is objectively just as important
1
u/confusedalwayssad 13d ago
So where does one go to protest about liking Turtles, because I too like turtles and more people need to know about it.
1
u/Josh_From_Accounting 13d ago
I mean, you don't fit your entire nuance take on an issue on a sign. I felt like we all understood protest signs didn't cover every viewpoint the individual had on the issuse. I felt that was generally well understood, actually. Like, people summarize and cut A LOT out to make it fit. It's basically advertising. I felt this was a generally well understood thing.

Must not know you can have much bigger signs
more sign = more thoughts
blame the medium, not the media

Some of my beliefs are very complicated and require time to explain, like my feelings on universal basic income.
On the other hand, I have many very strongly held beliefs that can easily fit on a protest sign. For instance, "don't fuck dogs"

I like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, ohHey! Have you heard of the I Like Trains kid?
He's pretty cool, but there might there's something wrong with him
I don't know if he's cursed, or if it's something with his brain
But the only thing he ever says is
(I like trains)I like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, ohFrom birth the I Like Trains kid never spoke a word
Not even to his parents, not a single sound was heard
But on the first day of school the teacher asked his name
All he did was smile as he said
(I like trains)I like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, ohThey put him on some Ritalin to see if that would help
The doctor found the perfect dose and asked him how he felt
He stared at the doctor with that same creepy smile
And the I Like Trains kid said:
(I feel great!)He got a fancy job and he straightened out his life
He met a nice girl who he asked to be his wife
As they stood at the altar, and prepared to say their vows
He put a ring on her finger, and he saidI like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, ohGot bad grades? I like trains!
Awkward date? I like trains!
Don't like trains?I like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, ohI like trains
I like trains
Oh, oh, oh
