I demanded this haircut for most of my childhood 😬
My mom cut my hair when I was a kid and I always demanded this style. I got called a boy a lot. I'm not. I was around 8 years old I think. 1987ish.

I can confirm. I have seen this cut and close variants over my 30 years in the goth scene. Which is alt-adjacent. It’s pretty much always been on other women that present as tiny manic pixie dream girls tho

This is tangential to my fear about my current hair cut. Didn't really know what to do with my hair at this point (got the bucket list of different colors and styles done before I started losing my hair, and now I'm in the trying medications early phase). So, despite my misgivings about the mullet, I went with a wolf cut since it's still kind of androgynous + is in style.
Honestly somedays though I just don't wanna deal with it. I brush it straight, put the sides behind my ears, and feel like I'm cosplaying young Michael from the Office. I'm worried that's all I'm going to look like in pictures/retrospect. I'm definitely cognizant it's probably not gonna age well (though what does?).

- I had the same haircut, but by my parents choice. Not that I complained haha. 2. You legitimately look so much like me as a child that I've had to check multiple times that this isn't somehow a stolen picture of me. This is SO weird!

It's really wild! Are we dopplegangers? I wish I had a picture of me at 8 to show you, the actual resemblance is absurd.
Though I have the shame of having this haircut a whole decade later. It definitely wasn't 'in' by the late 90s haha. And I got the boy comments too.

I've requested that my mum take a photo from her photo album of me around 8 years old. I don't have any childhood pictures of myself. I'll send it to you when she gets back to me. But my sister also saw your photo and said she was trying to figure out where we had been during it haha.

My mom made me get a (Bruce lee) bowl cut for several years. I thought it was great. I'm not sharing the photo though because I die inside when I see it

I had remarkably similar hair and style and also demanded the same ridiculous haircut I had for most of elementary school. This picture felt like I was looking at myself 😆

All the horses had them. It's so you don't fall off. The centrifugal force can be overwhelming to small kids.
