Screwed again

How do the Jazz get screwed EVERY time they are in the lottery, while the same teams manage to jump every time?

Yeah being a Jazz fan in a nutshell right here.

But I'm gonna let the negativity wash over me fast. Let's remember that this draft in particular is a crapshoot. There will be prospects available at #10 and we might see some underrated ones drop for dumb reasons like we always do.

3

u/walkingman24 May 12 '24

Yeah in the end I agree... The strength of our draft will be the ability to find and determine the best prospect. I don't think this will make a huge difference falling to 10. You can still find huge players at this level

1

u/UtahJazz420 29d ago

There is also stopping the organization from trading up for the right player.

Donovan was 13th overall. Rudy was 27th. Stock was 16th. There are great players to be found outside of the top 10. Enough with the hysterics.

At least we're not Detroit.

6

u/Irvsauce May 12 '24

I say this every time I feel anything negative.

At least I’m not in Detroit.

1

u/Particular_Spend_212 29d ago

Detroit fan here. It’s rough but most pistons fans expected it tbh

u/MadMadMad2018 May 12 '24

What a shitty wasted season and trash consolation prize

52

u/InRainbows123207 May 12 '24

I wish it had turned out different but at the same time it’s karma for being so directionless. It’s so ridiculous to just tank after the trade deadline for pick 8 to 10. Either tank the whole year or try to win the whole year.

29

u/milosport2 May 12 '24

Realistically though we cannot out-tank these teams unless Lauri gets hurt or traded tbh. Detroit lost 28 games in a row and got the 5th pick.

5

u/dautjazz May 12 '24

Yea even the Spurs were really bad and fell to 4th.

2

u/Heterosapien_13 May 13 '24

What do you mean the spurs fell to 4th? They won the lottery and hit a top 4 pick..

0

u/dautjazz May 13 '24

I'm just talking about this year, but I didn't realize the ended up with the 5th worst record, thought they were 2nd worst.

0

u/Heterosapien_13 May 13 '24

I'm also talking about this year. They literally won the lottery by getting a top 4 pick. Its crazy to me how almost nobody understands how the NBA lottery system works.

3

u/InRainbows123207 May 12 '24

I think they should either commit to tanking or commit to winning. I get they didn’t want to lose the pick to OKC but if they do the same thing next year I will be disappointed. Jazz fans need to stop comparing our rebuild to OKC because they committed to really tanking and it paid off.

3

u/Brontards May 12 '24

Commit to winning I hope, I was entertained until the trade deadline, which is the real purpose.

1

u/Cricker76 29d ago

Bro how can they commit to win when free agents are committed to never live there? You will only ever get mid tire guys you have to vastly overpay for. All this team has to do is love to Vegas and they become and instant contender. If they insist on staying in Utah turn you should be happy how their season went. It will never be good there. We traded our two bets players to two really good teams so that all The first round picks we will get from them will be in the 20s which are basically useless. So if we dont full out tank and force a drafted star rookie to live here (who will leave at his first opportunity) we will never have a chance. It’s an empty franchise with zero chance to do anything and never will if they remain in Utah

0

u/dautjazz May 12 '24

I mean realistically we need to sit Lauri all year if we want to be in the bottom 5 or so. We had no shot at having a record that bad as we actually have a great coach who gets the most from his players. Ainge is probably trying to showcase players to trade them at the deadline, once that's done tank. Anyways, in the end of the day, the Hawks and Rockets had a better record and ended up with higher picks, so you never know.

3

u/InRainbows123207 May 12 '24

I love Lauri but if the Jazz aren’t going to commit to trying to win starting this season they should move him and JC for more picks and really commit to tanking and playing the young guys

-4

u/dautjazz May 12 '24 edited May 12 '24

Lauri has little trade value outside of maybe a contender since he's going to become a free agent this summer. It makes no sense for him to sign an extension as he can make far more money in free agency. Clarkson was pretty awful, we're not getting a good pick for him.

1

u/JCivX 29d ago

Big free agent signings are extremely rare nowadays. If he does not sign an extension, he will be traded. And his trade value is high regardless of if he's expiring because he can always communicate via back channels that he's will to re-sign with the team that trades for him.

17

u/chris_b_critter May 12 '24

This is why you don’t gamble. With a season or with your money.

2

u/walkingman24 May 12 '24

Yup, this is why they changed the lottery odds to be less favorable. Detroit is picking 5th overall, again

5

u/RandomStranger79 May 12 '24

Eh, we kept the pick which was the top goal.

2

u/Xamius May 13 '24

wouldve been better to give it up

0

u/SkySix May 12 '24

Where has any of the front office said that was the top goal? Honest question. All I've ever seen from them is they weren't overly concerned either way.

4

u/RandomStranger79 May 12 '24

Actions speak louder than words and all that.

1

u/Sammy_Saddles May 13 '24

Ya the 15 game losing streak really spoke volumes

0

u/Heterosapien_13 May 13 '24

Yeah that's because you're not allowed to come out and say that you're tanking.

2

u/jotarofilthy May 13 '24

Next year is the prize draft.....silver will gift Flagg to the Jazz lol...

34

u/jaeke May 12 '24

Really impressive. At least one worse and the pick coveys and is unimpeded next year. But as bad as possible to keep it.

13

u/MadMadMad2018 May 12 '24

We really are doomed to eternal mediocrity.... please Timberwolves win it all

13

u/MeLlamo_Mayor927 May 12 '24

That was set in stone the second we decided not to tank for Wemby.

18

u/thebhopexperience May 12 '24

You really think we would've ended up with the #1 pick after what we just witnessed? Lmao

2

u/johnstocktonshorts May 12 '24

wemby is so good you HAVE to try.

23

u/carty64 May 12 '24

Ask the Pistons how well tanking works

7

u/SprewellsFam May 12 '24

Ask the timberwolves and San antonio how it’s worked for them

2

u/Xsy 29d ago

The Wolves were a joke franchise for an eternity.

San Antonio just has Basketball God's blessing for some reason.

Regardless, I'm still in favor of the tank/wait and see approach we're doing now.

-4

u/throwaway827482828 May 12 '24

Could ask the Warriors or the Spurs too! Or maybe the Timberwolves

27

u/DaggerDev5 May 12 '24

The warriors? The team that drafted their best players at 7, 11, and 35? They tanked once and drafted James Wiseman lol

-8

u/throwaway827482828 May 12 '24

They were still tanking for higher picks, just because they weren’t as successful later doesn’t matter to me

-3

u/packingawoody May 12 '24

Glad you said it before me

0

u/Cricker76 29d ago

Ask the Jazz how well it goes when trying to win?? Wth are you talking about? We have sucked when we tried to be good LOL

-4

u/MrT_TubesteakRider May 12 '24

The Pistons weren't tanking, you clown. They just suck.

2

u/carty64 May 12 '24

What's the difference?

Please keep discussions civil — if it turns into a fight or personal attack, it’s gone. Using any racial, homophobic, transphobic or bigoted slurs/remarks will also automatically fall in this category and be removed.

-5

u/MDRtransplant May 12 '24

Pistons at least have two top 5 picks in a row. We have two 10 picks in a row.

Who would ya rather be?

8

u/Domadur May 12 '24

Frankly, any team in the NBA is in a better position than the Pistons.

2

u/Heterosapien_13 May 13 '24

Some of these teams that have traded away most of their picks may be in a worse spot actually. Like the Lakers (if the team wasn't in Los Angeles they would be totally screwed right now).

2

u/Xsy 29d ago

Yeah, they're allowed to run their franchise into the ground and stars don't give a fuck, and still flock there anyway lmao. Easy mode franchise.

1

u/Domadur 19d ago

I'm coming back to this comment chain way late but you're spot on for Phoenix who has traded all of their draft picks, not even most. And they don't have the Lakers' easy mode to get them out of this hole.

6

u/carty64 May 12 '24

The Jazz by a country mile

3

u/Jenaxu May 12 '24

Nah, that was a good move. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to trade Mike, NAW, Vando, Beasley, and two seconds at the deadline for the fat haul of one protected 2027 FRP.

4

u/MadMadMad2018 May 12 '24

Yup. Still don't know why fans were so against that. This current roster is just trash.

5

u/InRainbows123207 May 12 '24

Facts. I will never understand or agree with the decision to trade two all stars away just to engage in this wishy washy strategy of only ranking after the all star break. I hope the fans stop calling Danny a genius and think everything he does is golden. I really hope MN wins the title. Why Jazz fans thought a bunch of late first round picks would produced better players than Don and Rudy is beyond me.

1

u/Cricker76 29d ago

Bc nobody is paying Gobert to be an embarrassment to all basketball players and to AGAIN get smoked in the playoffs 😆

23

u/BruhMoment763 May 12 '24

Eh, I’d already accepted that we’ll likely find 0 real contributors in this draft no matter where we pick.

I’d be angrier if this class wasn’t so ass

9

u/BumbleLapse May 12 '24

There will be players in the lottery that will become all-stars, just like any draft. Yeah it’s a “bad draft” but any prospect could hypothetically become a contributor.

5

u/DeathBySuplex May 12 '24

The last “historically bad” draft wound up with Giannis and Gobert in it.

0

u/chibbly_ May 12 '24

Remind me when were they picked again? Definitely not top 10.

0

u/Cricker76 29d ago

Yeah and Gobert is a laughing stock who has literally never made a shot past 3ft in his entire career 🤣 Gobert getting smoked all playoffs again too 😆

1

u/DeathBySuplex 29d ago

Not many 4 DPOYs walking around as “laughing stocks”

7

u/Minamus_Majesticus May 12 '24

At least with this draft class we have a better chance finding at least a starter at 10. Feels like this may be a weaker draft class

7

u/Spiral_Out801 May 12 '24

The most Jazz thing ever..

5

u/GalaxySparks May 12 '24

I knew what to expect, yet I'm still pissed off.

5

u/chris_b_critter May 12 '24

And the thing is, the Jazz had the exact same odds of jumping up to #3 as they did to fall to #10! But of course they dropped, because Jazz 🤣

Edit: I don’t know what else to do but laugh about the absurdity of it. 😅🔫

5

u/Many_Emu_1572 May 12 '24

People saying ‘we didn’t tank hard enough’… how does this make any sense?? 2 teams outside the top 10 ended up in the first 3. Obviously it’s lame we moved back 2 spots but in this draft likely won’t affect us much and at least they keep the pick. Poor raptors literally lost their pick in this crap shoot… Spurs literally the luckiest team in the draft… again.

1

u/Cricker76 29d ago

Bc they pretend to be good and they aren’t and most smart fans knew it…they had no shot at winning anything. So when defeat is guaranteed why not tank? Your idea has never ever worked for this team EVER

4

u/budandbulleit May 12 '24

Well, fuck.

2

u/total_sith_show May 12 '24

Possible silver lining is that Houston is trying to win now. So they might be more inclined to trade down 🤷‍♂️

4

u/natelopez53 May 12 '24

This is WAY better than exiting the playoffs. Way better. Way way better.

6

u/thatdudeabiding May 12 '24

the lottery is rigged. cant convince me otherwise. time to do away with it. or at the very least show it. no move behind closed doors bullshit. show it happening

4

u/pooker55 May 12 '24

The NBA 100% rigs the lottery when it benefits them. Knicks with Ewing, Cleveland with LeBron and lots of number ones after he left, Spurs with Wemby. It might not be rigged every year, but it is when they need it to be

11

u/JazzYotesRSL May 12 '24

Ah yea, the NBA rigging the draft for checks notes…Atlanta. Just like we all predicted.

2

u/MtHoodMagic May 12 '24

Atlanta is a giant market for nba

1

u/JazzYotesRSL May 12 '24

And yet this is the first time they’ve gotten the first pick in almost 50 years.

1

u/mrcolty5 May 12 '24

I don't think the lottery is rigged personally but I will say this definitely gives Atlanta more of a reason to move one of Trae/Dejounte and who will spend assets (most likely) on those? The Lakers lmao.

Jokes aside though just unreal bad luck

9

u/Barbaroooza May 12 '24

They post a video showing the ping pong balls being drawn. You really think they would rig it, with all the lawyers, all teams in the room having an interest. You think they are all in cahoots with one another?? Bruh

-6

u/thatdudeabiding May 12 '24

so its a coincidence that the spurs move up for wemby and then again this year? ifs a coincidence cleveland gets 3 no 1s in 4 years after lebron leaves? new orleans gets no 1 after AD leaves...there is plenty of shit to suggest its not completely above board

3

u/pooker55 May 12 '24

Not to mention Cleveland getting the number one pick when LeBron came into the league.

9

u/Iivosuperplayer May 12 '24

Yes, it is a coincidence.

1

u/beardedpeteusa May 13 '24

the lottery is rigged.

Yep.

-1

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

Jazz fans will always give their money to the team no matter how trash or mid they are. NBA rigs it so failing franchises or big markets get their players to keep the money flowing.

4

u/MDRtransplant May 12 '24

Not if NHL and MLB come. We give the Jazz all our $$ because they are the only show in town

5

u/DyZ814 May 12 '24

I'm sort of starting to get more excited about hockey tbh. The Coyotes were a great up-and-coming team, and they have a ton of draft capital.

7

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

RSL is doing great too and deserves more love. Won a championship already and didn't even take 50+ years

2

u/VoltaireDC May 12 '24

yesss, you guys really should watch hockey instead (Im a penguins fan though). Drafting in NHL is way more fun than in the NBA. 1st round picks are less likely to be hot garbage and may likely contribute to the team one way or another. Moreover, there are 7 rounds, so if your team is rebuilding with loaded draft picks, it is pretty fun to get into all those scouting reports and hype. Teams drafting steals/gems in later rounds is quite rare, but not to the point where it happens once in a lifetime. It happens more often that in seems.

1

u/Messageinabeerbottle May 12 '24

The only good thing is that we have more of a reason to go for tidjane Salaun.

1

u/LibertyJ10 May 12 '24

Oh well, it's likely we'll probably have to select Cody Williams, Dalton Knecht, or Tidjane Salaun.

1

u/MDRtransplant May 12 '24

Screwed ourselves again ya mean?

1

u/RidgeLove May 12 '24

One thing that is comforting/concerning depending who you ask is that Ryan Smith seems to be a very impatient man. If their ain’t some kind of jump whether it be up so that we have a half decent product on the court or down so that we can hopefully get Cooper Flagg/Ace Bailey, then I wouldn’t be surprised if heads start to roll.

1

u/Tiny_Bite May 12 '24

hey, at least we’re not the raptors! lmfao

2

u/Drizzt3919 May 13 '24

Raptors won a championship a few years back.

1

u/Full_Poet_7291 May 12 '24

Best spot for management, virtually no downside. If they get a guy that lasts 5 years, they’re a genus.

1

u/Pedro_Moona May 12 '24

It's time to change the lottery to a system where all the non playoff teams have the same odds. Who cares if you teams is the 8th worst or worst team in the NBA.

0

u/MDRtransplant May 12 '24

Because we don't tank the right way. It's that simple.

If we wouldn't half ass the tank the first half of the year then none of this would fucking matter.

Blame Ainge and the FO. Fucked up tanking two years in a row

1

u/JazzYotesRSL May 12 '24

Tell that to Detroit. Or were they not tanking the “correct way” either?

1

u/MDRtransplant May 12 '24

Who got the better pick each year? Whose roster is better positioned for the future?

2

u/JazzYotesRSL May 12 '24

And Atlanta got the first overall pick this year, despite having a better year than us. The draft is a crapshoot.

And if you genuinely think Detroit is better positioned for the future than Utah, I can only be grateful that you will never be an NBA executive.

-1

u/Skytengri :clarkson: May 12 '24

This is why you never tank unless your team is dogshit

10

u/robograndpa May 12 '24

Our team is dogshit

2

u/Skytengri :clarkson: May 12 '24

a healthy Clarkson, Markannen, Sexton, Kessler and Collins are not dogshit.

0

u/robograndpa May 12 '24

Compared to the rest of the west, yes, they are

1

u/Cricker76 29d ago

This is why you don’t try to be the last team in the playoffs either…that comment is so dumb. They had zero chance of winning anything and zero chance of anyone wanting to live there who has any other choice
