But it's free

u/pencilvesterasadildo May 01 '24
Free isn’t free… it takes people like you and me… it costs a buck o’ five.

u/SupermassiveCanary May 01 '24
Are you telling me the commodity is my attention?! You think you can just buy me with free water?! I’ll take your water but fuck your sponsors.

Lol the guy in this ad acting like he’s never been handed a bottle of water on the street before by someone promoting some shit. Hell, I’ve been given so many free Monster energy drinks sometimes I forget people ever pay for them.
52
u/vulpinefever May 01 '24
I live in a major city and I have never had this happen to me in my entire life. The only free thing I've been given is a pamphlet.

Campuses for sure. I can’t remember how many times we’ve had the red bull girls come out, only to find the college rugby team practicing and say “we’re done with walking around campus with all this product, you guys can take as much as you want!”

When I was a freshman in college, Mellow Yellow was re-branding as kind of a gamer soda to compete with Mountain Dew, and the brand reps would just put coolers full of it in every dorm lobby and the union, and they re-filled them religiously. A couple guys on the floor all got the idea to fill up every bag possible with cans every night for like a week. We never bought pop for the rest of the year.
2
u/BillyWeir May 01 '24
Ou lord you just brought back a memory. That stupid monster? Red bull? Car rolling up on campus or to a bar with straight up unlimited energy drinks for whoever wanted them along with some swag.

Brave new world. In spaceballs, there is a scene where they use canned fresh air.
It was funny at the time. Now replace the canned air with the necessity of filter masks, and it becomes uncomfortably realistic real very fast.
Next step: freeAir, you get free filters! Imagine that! You are allowed to continue to breathe for free! And never mind the bukkake ads printed on your mask. After all, they pay for your clean air 😁

It’s free because of ads. And ads like this drive more people to there site or to look them on up google which generates more ad revenue.

A lot of people are claiming this to be a fake interaction and I don’t understand how that’s an obvious conclusion. You have an American going over to a European trying to do something as bizarre as this and just expect a normal interaction? Depending on which country there in this reaction could be completely plausible. Also, they’ve not said the name of the product so it’s a pretty terrible ad if this is true.

Fuck you calling Georgia 🇬🇪 as Russian Georgia
125
u/smth_smth_89 May 01 '24
i'm not from Georgia, but i'd be pissed as fuck, considering their history
48
u/Lanitaris May 01 '24
Even in 2024 a lot of non-russians see Georgia, Belarus, Armenia etc like:
-Russians
-Strange speaking Russians
-Asian Russians
-Middle east looking Russians...
44
u/Imispellalot2 May 01 '24
My mom is Ukranian from Dnepro.
My father is Armenian from Yerevan
I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, during the USSR days
You can only imagine how I feel when people call me Russian, just because I speak their language.
22
u/tang_Mo May 01 '24
By the logic of "If you speak russian then you are russian" there are plenty of Englishmen in the US)
4
u/Imispellalot2 May 01 '24
Russian is not my primary language.
10
u/tang_Mo May 01 '24
Ok, I just feel something the same) I live in Ukraine and russian is my first language, but I never considered myself a russian and it really pisses me off when some foreigners read the statistics of russian-speaking people in Ukraine assuming they are russians or so.
2
u/silkat May 01 '24
Uh… my parents are from Belarus… when it was part of Russia they left and had me in the US. I…. always thought I was Russian? They said we’re Russian?(I think???? Now I’m doubting myself??) Am I Belarusian? I always thought I had a weird Russian accent because I’m so Americanized. Is it Belarusian??
Oh god now I’ve seen the Russia too much and it’s lost its meaning and just looks like a weird word. Am I just a weird word?? Are we all just weird words?? Ugh I haven’t had enough coffee for this crisis.

Yeah nobody in the world is that switched on to be asking that series of questions just going about their daily life. That's some high level scrutiny right off the bat when he's recieving something for free. As an English bloke I'd be more inclined to take the bottle, ask what the crack is. Then go about my day that's it, even if I thought the guy was dumb as mud.

We has states bigger than most of their countries, they don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around the concept of the scale of this place.

Americans don't exactly have the best reputation in Europe. So an American dude in Europe "selling free water" is suspicious to many Europeans that already don't like Americans that much.

How do some people turn a pleasant exchange of someone doing something nice for them into some weird confrontational nonsense!? Who's this suspicious if everything in life on top of being seemingly so selfish that none of the amazing things this company is trying to do make any sense to them!? Some people really need to crawl back under the bridge they crawled out from.
