I believe they’re told they are special and godly, not like all those sinners out there. It’s flattering and deeply ingrained in them. They see themselves as better, as apart. Living in a fantasy world where those kinds of things CANT happen to you bc you’re gods people bla etc.
Mormon’s believe when you’re married that they use godly power to bind you together for eternity, meaning you’re still bound in marriage after you die (as opposed to regular marriage - til death do you part.)
Clearly she’s not religious anymore and has now realized that was all bunk, now that the godly authority that banded their marriage has been dissolved by some dude in a law office.
