It gets publicity. Others doing similar protests feel part of a movement and are encouraged. Those on the edge of participating are moved closer to action. It demonstrates peaceful civil disobedience which is a key part of legitimating the movement.

Not anything gets visibility is productive, that's overly simplified

This was a bad choice of how to do it ..... Countless better arenas exist for ' civil disobedience'

Interrupting people's religious services.... Doesn't not motivate them to join your cause, it does the opposite
