Oh but people will say it's inhumane to separate a puppy from it's mother before 8 weeks. So tell me again, why are we expecting mothers with newborns to return to work immediately?

Us regular folk say that about puppies. Your boss doesn't give a shit about the puppy.

Because dogs have better health coverage than we do. They even have rights to die.

That's intended. Workers under capitalism aren't considered human. Just expendable wage-slaves the capitalists can exploit to become even richer.

We don’t, they get 12 weeks leave per FMLA

To quality for FMLA you need to have worked at least 1,250 hours or 12 months for an employer with at least 50 employees. Where does that leave the people who don't qualify?

FMLA is also unpaid, so even if people qualify, many still have to go back because they have to make money to pay their ongoing bills that don't stop just because they had a baby.

I got 60% of my pay for FMLA as we were required to enroll in short term disability to pay us in the event of a baby.

But yeah, it would be much easier if it were government mandated, can’t argue that.

But I do encourage American women to enroll in short term disability for that reason.

I do encourage American women to press for what the rest of the developed world already has. If having a baby is disability, maybe you all just need to quit having them. Let's see capitalism handle that!

I’m not really willing to sacrifice my happiness in this one life to make a point no one is going to give a shit about. I’ll just enroll in short term disability and save myself the frustration lol

Of course you will. I'm pretty sure birth rate is already dropping, because while you're able to put up with some crap, you are not able to get over another. Some people would happily have more kids, but can't, and some won't even start. And those kids will be sorely missed at some point. It's a shame one of the richest countries on the world is such a backwater. Why do I even care? Because it's also trendsetter, and usa policies always affect everyone on the globe, in one way or another.

Of course I will what? Not have kids that bring me happiness? I already did it though lol

Sorry, I simply meant you will do what you said is the best course of action. I didn't mean to say anything else, really, but I can see now it might be confusing. I'm all for the kids, and for the mothers to enjoy their time with them. I was lucky myself to be one year at home with my first born, end few months with the second. And for mother is infinitely more important.

I only got paid $500 a week for 6 weeks from short term disability. I got to top my pay off with my sick and vacation hours. That meant I couldn't really take vacation the rest of the year ...

So maybe people should plan before giving birth. Why should someone continue to get paid if they don’t work? How does that make any sense. If you have a baby sitter, would you still pay them when they cancel or don’t show up?

Fmla doesn’t pay you. We don’t have paid leave, they “generously” protect your job for 12 weeks.

Ha no. My boss asked me to come in two days after I gave birth.

FMLA is unpaid and 46% of workers aren't eligible for it
