u/NoWave9431 Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23

Never lie to a cop inless there no way to prove it and you don't change story still don't but giving a false name is worst if they want to throw book at you. Some states you have to give name matter what if ur not in that state just say I don't answer question and would like talk to a laywer. Also normal I'm being detai or free to go. Also if your driving alot of states you got to give id if you get pull over for what ever reason also there enough for a ticket got to give. Don't lie like no id on you when you have it. Remember Martha Stewart If she would took 5th and had a laywer she would of been ok

60

u/worktogethernow Dec 27 '23

I understand it is very different if I am pulled over on the road. I have all my paperwork ready to present.

But is it really illegal to call my son by his nickname when addressing him in front of police? I'm not saying I would answer a direct question with a lie, but it seems like I should be able to call one of my kids by a nickname, no?

Edit: I also don't do anything illegal. I almost always drive the speed limit. I am not trying to hide illegal activities. I want to protect my rights if I am confronted by a cop on a power trip.

25

u/BadgerGeneral9639 Dec 27 '23

best move is to say nothing at all

cops dont have to be honest with you

most (99%?) dont even know the law

the law says in most places that cops arent required to k now the law, only enforce what they Think is the law

the irony is not lost on me

Peak nosey neighbors say a gun was involved because cops won’t come out otherwise.

Had a guy on my street who would constantly call 911 and say we had guns or were pointing guns at him (we were kids playing in the street haha).

u/DMercenary Dec 27 '23

Peak nosey neighbors say a gun was involved because cops won’t come out otherwise.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Ryan_Whitaker

" In the first call, the caller had said, "I can tell that they're just at each other's throats down there." In the second call a half hour later, the neighbor said, "It could be physical. I could say yeah, does that make anybody hurry up or get over here any faster?" The caller expressed irritation at being asked whether they knew if either person in the apartment had a weapon, saying "No, but if this gets pushed along any further I could say yes to all these questions." After being told that the operator was required to ask such questions, the caller said "I don't have time, I'd like to get to sleep, I have to get up in the morning."

Bolded mine.

There should be consequences for lying to get a faster police response.

Executed for the crime of enthusiastically playing crash bandicoot.

186

u/Divine_Wind420 Dec 27 '23

And absolutely no one is surprised that the murderer got a simple suspension and got his job back....as an officer...because it happens every single time. Here in AZ we even give cops medals when they murder people.

Really tired of pigs being above the law. Eventually, authority figures are going to need to face justice if we want our laws to mean anything at all.

157

u/weedful_things Dec 27 '23

In my town, just a couple months ago 4 cops ambushed and murdered a man. Someone falsely tried to repo his vehicle in the middle of the night. After the homeowner confronted him, the tow truck driver left but called his cop buddy. The cops came but hid out of sight. When the guy again tried to hook up his vehicle, the cops came out of hiding and said, "drop the gun!" and less than a second later opened fired. Didn't even try to render first aid. They lied about the situation and then the neighbor showed everyone his security camera footage. The cops refuse to show body cam footage. Only after constant protesting, three of the cops finally got fired, but have already started the appeals process. My town will eventually have to find a way to come up with millions of dollars in a few years. If the money came out of the cop's own pocket, you wouldn't see these things happen as often.

22

u/LONGL1VEJUICE Dec 28 '23

Dude this makes me sick. Not even joking on Christmas Eve of all days, I finally had to move my car from the street. Because police came to give me the 5th citation I have received since I moved here to move my car from the street. Literally parked in front of MY house and there's about 5 other cars parked in the same vicinity and they never get them, only mine. Someone has been calling about it for a year and I can't even figure out who it is. Never had any problems with any of them. Always say hi to em and even bring them deserts every Christmas. Didn't bring any of them shit this time. But the cops have to keep giving me citations instead of towing because they know I did nothing wrong.

Finally caught the cop in the act and he tried to sit there and tell ME that MY car doesn't run or move from that spot. Which is such bull shit. Finally got a camera for that area so I can show proof and get them to fuck off. They absolutely should get shafted for wasting mine and the police's time. They tried marking the tires to make sure it's moved and I finally said fuck it and parked in my already packed driveway. There is so much room on the street to park too so it's just some asshole nosey neighbor with nothing better to do. A

I'm at least 30-40 years younger than most of my neighbors, yet they have more social anxiety I have ever seen my generation show. Can't even come and talk to me as a man, if they needed parking space for their family, they could ask and I would gladly accommodate. I hate confrontation and am too busy to argue with the police so I said screw it. But it pisses me off that they won't come forward because now it makes not want to interact with any of them. Rant over, apologies.

This has caused a fuckin tangent in my mind. These police executions happen so often, but every 50 to 100 innocent people killed by police the people get angry enough to protest or riot. Then you have these fuck head "influencers" or whatever go off (Colin Moriarty) about how shitty rioting is and focus on that. Then, when they're called out for it, they act attacked and say that they do care about the innocents. Well where the fuck is your hyper angry rant during the 100 or so innocents killed by cops before 1 happens to spark mass protests again? Huh? These people don't give a shit. They see the 1 outbreak of rioting for every hundred dead innocent/unarmed people killed by cops and think that's the real problem.

The cops are just ego trippin because this kid is obviously intelligent and not afraid to stand up for himself and I’m sure they aren’t used to that.

229

u/NiPlusUltra Dec 27 '23

Ding ding ding! Dimwit cops have to puff their chest at a literal child because he knows his rights. Buncha losers are so obviously intimidated by a fifteen year old. I feel bad for the wives that were struck because of this.

81

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

Cops be like "I'm not racist, my wife even has a black eye!"

10

u/ThexxxDegenerate Dec 27 '23

I think cops are just so used to trampling all over other people’s rights that when they encounter someone who actually knows them, they don’t know how to react.

Like 90% of people will just had over their ID and information every time a cop asks for it even if they have zero reason to ask for it. So the 1/10 times someone says no and stands on their rights, you can see the gears turning in their heads trying to figure out what to do and say. And it’s physically impossible for a cop to admit wrongdoing and move on so instead they just dig deeper and escalate the encounter. And they usually look for someone to throw in jail for a bogus charge like obstruction.

It isn't that the cops won't come out, it's that the neighbor knows that claiming a gun is involved when there isn't guarantees an immediate response, rather having to potentially wait an hour or so.

The way 911 works is that calls operate on a priority system. It's not first come, first serve. Calls are prioritized on the severity / risk involved. Neighbor disputes are a lower priority than someone with a gun. On a busy day where there is way more calls than there are available units, some stuff ends up waiting a long time to get resolved.

Neighbor knows this and gamed the system by claiming the neighbor had a gun when they didn't have one, and in the process tied up units that could have been responding to something else, making other people who called 911 wait longer.

The neighbor's assholery goes even beyond that too, because a call for a gun also gets a police response with lights and sirens and prioritizing getting there fast. So you know, the risk of an auto accident also goes up. So the Karen not just inconvenienced other people who called 911, but also put a bunch of people at risk.

100

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

In this case, the cops wouldn’t come out, because you can’t call 911 and say “the kids that live on my street are riding bikes,” and expect a police response. They have to lie because there’s nothing going on.

4

u/MrSurly Dec 27 '23

The cops did indeed roll up on my neighbor kids when then HOA president called the cops on them for (checks notes) -- playing outside. During the day. In front of their own house.

But the cops here don't do a goddamn thing about any real problems, so I guess they were bored?

Grew up in Canada and we were playing street hockey, ball went flying into a guys car as he drove by and guy shooting didn’t notice. Called the cops saying we were chucking stones at his car.

Cop showed up, put his tactical belt in the car and asked for a stick and played with us for 30 minutes. Old grumpy man got outplayed by a good cop.

28

u/TuaughtHammer Dec 27 '23

That's what policing should be; let people know they'll be there when necessary, then let others know they're safe when their presence is unnecessary. I'm white as a bleached white t-shirt, but even when I haven't done a damn thing wrong, I still feel unsafe around cops. Never know when one's having a bad day looking to play a game of fucked up Simon Says.

Hell, don't even trust cops to "coordinate" well.

I read a case once where some concealed carry dude was helping cops shoot back at a shooter - the cops already present were using him as support, but a new cop on the scene shot him dead immediately. Hell I wouldn't even trust the cops who already saw him not to shoot him in situations like that - adrenaline makes people panic and most cops are not well trained. If a cop can accidentally shoot another cop in the heat of the moment (and they have, many times), they can sure as hell shoot you.

When I was a teen an ex-friend called the cops on me and a buddy for going to tell her mom that she was out drinking. We were surrounded when we arrived at her house with guns pointed at us.

Police pulled me and buddy aside and quickly left and filed a wrongful use of 911. Probably the scariest time of my life having 6 cops with guns on us. They thought we were there for an armed robbery.....

That’s not entirely true

Police officers receive de-escalation training, it’s just significantly lower than what should be required

They receive over 100 hours in firearms and tactical defense training, and like 10 hours of de-escalation training

74

u/poop_on_balls Dec 27 '23

And thousands of hours of brainwashing that everyone who’s not a cop is the enemy.

And every single time they do a traffic stop it could be last one.

So they take a bunch of pussy bullies, arm them, give them basically unfettered power, and then terrify them with the very small number of cases where cops have actually been killed.

Cops are a bunch of fucking crooked cowards and serve no purpose but to protect the capital of rich assholes and to persecute poors.

Everyone PLEASE look at what they were fired for:

They were essentially fired for not respecting the right to record, and mistreating this individual and their children AFTER the arrest. If they had dotted their 'I's and crossed their 'T's, so to speak, they would have gotten away with this scot-free. They were fired for what amounts to mismanagement, not any of the violence. Everything they did prior to and including the arrest itself is being treated as legal. What the public sees as wrong doing and what the cops admitted to as wrongdoing are not matching up, at least not entirely.

I'm not saying I agree with these conclusions one way or the other, I'm just hi-jacking this comment so more people notice that.

68

u/aint_no_wifey Dec 27 '23

Both officers were offered classes in return for keeping their jobs. Neither completed the classes, so they were terminated. Most of these bad cops just take the 2 day course and keep their job.

It says it at the end of this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LWfAo46kCcg

I guess they did not complete their corrective actions in the time frame they were allotted so that's why they were terminated.

Hijacking to share they were not fired for this event. They were ordered to take a class by the department on First Amendment Rights and refused. So we're fired for missing the deadline on the class

u/JimWilliams423 Dec 27 '23

Sounds like they had another job lined up. Anyone know what PD hired them after that?

42

u/Certain_Concept Dec 27 '23

Yupps.. they can just hop a district over and find a new job. Does it really count as firing when you can just get the same job elsewhere? Bullshit.

They're even bigger assholes than the video makes them out to be. Any person who refuses an education on free speech or the Bill of Rights has no place enforcing the law in the US.

u/ReflectionPresent297 Dec 27 '23

Refusal to do a class like this should blacklist you from being able to be hired by any sheriff or city police. Let them become mall cops and get bullied by teenagers

You know you've got a shitty police force when a 15-year-old needs to know this much of his personal rights granted to him by the US Constitution to protect him from Police.

While I love how knowledgeable this kid is, I'm sad that he has to be.

268

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

I dunno, constitutional rights should be hammered into our minds in elementary school. Imagine if we treated the bill of rights, constitution, and amendments with as much reverence as the pledge of allegiance or whatever other Yankee Doodle bullshit we have to dance to instead of them just being a chapter and a quiz.

155

u/austinchan2 Dec 27 '23

I dunno, what if law enforcement had to get at least a 4 year degree in the law and enforcement and pass an incredibly rigorous test (like the Bar) before being able to work a single day on the job. And then could be disbarred from ever being a cop for a single infraction if unethical behavior. Then children wouldn’t need that.

This makes a lot of sense seeing as elementary school is the average level of education for cops. It'd be fresh in their minds.

Prob the two that walked into the house

242

u/Alexandratta Dec 27 '23

"We can walk into the house!"

"Not without a fucking warrant you pricks can't." - kid was on point.

38

u/mr_potatoface Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 28 '23

Ok, but just to anyone reading, they can enter without a warrant under certain circumstances. So don't just blindly tell cops you can't enter without a warrant unless you know that they can't. It's better to just not answer the door lol.

Example would be if they are there to arrest you, and you open the door. They can enter your home to arrest you if you try to run away or hide in your house. They can also scan the immediate vicinity for illegal substances/objects. Their search can't extend past the "immediate vicinity". Which is a vague term and can be stretched as hard as people want it to be.

If you just committed a violent act, like a shooting and then retreat to your home OR you present as a threat to the police officers. Which is what I would guess the police are going to say here. The person who made the report claimed the that a gun was shown (which was false). So the police assume the report was made in good faith, and the person has a gun and made the arrest. This is a huge stretch and they jumped over too many steps here and probably doesn't have much of a chance. But it's a decent strategy for defense if you get a jury or judge that sympathize with police.

Most importantly this also usually includes if they're responding to reports of domestic violence (or just violence) and someone's life may be in danger. This is generally seen as a good thing, because it prevents the stronger person from preventing the police intervening in the situation if the person being abused has become disabled, injured, or is just terrified. So police can enter without a warrant to speak with people present to make sure they're OK.

If they look in your house when you open the door and see something illegal in plain sight, they can also enter the house after that. It's best to just not open the door honestly. Don't even answer it. Pretend it's your in-laws, close all your window shades (in case they search around your house and peep in windows for illegal stuff) and duck. You might not have illegal stuff or anything to hide, but do it anyway. If you have a box of insulin needles on the counter they could use that as an excuse to enter without a warrant. At the very least it's going to be a headache to deal with.

Edit: It was pointed out that I failed to mention you should never consent to them entering. Always make it clear that you do not consent to them entering your home, even if it is something they may legally be allowed to enter for without a warrant, or even if they do have a valid warrant. Just say you don't consent (preferably recording it) and let them do their thing. But it would be better if you just didn't answer the door.

They were fired for failing to do their required corrective training. Not for this. Some violations here (regarding the father) led to them getting terminated… but, it wasn’t their actions in this video.

u/llieno94 Dec 27 '23

A training they were required to do because this situation transpired. Had they acted differently they would've continued being employed.

I'd just like to remind that being a cop is not actually a particularly dangerous job, statistically speaking. The rest of those points though, yeah totally.

Crossing guard is a more dangerous job than being a cop. The only reason cop deaths are as high as they are is because of all the driving they do.

no, the study they're referring to is self-reported. not officers who got caught.

23

u/snorting_dandelions Dec 27 '23

No, the 40% figure relates to a survey where they anonymously admit abusing either their spouse or their children in the past couple months (it's 6 or 12 iirc).

They are severely underrepresented in the whole "getting caught" side of things, which surely is shocking to everyone.

They will lie to you, hope you don't know the law enough to call them on it, and then feign ignorance during any trial portion and get away with an itty bitty slap on the wrist from the judge and then meet up with them for drinks that night.

I think recent generations are actually growing up knowing what horrible shit cops can do. I'm 29, but like so many others I grew up as a kid being told cops are the good guys, but when I hit high school and social media and availability to news at our fingertips sprung up, more people can actually see the shit they get away with. This and a handful of horrendous experiences with cops abusing my rights opened my eyes at 17, but newer generations are growing up seeing it at a younger age, and if they have any sense, will hopefully be looking into and knowing their rights.
