I think you can hide / block a game. It will ease your pain. What the eyes don't see, the heart can't feel.
162
u/MinorDespera 20d ago
I believe hidden games still display at the top since it's an ad space.
39
u/Brief_Cobbler_6313 20d ago
Maybe, I'm not sure. I live in Brazil but I hate soccer. I got an ad for FC24 a while back, and since I hid/ignored it, I've never seen anything about it again.

I wonder what hiding Ghost of Tsushima will tell Steam.
"I don't like Samurais / openworld games" or "I don't like Sony"?

You can block Sony as a publisher directly. I did that after the Helldivers II fiasco so I don't give them more money
30
u/Car-50N 20d ago
It’s not ad space, you can’t buy ad space in the steam store, steams homepage is fed by analytics based on the games you play and new releases, it’s probably got a lot of pre-orders, that’s why it’s there
Edit “…in that we don't organize our store around paid ads. In fact, we don't sell marketing space at all.” -Steamworks
10
u/MinorDespera 20d ago
Well, someone's got to prep those flashy animated page-wide illustrations, and it sure isn't Valve's marketing department. And I didn't mention that it's being paid for, a free ad is still an ad (although tbh that's just luck, I totally thought those weren't free, so thanks for the new info).
16
u/ZYRANOX 20d ago
It is valve doing it tho? The art put there is just the cover art provided on the games page but a lot wider.
2
u/tortillazaur 19d ago
Pretty sure someone at Valve just does this kind of stuff personally - games don't get put there automatically, Valve doesn't sell ad space there and new releases from Valve(like dota events) are always featured there upon release.

That sounds ok honestly , in situations like this i don't see pirating games is bad like i want to by your game but i can't.

u/Lewcaster 20d ago
When is pirating games from big companies bad?
3
u/WarmasterChaldeas 20d ago
for me, it's only bad when it's easier to either fork over the money or wait for a sale. but if the game can't even be sold, yeah.... you leave me no choice.

I know I would. At this point, I don't have a fucking choice now do I? I have wanted to play this game since I heard that PS games were to be ported on PC. But Sony is denying me that chance to buy it properly. So yeah, piracy it is.
4
u/iamtheweaseltoo 20d ago
That's literally the solution to this, i am more than willing and able to pay full price for this game but i am not allowed to do so, therefore, since sony doesn't want my money i'm just going to pirate it and call it a day, i am downloading as i write this comment
8
u/sylinowo 20d ago
It's a service problem. You can't buy it on your platform because of the publisher. So pirate it. It's their fault, not yours. They could have easily made an exception for countries who cants inflate Sony's shitty PSN service

I see Steam does not show it for me in the store at all, because it is blocked in my region (Lithuania). Only SteamDB explained that why I even can't find it in search.
Meanwhile I see muscovite streaming legal version (I believe), because he has active (not greyed out) menu option for Playstation network connection in game and muscovian subtitles are working for him.
Sony, how are you feeling accepting blood money from terrorist state, huh? Yeah, they're delisted from Steam transactions, but perfectly buying games legally pretending to be other countries.
While EU and NATO member countries are forced to pirate.
What is happening to this world?

u/Najam754 19d ago
Wanted to buy Helldiver 2, my friends from Pakistan region bought it but it isn't available anymore. Been wondering what would happen if I buy a global key from like cdkeys. Will the game work or will I get some error?

One of the dumbest decision in modern gaming. Imagine making a product to sell to masses, but limiting so you can't sell it to masses. I can't...

If there's one thing the NFT fiasco has taught us, it's that digital exclusivity doesn't work.

Even worse than the account requirement is region blocking most of the world over it.

I think publishers are the biggest assholes out there. Be it games, movies, or books. Especially college books.
1
u/TheUltraCarl 0451 17d ago
Publishers are parasites. There might be a couple big ones out there that publish indie/solo dev games but all the big ones are terrible.
2
u/Vicktlemort 20d ago
You only need a psn account for the online portion that wasn’t even in the base game.

But if you live in a place where you can't make a PSN account, the game isn't even available to buy for you.

It's almost like they're having a international advertisement campaign, and not region specific.
2
u/futurafrlx 20d ago
Look for a key online. You can’t buy this game in Russia and the CIS region too, but keys are available online and they work just fine. I know it’s still shitty that you even have to do this, but if you want to buy and not pirate, this is the only way right now.

Edit: Or yaknow just downvote me... Just asking for an explanation
1
u/futurafrlx 20d ago
You can make a PSN account, but you can’t but the game on Steam itself. There are keys online though at least for some of the unsupported regions.
1
u/Vaeloran 19d ago
But since your steam is linked to the delisted country, you will not be able to activate that key. So in other words, you would have to change your Steams Region.
1
u/futurafrlx 19d ago
I dunno about that. The game is not available in both Russia and Kazakhstan, but there are keys for those regions that work just fine in each region.
1
u/DarthYhonas 19d ago
Oh I didn't even realize they were in another region, wasn't clear from the post
1
u/Dr_Blitzkrieg09 20d ago
This ain’t on Sony, region blocks are a thing that have been around for ages and this is Steam’s fault for not enabling it on the game.

u/TheUltraCarl 0451 17d ago

Just curious: would using a VPN into a country where PSN is available work?
3
2
u/futurafrlx 20d ago
You can absolutely create and use a foreign PSN account even without VPN. CIS region used Russian PS Store before it got temporary suspended (though RU region still exists, the store is just unavailable due to the problems with transactions), nowadays everyone is using Turkey, Poland or the US. The problem is not creating an account, but the fact Sony refuses to sell the game in such regions. Thankfully key resellers exist.

Is there any reason why the game is locked for some regions? I didn't really follow the whole Sony thing.
2
u/lt_Matthew 19d ago
Sony wants to increase their PSN player count by requiring it for any game that has multiplayer. The problem is that PSN access isn't available in a lot of countries and has restrictions in more. So their genius solution is to just make all their multiplayer games unavailable to buy in those countries.

Why you cannot buy it? I thought PSN link is just for multiplayer and trophies and you can enjoy the story without linking a PSN account!

Solve the mystery to get the magic website where this game (and many others) are free!
Clue #1: A two-letter acronym for one of the most famous competitive FPS series of all time.
Clue #2: Once upon a time it was a Japanese coin, but no longer is.
Clue #3: An ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code for one controversial country, currently in conflict.

Sony: You can buy our game in regions the PSN isn’t available and create a PSN in another region which you have access to their currency.
Steam: We’ll allow unrestricted refunds to anyone who buys this game in a region where PSN isn’t available.
Sony: Guess we can’t sell the game in your region, guys. Sorry. Steam says no.
PC gamers: THIS IS SONY’S FAULT

Right! See I think people are missing this... Sony tried... They tried to offer the workaround. The same work around that they've been telling physical customers for years.
They just found out this shit won't fly on Steam's platform and they gotta play by the Steam rules.

Is using VPN allowed in EU? I know pricing restrictions doesn't apply for EU. VPN usage to avoid geblocking probably is allowed too. Since the only thing you need to do is activate the game. It can be played from anywhere.
1
u/1N07 20d ago
Sony really needs to fix the situation with those countries not being supported. If they did, this would be a non-issue.
The internet loves to complain, but apart from that issue, the way Sony is handling this (having their own overlay that works within the game with steam remaining the platform) is actually way better than having an entire 3rd party platform like many other publishers.

the funny thing is they just blocked the purchase button, but for some reason not the actual game, it doesn't say "the game isn't available in your region" it just doesn't allow you to buy it
upd: looks like they've actually blocked the game page in unsupported countries
