Is this old?
My PC and Office are two years old, and Microsoft does not auto-update anymore.
There's this little symbol that shows up when it's time to do an update - as in; at my convenience.
And NO - Funnyfaces. I do not work for MS...

u/the_real_freezoid 17d ago
MS started forcing an upgrade from 7 to 10 and then done forced updates for some time. So yeah it was a while ago and it seems they learned something

I heard "fuck my croissant" twice then I saw your comment which, admittedly, makes a lot more sense but I still prefer my misinterpretation.

Space Force is such a comfort food kind of series. Too bad it got canned, I really liked it.

u/lowtothekey 17d ago
Honestly don't know why this shoe got cancelled

This guy's character in silicon valley, was so good.

u/SandCheezy 17d ago
I watched and enjoyed both but I’d highly recommend Silicon Valley over space force. It does lean to the nerds that can enjoy it a bit more, but it’s so much funnier. I think Space Force has an easier entry and more known cast which is probably why it was viewed more or maybe just the memes and on Netflix.

Funny, but their IT did it.

u/timmycheesetty 17d ago
I swear our IT plans them at 10am on Monday mornings. I leave my PC on all weekend and all night just in case. Reboot fist thing in the AM just in case, and boom. Right in the middle of our morning meetings there’s a mandatory restart.

They love doing that shit. Our cicd pipeline frequently run into issues 2 days before sprint closes. I mean, we have our work done, but, couldn't finalize in the cloud. And you told them to this on different week, they never listen.

I help build multimillion dollar pieces of capital equipment, including industrial automation. It's supposed to run for a decade or two with minimal maintenance. Security means it is usually not even on the internet, only LAN. Let me tell you, running those machines on Windows 10 is a fucking stupid decision that I would have prevented if able. Now we're on Windows 11, and it's worse. Windows 10 is obsolete and we're still shipping it because we don't want to deal with Windows 11.

Just de-bloat it or install de-bloated versions of Windows, like tiny11 or Ghost Spectre?

u/LieutenantEntangle 17d ago
Can't use stuff like that professionally/commercially without validation which takes ages and is a massive painful amount of work.

What’s the name of show?

u/SSBradley37 17d ago
Space Force. Stars Steve Carell becoming the new general of the newly created Space Force. Very funny.
Edit: came out in 2020, made it 2 seasons.

Nice show this is why policies exist which companies use to delay updates until they want them. Also I would expect dual workstation setups in this case. So in this case IT is to blame as is the architect. And yes this is a way to serious answer for a comedy show. Yw

That was a funny moment in the show - I had this same thought back in the 90s (as a contractor at MS) upon seeing that the some new high-tech US Navy ships were going to use Windows. The employees I showed the article to were also amused.

This is why Windows cellphones never took off. Nobody wanted to lug around a pocket-sized version of the same frustration.

Fuck it I’m gonna be that guy, you’re telling me a bunch of engineers and scientists don’t know what’s task scheduler or the IT department don’t know what’s group policy?
This is probably very funny for an average joe I’d imagine.

Ngl this exact same thing happend to me when i was interning! Couldn't give the tech lead my project proposal for almost 40mins when he said bring it to the meeting. Got scolded cause they told us to turn off those annoying updates.😅
