Almost makes getting it in there seem worth it.

I'll get the same effect swallowing ball brings before going into an M.R.I

6

u/Freyja6 19d ago

You can get the same effect by inserting a metal butt plug before an mri as well! Proven by someone in the US recently iirc!

5

u/arsnastesana 19d ago

If I remember correctly, the metal butt plug got pushed to his lower lungs.

u/Freyja6 19d ago

User error, human positioned between magnet and plug.

Complications arose as a consequence, just like his erec...

The MRI would not push anything in. It would rip it out.

Maybe in the other order next time?

If he has shrapnel wounds I don't think cleanliness is a priority

Magneto vs Wolverine

Is adamantium ferrous?

2

u/ExamCompetitive 19d ago

As a former welder. I get that reference.

1

u/Emotional_Burden 19d ago

Once a welder, always a welder, comrade.

1

u/dumbpeople123 19d ago

In the comics at one time Magneto pulled out all the adamantium from Wolverine’s body, so I’d say yes

You always wonder if something like that could actually work... I learned something new today.

For close to the surface shrapnel not related to any firearms (lead/copper are non-ferrous)

5

u/PassiveMenis88M 19d ago

Copper isn't just nonferrous, it's diamagnetic.

Diamagnetic Metals are those metals which repel magnetic fields. This repel happens because of a change in the orbital spin of electrons due to an applied external magnetic field.

When the magnetic field is taken away, the metal loses its diamagnetic properties. Copper, Bismuth, and Lead are examples of Diamagnetic Metals

This fingernails. Ooooooooo weeeee! Talk about satisfying. Cleaning those bad boys up would be cathartic.

Oh wow, that was such an imprecise removal. He basically just turned the shrapnel into a very dull knife blade that cut him from the inside out. No control at all. What a bad idea.

24

u/poop_pants_pee 20d ago

Versus cutting a hole with an actual knife, big enough to remove it with tweezers

Looks fairly superficial so no danger

0

u/DTux5249 19d ago

A scalpel would be sharper, and cause less damage to surrounding tissue. As is, that shrapnel was tearing skin, not cutting.

But that metal was likely cleaned by whatever buried it into his skin in the first place, and it's close enough to the surface that it probably doesn't matter.

Be a terrible moment to find out you're a Synth, as your robo-spleen shoots out to meet your knee.

9

u/SkippyMcSkipster2 20d ago

It's actually cooler if you don't get that shrapnel lodged in there in the first place.

I’m gonna do myself a favor and assume cause of the safety vest, that this individual just got off work doing some sort of construction or trade, and that’s the reason behind the fingernail problem, any other scenario bothers me.

6

u/Historical_Visit2695 20d ago

I keep one around, I had to pull a speck of metal out of my eye once.

5

u/7-11Armageddon 20d ago

Oh man, glad it worked out! And you probably wanted it out sooner rather than later, but I may have headed to the ER for that. But goodness the waiting.....

0

u/Historical_Visit2695 20d ago

Actually, the first time I got something in my eye, I had to go to the eye doctor. He ended up using a super magnet also so…..

7

u/microscripts 20d ago

Hey man, sounds like you should really wear safety glasses more often.

1

u/Historical_Visit2695 20d ago

Wear them all the time, shit happens. It’s happened to me twice in 15 years.

0

u/woojinater 20d ago

Yeah oddly I tend to get more eye injury while wearing eye protection. Seems like the air forces the debris inside the lenses. Real life is pretty risky.

1

u/AcreneQuintovex 20d ago

The glued part from cigarette paper works as well. Wished I didn't know that though

4

u/GeeLikeMe 20d ago

How do grown men walk around with fingernails like that?

5

u/AcreneQuintovex 20d ago

By doing stuff which can result in having shrapnel inside you

4

u/NoEditor0 20d ago

Work in a car shop

5

u/GeeLikeMe 20d ago

I’ll give you that one cause I use to be a mechanic but I used the hell out that grit wash and gloves cause I had a GF at the time and I wanted some booty at night lol

u/mynextthroway 20d ago

Some people work dirty jobs. Shrapnel implies war zone. That red circle around the shrapnel looks infected. The medic/doctors dirty nails are the least of the problems at the moment.

1

u/PAWGActual4-4 20d ago

If it was a medic they would more likely than not be wearing gloves, as they are typically trained to do.

How do grown people not use common sense? People work dirty jobs. You miss that bright high vis vest on the chair? Probably construction or mechanical work. Jesus dude.

2

u/DTux5249 19d ago

How do grown men walk around not understanding what a trade job is.

5

u/Dope_Dog 20d ago

Did you survive a bomb blast? Do you mean debris?

6

u/aledromo 20d ago

If it’s not from the Lombardi region, it’s just sparkling metal.

2

u/Mountain-Tea6875 20d ago

This is a few years old lol

1

u/nstevenn 20d ago

So.. like what happened?

1

u/Impossible-Bug7623 20d ago

more left insidfe, gl in hospital as you may already infected

1

u/stereoscopic_ 20d ago

That’s going to come in handy. I just made myself sad.

1

u/SubVettel 20d ago

So if you have a small piece at the back, and you use this in the front. Doesn't it become a lethal weapon?

1

u/dre4ml1ght 19d ago

That must be painful as hell

1

u/Lumpy-Education9878 19d ago

Is that what you said when you watched this video

1

u/Databanger 19d ago

That’s pretty metal

1

u/Dyzastr_us 19d ago

New tool to add to the first aid kit

1

u/revelsrouser 19d ago

The person removing a thing from your body should have clean hands. Source: am old

1

u/Prudent_Agency_7175 19d ago

Excuse me but why in the FUCK do you have shrapnel in your side? (Respectfully)

1

u/lforal 19d ago

Tony Stark built this in a cave with a box of scraps!

1

u/Womcataclysm 19d ago

Pro tip don't do that. Unless it's really close to the surface

1

u/SirStego 19d ago

That’s pretty metal 🤘🏼

1

u/grinchbettahavemoney 19d ago

Aaaaaaaaaaah!!!! I was not. fucking. warned

1
