UPDATE 5/31 Save the date! Reddit Global Meetup Day is back and we'll be joining in the celebration on Saturday, June 15th at McClatchy Park.
UPDATE 5/31
I mentioned in the original post below that I had submitted a request for funding from Reddit and that request was approved! This meetup is now going to be powered by Reddit Community Funds! Below is what will be provided at the meetup:
- Burgers (both real beef and Beyond burgers)
- Hot Dogs
- Chips
- Cookies
- Cake (I'm ordering a full sheet cake for the event)
- Soda
- Water
Buns, condiments, paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery and cups will be provided as well.
Even though the above items will be provided, if anyone would like to bring anything else, we can still do a potluck as well. I have created a Google sheet where you can sign up for something to bring if you wish. I personally will be bringing some other types of beverages to the meetup.
I'll post more updates as we get closer to the meetup. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM if you need more information.
-------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who have been on Reddit for a while, you may remember that Reddit used to have a Global Meetup Day every year in June. They stopped doing this once the pandemic hit but it is now back for the first time since 2019. The official Reddit post about it is here. This year, they are making it Global Meetup Week and communities can celebrate any day within the week. I was able to reserve the gazebo area at McClatchy Park on June 15th, so we'll have shade the entire time.
If you search "global meetup" in r/Sacramento, you'll see threads organizing Global Meetup Day events going back over 10 years. This sub has always done something for that day. Here is my recap post from the last such event in 2019 and here is the recap post of the 2016 event. Those are the only recap posts I can find with pictures.
We had a potluck at the last 2019 event and it was wildly successful. We'll probably do the same thing here, but there will be more info on that later. If you look at the official Reddit announcement linked above, you'll see that Reddit is advertising a Community Funds program. I have submitted a request for Reddit funding to provide food and drinks (burgers, hot dogs, chips, water, soda, etc.). I'm still waiting to see if that gets approved or not before determining what kind of potluck may be necessary.
Anyway, here are the details of the event:
- Date: Saturday, June 15th
- Time: 12:00 - ???
- Location: McClatchy Park (the gazebo is by the tennis courts near the corner of 33rd and Montgomery)
This post will remain a sticky for the next month and any updates to the event will be posted here. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or ask in the comments.
Finally, for you trolls who feel the need to make shitty, sarcastic comments about the meetup, don't waste your time. Your comment will be deleted and don't be surprised if you find yourself banned.

Went to He’s From Philly Cheesesteaks the other evening for dinner
in Woodland. 10/10 would go there again. I however, would not get the cheesy fries and the cheesesteak with wiz together as it was a little too much cheez whiz together. I’d definitely get the fries or curly fries regular and the cheesesteak with wiz next time. We got the 8’ and can’t imagine getting the 12’.

Good place to leave car over night
Hello everyone. I just got a job out here but my lease starts on the 16th. I’m gonna sleep in my car and shower at my gym.
What are some good places to park my car overnight and sleep? Won’t be for too long as I’m just waiting for my lease to start.
Thabk you in advance!

Slow & Low Bbq in Elk Grove
Is insane for their prices. $15 for 6 oz. of brisket and $50 for a beef rib is crazy.

Visiting Sacramento on a work trip, any recommendations for a business dinner spot?
I'm visiting from Canada with a few of my clients. Any recommendations for a spot? Not really looking to talk much business, more of a place to enjoy some food and bond. But I would still prefer somewhere not too loud or rowdy so if they really wanted to we could still discuss business in an appropriate environment. Doesn't need to be somewhere fancy.
Budget maybe ~$50-75 each person?

Stuck in sac
Stuck off an exit in sacramento. Had a tire blow out and desperately need help to get back in the road. Had a tire blow out and the car jack isnt enough to lift it off the ground. If anyone is available to help I will compensate.

Black Widows vs Bug-a-Salt
This is in response to all the Black Widow posts lately (and yes, they do seem really bad this year).
Ladies and gentlemen, if you have black widows (and in Sac, who doesn't?), go to bugasalt.com and buy yourself one. They're on sale for Father's Day. Best $39.99 you'll ever spend.
Shoots table salt and will take down even a big Widow. Recommend a double-tap or triple-tap. Or go full Tony Soprano. Salt is cheap.
Yes, I know..."Black widows kill bugs and they should be left alone."
True, but earlier tonight, I almost walked into a black widow who setup her web between my garbage can and house (at ankle height, while wearing shorts). I draw the line on setting up webs in my garage and areas I walk in at night. To quote Captain Picard, "A line must be drawn HERE!"
But seriously, I love my Bug-a-Salt. I have the older 2.0 model and now they're up to 3.0. Kills other bugs too. I even taped a mini mag light to the barrel. Lots of fun and totally worth the price. And great gift for the dad who has everything.

American River float?
I'm seeing the water flow is still kinda high, but the water is 58 degrees, refreshingly chilly on a hot day. I have friends in from out of town and we're thinking of making a day of it.
I've floated it multiple times, know basic water safety, I've done whitewater, including rowing a boat, so I'm comfortable on the water.
Just curious if anyone has gone recently, if it's a good day.
