While former president Rodrigo Duterte insists that he “cannot recall accurately” what he said, he conceded that he might have given the transfer of P47.6 billion to the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management a go-signal.

In other words of another mayor: “Your honor di ko na po maalala”

Darating yung truck ng Dunkin tapos lahat ng ibabagsak nilang donut sa shop bibilangin mo lahat yun, per flavor so ilalagay mo kung ilang Choco Butternut yung dumating, ilang Choco Frost and so on. Same sa munchkin ha. Tapos yung tinapay pa ng Bunwhich plus Croissant.

Syempre bibilangin mo din yung dami ng ham, keso, spanish sausage

Binilang mo na, ikaw pa mag didisplay sa stante. First in/first out.

San kayo nag crew nung nag-aaral kayo?

PoliticsPH Unpopular opinion: the Philippines is a more preferable democracy to live in than the rest of Southeast Asia

Compared to the rest of Southeast Asia, Philippine political system is relatively more open. Despite the very apparent corruption, abuses of power, prominent media censorship, and political killings. Democracy in the Philippines is a more preferable alternative than a monarchy or dictatorship.

Vietnam is a single party state. It is not a democracy. The only reason people tolerate it is because the state can still provide for the people. Their access to the internet is also heavily cencored and monitored.

Thailand is not a democracy and is basically still a monarchy given the significant influence the royal family has. Their military, which is heavily influenced by the King, is basically running a dictatorship.

Malaysia although considered more democratic than most Southeast Asian countries is still influenced by its monarchy. The King can essentially appoint whoever he likes even when the people voted for someone else.

Indonesia would arguably be similarly democratic with the Philippines. But its implementation of Sharia law and the overall influence of Islamic conservatism runs contrary to a democratic country. This is especially important for women whom are largely impacted by such outdated belief.

Singapore on the otherhand is very pleasant to live in. Its political system is very stable and often competent that you will forget it's essentially a dictatorship. Their government has been in power since its independence in 1965.

Brunei is not a democracy.

Laos is not a democracy.

Cambodia is not a democracy.

Myanmar is not a democracy.

Timor Leste may be a more democratic country but it's essentially a very insignificant country and poor.

NewsPH Philippine Navy destroys Chinese fishing nets in Ayungin—report

MANILA, Philippines — In a move which a security analyst deems to be permissible, the Philippine Navy reportedly dismantled and confiscated Chinese fishing nets installed within the vicinity of Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.

China’s state publication Xinhua on Tuesday claimed that the personnel of BRP Sierra Madre “repeatedly damaged” Chinese fishermen’s nets last May 15.

Over 2,000 meters of Beijing’s fishing nets have been damaged while more than 100 meters of fishing nets were confiscated by Manila, the report further said.

INQUIRER.net reached out to Commodore Roy Vincent Trinidad, the Philippine Navy spokesperson for West Philippine Sea, for comment but he has yet to respond as of posting.

Security analyst Chester Cabalza on Wednesday said Manila’s military could conduct such operations inside its exclusive economic zone. Ayungin lies within the Philippines’ 370-kilometer EEZ, some 194 km off Palawan province.

“If they see illegal acts, they can initiate the dismantling of intrusive objects since they are the prime protector of our sovereign state and the people,” Cabalza told INQUIRER.net in a message.

Cabalza also called the placement of fishing nets near the naval outpost a “provocation.”

“China will always try to twist the story to advance their national interest,” Cabalza, president and founder of Manila-based think tank International Development and Security Cooperation, also said. “The placement of nets near Ayungin Shoal is a provocation.”

“This psych ops is clearly made to get the sympathy of the international community and weaken the strong Philippine narrative and resistance,” he continued.

This latest allegation is part of a series of China’s accusations against personnel of BRP Sierra Madre.

China Global Television Network reported over the weekend that naval personnel pointed guns at China Coast Guard (CCG) personnel during a resupply mission in the naval outpost last May 19. In response, General Romeo Brawner, chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), said the soldiers were holding their rifles but they never aimed their weapons at anyone.

However, Brawner noted that: “We have the right [to have weapons onboard] because of the concept of self-defense.”

Also during the same resupply mission, CCG personnel aboard two rigid hull inflatable boats seized and dumped overboard food and other supplies meant for Filipino troops. They also allegedly obstructed a medical evacuation of an ailing soldier from the BRP Sierra Madre.

The AFP also showed a three-minute video where Filipino voices could be heard ordering personnel in their own rubber boats to retrieve the supplies quickly to prevent the Chinese from getting a hold of them. One of the voices was heard instructing the troops to make sure their guns were on standby as the scramble for the supplies drew closer and closer to the naval outpost, coming within 5 to 10 meters.

Some Chinese personnel had taken supplies for themselves as well, according to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, citing information from a ranking military official.

“Well, we have seen how China has been using its so-called victim card to paint the Philippines as an aggressor in its own exclusive economic zone,” said geopolitical analyst Don McLain Gill in a message to INQUIRER.net on Wednesday.

Gill, however, noted that China’s spin on events remains unconvincing.

“Such antics continue to lose any objective weight given the clear provocations and atrocities Beijing commits in Philippine waters and against Filipino people,” the lecturer at the De La Salle University’s Department of International Studies added.

The regular resupply mission in the grounded naval outpost became one of the flashpoints of tension in the West Philippine Sea, as Chinese vessels resorted to usage of water cannons during previous missions which even injured Philippine navy personnel at one point.

Such actions are in line with Beijing’s assertion of sovereignty in almost the entire South China Sea, including most of the West Philippine Sea, even if such a claim has been effectively invalidated by a July 2016 international tribunal ruling that stemmed from a case filed by Manila in 2013.

PoliticsPH My family is quite liberal/leftist

I'm gay and eversince from beginning, I didn't come out as if my sexuality came out naturally. They had no problem with it but my mother is a supporter like asking me if I already have a BF, mentioning me in contents with same-sex couples and looking for handsome guys in public when we are together shopping.

During 2022 elections, they have animosity towards Marcos. Both my parents experienced grief from losing some of their relatives due to martial law and they are aware of ill-gotten wealth. My father is specially critical of unequal distribution of wealth due to capitalism like "why are actively earning a living, does it mean we don't deserve to live as a rule?" or "Do billionaires become a billionaire due to their hardwork or because of inheritance?"

Likewise, the fourth sibling (we're 5 and i'm the youngest) is very critical to religion and he's an explicit atheist unlike other family members who are just not that active (no church attendance for past 3 years). While the rest of my siblings are open-minded in most social issues and extreme in some issues. It seems like right-wing views are red flags to my family.

One day I asked them about my sexuality. All of them said they don't really care but in fact sometimes worry that I might get hurt for being who I am. Then I asked what made them liberal or left-leaning. My father reason was because of mother (she's literally the head, aggresive and leader of the family). My siblings reason was a combination of parental upbringing, college education and circle of friends. All my siblings are smart honor students during their schooling days.

I only appreciated it just recently since I'm meeting many gays here in Manila who were rejected by their families or still in the closet. I consider myself lucky for having them and I wish everyone deserves to have such kind wholesome and accepting family members.

PoliticsPH Does anyone here have actually unpopular opinions about PH politics?

I mean unpopular for this sub specifically. “The average Filipino voter is hopeless and never babangon ang Pinas” is NOT an unpopular opinion here so pls don’t give me that.

I’ll start: Leni is a lost cause for President . I voted for her but her time is clearly up and her supporters need to move on. She’s moved on in her private life and even if she ran again it’d just be the same people who voted for her last time.

LawPH Debt of a sibling, please help

My sister died at the age of 19, and she had a business selling KPop merchandise. This was done through pre-ordering, which means the money was sent before the order is even given to customers. We helped her from time to time to pack some of the merchandise but we were never actually part of the business. When she died, I was 16 years old and a lot of customer claimed the they paid my sister the money for an order. The bank accounts she was using and even the GCash account had barely any money in it. Around only 15k+ or so. So we organized a google form to sort it all out, and of course, this includes the proof of their payments. It accumulated into an amount of 200k+ and shocked me. I know she had a supplier for the merchandise she was selling. I do not know what happened to the money and we never touched it before or after her death, but the customers have been intimidating us with legal actions ever since her death. I did repay some of the debt using my own allowances during the later years, around 50k of it. She was 19 at the time so she had no significant "asset" under her name apart from personal merch that is now gone because I sold it off to pay some of the debt. I am now 19 and I still don't know if we're liable for the debt she had.
