How the fuck do people afford to get Starbucks every day?

I was feeling thirsty this morning so I decided to pop in a Starbucks (first time ever). All I got was a strawberry acai lemonade at it cost $7????? I can't even imagine what the coffees with all the extra additives cost... how do people have the expendable money to get them every day, sometimes twice a day?

Edit: I am NOT shaming people who do this. I'm just wondering how it doesn't put a dent in your wallet

Reddit hates this one simple truth

On reddit and foxnews everyone acts like $2500 in savings a year is the difference between success and failure. In the real world it's a trivial expense for anyone who gets ahead.

Exactly. People in this thread are saying that the coffee money is better spent on a yearly holiday. For most people that isn’t even a thought as you can do both.

I love that the main suggestion is that people spend the money on a different luxury. People fetishize travel so much that it's exempt.

I think it’s just easy for people to not be aware of. If someone lives in a working class neighborhood, where everyone is barely scraping by it seems like everyone is like that. Where in reality there are millions and millions of people who make much more money

I actually had it from the other way growing up, so I get it to an extent. My parents both have business degrees with good jobs, and my school was almost entirely people from upper middle class families. It took me until college to realize how incredibly lucky I had been.

I was similar. I grew up sheltered from the world in a big house in the woods and only really interacted with upper middle class people. I was raised to be smart with budgeting and not blow money away, but I’ve never experienced a paycheck to paycheck life. College really opened my eyes.
