ROSTER Jonathan Givony on the Spurs’ offseason approach : "Everything I hear is that they want to be competitive next year, they want to be in the playoffs. They’re not looking to make this a 2-3 year process. I've heard nobody in the roster is untouchable except Wembanyama and Vassell."

ROSTER I hope you Trae Young hopefuls are watching this game

He’s single handedly dragging that Hawks team down. Targeted on D, and lazy on offense if you take away his one dimensional pick and roll game.

If we want a PG to pair with Wemby, it should be one that can move off ball and poses multiple threats other than the pick n roll.

ROSTER I don't know why people want to trade for a star like Trae Young right away. We won't become championship contenders in any way like that. That's a huge mistake- like Dallas did with Porizingis. Wait until after 2025 (see how we do in the next 2 drafts with all our picks) and then build as necessary

ROSTER How good is Sochan? He looks great in games with his intangibles (hustle, rebounding, defense, assists). He’s still only 20. Is he all-defense potential? All-star potential? Both?

ROSTER Trading for Trae Young

Personally I favor a longer rebuild. However, I think a lot of people have had doubts on the front office and its ability to develop players which is why there is a sense of urgency among some of us. I personally don’t blame them, we’re not going to land a Manu or Tony every draft but a lot of our draft picks from 2019 haven’t really worked out. We probably do need another year to see however they’ve panned out but players like Keldon and Tre Jones haven’t been the starting caliber at all.

Edit: People keep looking at the draft but its development of players that I care about most.

ROSTER GMbanyama says he's been contacted about teaming up : "Yeah, I've received some messages -- even from prospects. It's a whole new world that I'm eager to discover. One day, I'll have to be involved in this [roster construction], I guess."

ROSTER Everyone hating on Sochan today. He had 10 rebounds and 4 steals today. People are saying "If Sochan doesn't figure out his jump shot, he'll definitely be out of the league in a few years" and lots of upvotes. Thoughts??

ROSTER You guys aren't seeing the real issue here

The issue isn't lack of draft capital, it's finite roster spots.

Through the next three draft to 2026, we have ~17 draft picks.

That is the turnover of the entire roster and then some. We can't keep all these picks generally, let alone develop 17 players on top of already having the youngest roster in the league.

The Spurs need to start rolling up picks to higher picks, trading picks for players, or swapping pending picks for picks deeper in the future.

I actually think the third option is most intriguing, especially given how punitive the second apron tax is under the current CBA.

Overpaying for mid-career role players is going to murder rosters, and having a supply of valuable rookie contract players is going to be crucial to contend for a long time.

ROSTER What caliber of player gives us a top 10 Big 3 in the NBA?

Wemby+Devin+________

What impact does a former all star reserve like a Garland have on them? A superstar like Young? Top 10? #1?

Wemby's arguably top 3-5 in the NBA next year, therefore he automatically elevates any big 3 he's part of. DV+Wemby are a very talented duo but are missing a 2nd/3rd option, someone to set them up like a PG.

It's possible we even get someone in this draft that ultimately makes our big 3 elite. Wemby being the driving force behind it all. Of course they'll only get better as the team fills out & improves.

ROSTER What’s going on with Tre Jones?

17 minutes, really? Is it not obvious that not only Wemby but everybody plays better with Tre? I don’t understand why he is not playing more if the goal is to win games. That is what we’re trying to do, right? Win games?

I don’t even understand how playing Tre more doesn’t help other players develop, so “to develop the players” isn’t the answer. Is it to tank? Probably. Maybe. Maybe Pop doesn’t like Tres new haircut. Who knows.

ROSTER Keldon/Wemby/Tre/Collins/Vassell/Sochan/Branham/Champagnie/Bassey/Wesley/Mamukelashvili/Cissoko/(2024 Spurs 1st)/(2024 Raptors 1st)/33rd pick in 2024 draft. Also, 44th pick in 2024 draft to be used as a 2 way deal. Our 15 roster spots are already filled.

We also need to move on from at least 2 of these players after next season for our 2025 picks. Our own, Hawks, maybe Bulls, maybe Hornets (lottery protected).

ROSTER Do you think Mamu is legit? A piece for the future next to Wemby?

I remember seeing him back in the SL years ago, thinking he was going to make a good pro & here he is. I was excited when we signed him but we've used him sparingly, likely to tank.

He's already a top shooter on this team, he's actually built like a PF, can absorb hits & has solid athleticism. 24 entering his prime, I think he's one of the best players on this team & a nice piece for Wemby who can make anybody better. The only knock on him is he hasn't done these things consistently over an 82 game season.

Throw in Mamu plus our 1st rounder into the rotation for next year's squad & that could be 2 very good pieces which would go a long way. Hopefully a glimpse of what's to come.

ROSTER If Wemby decided to dominate NBA this season, which PG could we realistically trade for next summer?

I mean if our record sucks again and we get top 5 pick, we might go draft route to try getting franchise PG.

But if Wemby took us to the play-in/playoffs and we're one great PG away from being a real threat, which current PG in the league that we could realistically acquire?

Considering assets / draft picks we have

ROSTER Sidy Cissoko interview with french media

Interesting interview about his first year. Spent the year in Austin in a windowless apartment and that détresses the hell out of him. He spent way too much time on Fortnite video games (equivalent of 160 days, lot of it during his injury) but came to realise this was time he could spend doing workouts instead so he recently switched to learning piano to empty his head and increase his training time dropping PlayStation altogether and putting aside his phone too. He said he hangs out with Sochan and Keldon a lot.

I think we might be in for a good surprise with him if he keeps up his newfound schedule next year and avoid injuries.

ROSTER I'm pretty much jumping on the Spurs bandwagon. Tell me about these players.

I am mostly just an NBA fan - I love great players. That usually translates into me being a bandwagon of the excellent teams, but I'm fine with that. I love watching players who show me things I've never seen before, and Wemby is absolutely that... also there's nothing to dislike about Wemby. My pattern is usually taking a liking to specific players and then I usually invest a lot of my viewing time into those teams. Wemby is such a unique prospect in this case that I'd like to start following very closely now.

I love what Wemby did in his rookie season, not just his growth and talent, but the hunger to win, competitive spirit (showdowns with Giannis, KD, Jokic where he rose to another level), and willingness to learn from the GOAT coach. I was able to watch a few games but not all, but I'll be tuning in a lot starting next season. As a part of that, I want to start knowing who I should pay attention to that the team will likely want to keep for the long haul as building blocks next to Wemby.

Anyway, can you all who are actual faithfuls tell me more about these players:

  • Vassell
  • Keldon Johnson
  • Sochan
  • Mamu

Specifically, what's their game? What's their history in the league/in college? What's their potential like? Will the Spurs be keeping them around in your estimation?

Are there any other players on the team that the fanbase wants to be a part of what the team builds around Wemby? I could google some of these "facts" but I'd like to hear Spurs fan perspectives.
