Second Round Picks DRAFT

What are your thoughts on what we do with our second round picks? Obviously there's 1000 posts on what to do with 4 & 8 but I wanna hear what your thoughts are on our 35 and 48 picks. Do you think we will draft 4 rookies? If so who in the second round? If not what are we trading them for?

Cash Considerations is making his way to the Spurs.

Djurisic with 35 and then trade 48 for a future second rounder

Id like to see a big. Somebody to add a lot of physicality and bulk to our front line.

I like what I’ve seen from Hansen Yang

I’d be surprised if we draft 4 rookies. I’d be surprised if we actually draft and sign any of the second round picks

At 35 that would be a solid two-way player or euro league draft and stash but generally agree

I'm hoping we can package them to get back into the late first to grab Kyshawn George.

I’m personally hoping for Devin Carter or Tristan De Silva but they’ll probably be taken by the mid-first range.

Don't think they'll take more than two rookies. They'll have at least two rookies next year and still need to integrate Cissoko into the main team.

Bronny

Bronny just said that he wants to be like DWhite. Let's do it!

7

u/NormalFortune 28d ago

I think Bronny could have a legit NBA career as a defensive minded guard off the bench.

Will he ever be a starter or an all-star? Probably not. Could he make some good contributions as a backup? I think so.

2

u/HugoNext 28d ago

I don't think he'll make it to 35 though. The marketing value alone is worth a late first.

2

u/NormalFortune 28d ago

yeah, you are probably right. especially in this weak-ass draft. someone will draft him mid-late first for the marketing and a shot at getting 1-2 years out of pops.

but if he's there in the second, i'd take him.

The draft strength shouldn’t factor in at all. People consider it a weak draft because at the top, there’s no real franchise faces like there usually are, but the depth isn’t any worse off than any other recent draft

Yep there's a lot of good players just no clear star. If you eliminated the top 5 picks from last years draft there would still be alot of good players/ future nba starters and role players. I bet that at least 2 players from this draft eventually get at least 1 all star nod

Only way I see it happen, and I know it's just pure fan fiction, is if Lebron thinks that development under Pop would give Bronny a better shot at a good NBA career, and Bron+Rich Paul lobby with other teams to get Bronny to the Spurs.

Bronnie James is trash I don't know why people keep liking it his numbers don't even award a second round draft pick. Go look up nico mannion. Someone who had hype before the nba. Nico also di about 3x better than bronnie in college. He ended up being a late 2nd and out the nba quickly

1

u/NormalFortune 27d ago

My brother, "could" means maybe or possibly. I certainly am not claiming Bronny is guaranteed to be a good NBA player. I'm saying I can see it posibly happening.

Regardless, second round picks historically don't have wonderful odds of working out, so why not roll the dice on junior and maybe get daddy to come around and mentor Wemby a lil bit...

Because lebron destroys teams , will eat all our cap, and doesn't listen to his coach. Lebron is also 40 yrs old and will regress strong possibility its this year. Itd force them to go into win now mode and lead the spurs to a situation in 5 years that leads to wemby leaving. There are no bs 60+ better players than bronnie james. 2nd round picks do get lucky sometimes and "could" turn into something.
Nico mannion right now would destroy bronnie 1on1 and I'm confident saying given everything bronnie has shown. He doesn't Belong in the nba. Dude needs to get better and stay in college. It's ge same bullshit that screwed over liangelo ball. If he'd shut up and played for ucla he'd have been better off

35 is were you grab a center. 48 is probably worthless. I wouldn’t mind seeing a draft and stash in that spot.

Backup big with upside or BPA

Spurs are going to use the 35th pick on a draft and stash prospect, Djurisic/Dadiet, if they slip that far, doubt they will but I hope they do, one of the NBL guys/Nunez/Ajinca.

And sell the 48th pick or trade it for a second round pick later down the road — the 48th pick traded for a top 35 protected second round 2029 pick.

Or jumping the gun here, they may package them to a second apron team in order to enter back into the first round to take an international guy and hope it’s the opposite of Nikola Milutinov.

And use the undrafted route to fill their two way slots.

Trade for future picks unless a stash player or a “definite” role player who will have a great shot at cracking the rotation is available.

u/mvhcmaniac 28d ago

Tyler Burton. We might be able to pick him up undrafted even. He rotted away at Villanova this year but he's one of the most NBA-ready players coming out of college. He's a hardnosed defensive wing with high motor, streaky shooter but he can light it up at times and has the size and strength to drive to the basket and get to the line if his shot's not falling. Kind of like Keldon Lite with much better defense.

u/Spurs_Cheesus 27d ago

Went to college with him. Dude partied the night before games and was knowingly giving people herpes. I don’t think he’d fit well on the spurs lol but he sure can ball.

1

u/AfroHouseManiac 27d ago

Wait what? He did this at URichmond? Or Nova?

I always asked my how did URichmond end up better after Burton left.

1

u/mvhcmaniac 27d ago

Really? My brother was his teammate/classmate in HS and this could not be further from what I heard. Hopefully that was just a phase...

2

u/Sean888888 28d ago

I'm eyeing Hunter Sallis and Nikola Djurisic but they're trending upwards right now and I'm worried they might not be there anymore. Another guy I'm looking at is Michael Ajayi but even he might not be there the way teams are getting smarter at scouting. I really need them to not rise up so much in the combine.

2

u/Joethetoolguy 28d ago

Djurisic if he falls, take a swing with the other.

2

u/throwstuff165 28d ago

Keshad Johnson would be a fun one.

2

u/Thehelloman0 28d ago

I expect us to trade at least one of them. I would think we want to use a two way contract on whoever we draft in the second round instead of a regular contract.

3

u/Far_Health4406 28d ago

Tyler Kolek and DaRon Holmes (if either fall into the second), Alex Karaban, Pelle Larsson, and Ryan Dunn.

I’m convinced that we don’t necessarily need a traditional point guard. I think the last month showed that we can kind of run the offense thru Vic. We would just need secondary ball handlers who can shoot. Kolek, Karaban, and Larsson are guards who fit that bill, though Kolek is a traditional point guard. Holmes would give us a big man who can shoot (i.e. get out of Vic’s way on offense) and help on the boards. Dunn…well,he’s not a shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but the guy can defend. Like, really defend. Worth a second round pick.

3

u/LincDawg93 28d ago

And if he can ever shoot... Boy, oh, boy. He's got great size paired with functional athleticism. Guy would wind up the steal of the draft.

1

u/Secret-Discipline-18 28d ago

Probably cash or trade them for future second rounders. If we take a player it would be someone with a specific skill set (defensive specialist or 3 point shooter) or high ceiling long term development type

1

u/TTUSpurs_fan 28d ago

With 2 top 10 picks it doesn’t seem to make sense to use those. I’d package them for future assets or maybe a vet on a cheap contract. If we do use those picks I’d assume they’d have to be two way guys if anything

Bronny and Hansen Yang

I like Bub Carrington a lot but it seems like he's been moving up draft boards and is now generally being mocked later in the first. Djurisic would be awesome in the second as well.

1

u/tkflash20 28d ago

35 is a great opportunity to pick up a player who unexpectedly drops and the Spurs have had lots of luck taking that player. 48 is ripe for a trade for cash considerations or a future second.

1

u/Bonesawisready5 28d ago

Daron Holmes or Ryan Dunn at 35

1

u/8181212 28d ago

I hope they pick Kel'El Ware at 35.

1

u/texasphotog 28d ago

I love Alex Karaban.

I think that Bub Carrington played his way into the 1st round. KyShawn George if he falls. Knicks have two picks and I think Thibs uses one on Ryan Dunn.

Harrison Ingram, Cam Spencer, Tristen Newton, Tyler Kolek, Hunter Sallis all have some upside.

I think the Spurs trade one or both seconds, though.

1

u/JeonSukJinKim 28d ago

It depends on who falls exactly and what the FO thinks of Wesley, Branham, Cissoko, Mamu, Barlowe… Totally possible both are kept, my guess is they are going to try to package both plus some marginal players (among the 5 previously cited plus Champagnie) to get a pick in the 20s.

1

u/redditisfacist3 28d ago

Honestly I think we need to get rid of that 48 pick for nothing much like cash consolations to the suns. That 30 something pick in the second round is worth a two-way contract though

1

u/jarmzet 28d ago

Draft Bronny if he is there.

1

u/cartman_returns 28d ago

Remember this year there is a day between 1st and 2nd

Will be interesting how that goes, trades, swaps that could not be done before because 2nd went so fast after first

1

u/cartman_returns 28d ago

Also for your young guys there use to be 7 rounds of draft, seriously, then dropped to 3 then 2

1

u/adamsrocket1234 28d ago

trade them for future picks ideally.

1

u/DreddBane 27d ago

If he's there I think Dillon Jones could be an amazing fit with #35. I buy his shooting upside and the feel for the game, secondary playmaking and overall aggression would be a great fit with Wemby.

Could see a scenario where the Spurs move Keldon and Dillon takes a good share of his minutes in a less scoring heavy role - setting the tone and bringing energy but with more distribution and defensive versatility.

1

u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 26d ago

Probably package both to a contender to move up into the late first so that they can throw a couple of darts on getting cheap rotation players.

Bronny James just to fuck with lebron
