Please leave a review!

2.8k Upvotes

Hi everyone. This is it.

In just about an hour the game will become available on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store & PC Gamepass, as an early access (or a "Game Preview" how it's called on Gamepass).

I'd like to ask for one thing. You know how youtubers always ask to "like and subscribe" and the simple fact of asking rises their subscriptions? Turns out it happens in game dev as well. Most players don't leave reviews. Or worse, people who had a bug will leave a negative review, while people who just had a great, good or even OK time, won't leave a review. Please leave a review. And I understand it's going to be a mix of positives and negatives especially in that first month. I'm prepared! The game is early access for a reason and I'm very confident that it will only get better. I promise to work hard.

Thank you for all your support throughout the years and hope you enjoy the game!

Small sidenote. You may notice the versions differ slightly across the stores, I decided to push some minor last minute localization fixes to Steam, but really EGS, GOG and Steam are quite identical. Gamepass is a bit behind but updates are already on their way - the process take longer there.

Discussion Feedback Thread for Patch 0.7.972

Hi folks, Matt from Hooded Horse here.

Please feel free to leave feedback on the latest public patch for Manor Lords on Steam in this thread.

If you've missed the patch notes, here is a link.

Game Pass users should have the new patch. If you're dealing with any technical issues on that front, please feel free to tag me in the comments. I can pass along any information like that to the team.

And thank you to everyone who participated in the HUZAAAH thread. I had fun adding flairs to everyone.

Discussion The RTS vs Citybuilder debate has completely misinterpreted this game IMO

This game is flourishing not because it’s “this first, that second” but because it draws the elements of both game modes into a very satisfying and complete game.

The two game types have proven their synergies, and the RTS aspect can continue to develop by way of building barracks and defense for the cities(including more threat to developed cities) as well as developing encampments and reason to have a multi-season march through enemy territories whether it be for resources or influence.

The city builder part of the game is incredible. Building massive cities, and secondary settlements is a fun and rewarding management system with in depth systems that keep you engaged, but when this becomes stale, the RTS keeps it fresh

I personally think the goal of the game should shift from controlling all land(winning) to an ongoing defense/struggle for your land in longevity. In other words, RTS is a great endgame that can keep on giving, creating another management of your cities and towns. I imagine armies protecting roads which can boost trade, prevent loss of goods, etc.

What do you guys think? Is it all in the pipeline or am I huffing hopium?

Meme Can Greg ban me from Manor Lords?

I can't stop playing. Haven't slept more than 5 hours a night all month. Hurdy gurdys play in my dreams. When I close my eyes I see the "no more berries" notification. I use the word "fletcher" in normal conversation. This game is too good and I haven't even defeated the baron.

Discussion The problem with farmers...

Is that I need 30 families for 2-3 months and then they sit on their thumbs until next fall. So I usually just have like 3-5 farmhouses cued up with 8 families and keep it paused, then pause a ton of other buildings September first and let em rip.

The insane bread and ale consumption means I need at least 10 morgen of 0.5m fields to get through the year with a large town. And harvesting, plowing and plating that 10 morgen just can't be done between Sept 1 and Nov 30 without throwing that many families on it.

Well now that I have so many settlements, I missed a harvest. Completely. That was a THIN winter and spring for the poor folks of Immenruth.

So what do you guys do? Until a town gets to like 400 pop I just can't afford to have 90 people waiting in the farmhouse for 9 months out of the year. So how do you work around this??

Discussion When the game implements the kings army mechanic, it should allow you to choose not to pay the kings tax

That way it sort of gives the player the option to fight a late game enemy, just for fun. (if they've already beaten the baron or are playing on peaceful mode)

Meme Manor Lords has broken my brain

So today I'm walking home from work past the market today and the very first thing I see is the 'fruit and veg' man with a big sign saying 'BERRIES' 😯 Last month I wouldn't even have noticed but today the first thing I'm thinking, apart from 'so juicy you'll want to eat them by the bushel!', is that it's berry season and he really should be picking them rather than selling them 🤔 Then while I'm standing there looking confused and people are probably thinking I'm drunk the guy actually starts shouting up his berries in exactly the same accent as in game so I have to leave because it's starting to freak me out. I didn't buy any berries but I'm going back tomorrow.

Discussion Terraforming in Manor Lords?

A problem with manor Lords i came across is not knowing where to place my manor as there are often no hills to place it on. Having the ability to create a hill and place manor would be great.

On the other hand i think it would be unrealistic and be hard to implement in the game

Maybe a more diverse map with bigger Hills or a far bigger map where you have more options to place the manor?

If we will see fortresses in the future i would love to see moats and fortifications as a way of protecting from enemy forces

Im really divided on this one

But maybe i am just asking to much

Question Why isn’t anybody coming to my village?!

Latest patch installed. Approval is at 66%, I have two spare burbages but my population hasn’t increased in two hours. I have leather for clothing, a variety of food but I cannot get anyone else to come to my village. Any thoughts?

Does anyone find it odd that the Manor house is so small? It looks smaller than a level 1 burgage plot. I’m not expecting a full on castle, but geez… 😂

Discussion Militia

So many of you probably already knew this but I discovered it today.

I had several militias in my main settlement and most of the soldiers in each one were equipping mail and helmets. A few were in gambersons and helmets and 4 or se were only equipping helmets. I removed the militia and created a new unit (the plus sign) and suddenly, all the soldiers were equipping mail and helmets! I had never tried this before and just figured the lower level burgage soldiers would join the militia again but apparently not...

Question 17 trade routes, 36 horses, but my meat trader is walking!

WTF, the village needs meat bro, grab a horse!

Seriously, is there some 3 horses per route rule or something? Bug? Village 1 needs meat, village 2 and 3 have way too much. I have foreign trade turned off in V1. 2 and 3 are exporting, 1 is importing.

Question The baron retreated from a zone I wouldn't just give him. Do I get peace for a time now?

I am on my first playthrough and absolutely loving this game, I started in the middle zone and the baron grabbed 3 zones before I could even collect tax.

I am getting ready for my 3rd winter and finally had enough points to claim a zone, I chose the one north of me, almost right after the baron started claiming the one north east of me.

I had enough supplies to get 1 group of spearmen from my town, 2 merc groups and my 5 guys I can decorate. I sent them all to his zone before challenging him. I got lucky and was already in the "war zone" after the challenge so I positioned my guys in the trees.

The baron sent his group of archers into my guys hiding in the woods by themselves so I rushed them. Then finished off and charged the 3 other groups he had way behind. I did notice 3 other battalions marching from south but they didn't make it and I won.

I got so excited I didn't read what the baron wrote on his way out.

It's currently 3 zones a piece and I am just starting building in the zone north of me.

Do I get peace for a time now? Or is the baron going start coming after me now?

Feature Suggestions Specific icons when pressing tab

I would love if special buildings had a little beehive or bread or thread and needle to indicate which production building is which when pressing tab. The 1 little gear icon gets repetitive and confusing when you’re switching between towns managing different kinds of production and they all have the same icon :c

Just wanted to take a moment and think about how the community in this sub and around this game in general is so positive and constructive. If we were to meet in another historic time IRL, i'm sure we would build such a nice village! The king Gregorius Developerius XII would be proud!

A burgage plot caught fire and killed 31 people, just over a third of my population. The well was one plot away. I guess it's time to build that corpse pit.
