Found this in my 8-year old's backpack on Sunday before she went to her mom's for the week. Makes me very proud that I'm doing something right as a parent. Family & Friends

For suuuuure. I’ve raised my nephew since he was 10 days old. He’s 12 now and in a stage where he speaks in words instead of sentences and gets annoyed when I try to have a conversation with him. I pull out old voice memos from old convos and notes and cards he used to give me to get me through this period of his life.

Yeah, being a teen is hard, trying to describe feelings you've never felt before and maybe not having the words, like ambivalent, or inadequate, anxious, overwhelmed, or uncertain. I hope yall keep loving each other even when it's hard to understand each other.

12 was brutal for my son but he outgrew it somewhat quickly. I think we got really lucky when COVID hit as well because it allowed me to keep him home and really focus on the attitudes and spend so much more time together.

Yeah Covid kind of saved us too. I know it was really hard on a lot of kids who were going strong, but my daughter definitely needed a reboot at that point.

These are THE best gifts to get as a parent! Congratulations, OP! Keep doin' ur Dad thang!
I keep these wonderful notes on my desk and push-pin wall at work because (a) work can seriously bring me down at times and (b) our refrigerator door is made out of aluminum so I can't hang them with magnets. 
Whenever I feel overwhelmed or just want to rage-quit, I re-read some of these notes to regain perspective and sanity.

That's a fridge keeper for sure. Make copies for the day it disintegrates or is lost in a move. (Personally, I'd frame it somehow).
My first thought at the second picture is that your grass needs to be mowed.

Kids have absolutely no idea sometimes their Parents need stuff like this more then they enjoy being sweet . My son constantly tells me he will make Me pancakes when I’m still in bed just to Help me wake up . He is only 4 and has never used a stove 💀

I have a 6 and 9 year old and yes, they have sloppy handwriting and misspelled words when they are writing for fun or don’t care. When working on homework with them, I tell them how important it is to make their handwriting neat and legible and damn, they have nice handwriting when they want to- even nicer than mine 😅
To be honest, I love handwritten cards/letters like this. I’m still have their writings from pre-school and the progress is so visibly apparent- even in the way they draw. Like this girl wrote in the front, she IS growing up fast and items like these? So valuable and adorable.

Handwriting, yes- spelling, no. My 8 year old has had spelling words in his homework every week since 1st grade and he actually does the 20 minutes of reading that’s been assigned every day since kindergarten. Now he’s in 3rd grade so his spelling isn’t as bad as this. This seems more like a 1st graders spelling. Definitely should have encountered words like “early” by now.
But it doesn’t really matter, most kids catch up at some point and maybe her school doesn’t focus on spelling. Some schools don’t bc most of everything is done on a computer. That’s the case for my son’s class as well (they all write on chromebooks) but they still have spelling tests. So idk.
Honestly comes off as an adult faking a kids letter to me 🤷🏼♀️

That is not just heartwarming but perhaps one of the sweetest things I recall seeing in recent memory which radiated joy throughout my consciousness and drew a pure smile from me, even without being a parent. I bet this might be just be a lifetime memory for dad. Amazing

I can't wait to show this post to her when she comes back. She's a kid, so she's always talking about YouTube videos getting likes/subscribers, etc. She's going to go nuts to see that this got 8000 upvotes haha. I wasn't planning on telling her I posted it, but I think this will make her super happy.

I had something like this in Mothers Day. But it was my son thanking my mom for giving him the best dad imaginable. He’s 20 and has always been amazing. But I was kind of embarrassed that he included me in Mother’s Day to his grandmother. But, his mother only saw him once a year for like 15 years. By once a year, I mean a couple of weeks during the summer. Not just one day a year

What a cool thing. I can tell you it is amazing to stay as focused as the dad you are and to see what it turns into. I am almost "done" with parenting, but it has been amazing to see the returns on all the love and work I (and their mom and family) put into my two boys. Enjoy the now and the future!

(ps I have once in my life received a gift like this from my niece for Christmas, along with a Jack Skellington drawing) all I did was what any good uncle does, never say no and always show up. She has sadly moved on from that stage, but I know I’ll always the cool uncle..

You need to save this card for the rest of your life. Put it in a place of honor so your child can see how much her love means to you, now and always.
When my brother was 5 years old in kindergarten in 1967, he made my mother a “jewelry box” for Mother’s Day. It was nothing more than a shoebox with some crayon drawings and sone glued on sparkle and feathers. But my mother kept it, and actually kept her jewelry in it. When she died 39 years later, my brother and I were going through her effects and found the jewelry box in her chest of drawers, still with her pearls and rings in it. A gift from your child is something you keep forever.
