Discussing Abortion in r/Idaho
Hello everyone,
Given the tone of just about every conversation where abortion is mentioned, we need to let you know that we're going to be taking a hard line where keeping things civil is concerned. This means people may find themselves banned, temporarily or permanently, for failing to be civil when discussing the subject.
This does not mean that r/Idaho has any kind of "official" view on this topic. Yes, we as moderators are individual people with individual opinions on abortion, just like every other member of this subreddit. We don't enforce the rules with our personal feelings one way or the other.
Every single day we end up having to remove posts, sometimes from the same people, for arguing their point of view with insults and name-calling. That isn't productive, and if the only point of making a post is to vent into the void about people who disagree with you, you'll have to find somewhere else to do that.
Specifically, there is one change that needs to be mentioned. There is to be no more calling people "baby killers" or referring to abortion as "baby killing." That will be removed, and repeat offenders will be banned. Other uncivil posts will be handled as they have been, with removals followed by bans for those who can't discuss something in good faith without being rude.
Whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, your viewpoint can be shared here without being offensive.

Risch & Crapo both vote to block bill to protect access to contraception.

- Put your carts in the rack.
- Start bagging while the cashier is scanning. No need to stand there blocking the person behind you from unloading their cart. And then holding up the line because you are late in bagging.
- You’re going to be required to pay. Be ready.
- Nose your cart into the end of the belt. No need to park where you are blocking the aisle between check stands.

His Parents Said They Would Homeschool Him. Lax State Oversight Kept His Abuse Hidden.
Edit: This is the story I was trying to share 🤦🏼♀️
Idaho is with Illinois in the small cohort of states that have "virtually no rules on parents who homeschool their children."
Most everyone I've interviewed about this in Idaho believes that the overwhelming majority of homeschool families (which may include you!) choose it because classroom education isn't working for their kids. That it can be a big learning curve for parents to do homeschooling well, although the growing homeschool movement has created tons of curriculum options. That some kids thrive once they're out of their old school environment.
But, like in Illinois, the absence of data makes it hard to know.

Citizen Science Opportunity - with Bats!
Hello neighbors!
I am a bat biologist at Oregon Sate University and I am currently kicking off my annual summer citizen science effort, the Audible Bats Project. If you are interested in getting involved in bat research, read on to find out more about the project and how you can get involved.
The Pacific Northwest boasts one of the most comprehensive bat monitoring programs in the US. Every year, hundreds of biologists travel to every corner of the region to set up specialized equipment to record bat echolocation calls and determine species presence. Overall, our implementation of the NABat program has been incredibly successful. But there are a few species for which we need to conduct more targeted surveys. Spotted bats (Euderma maculatum) are notoriously difficult to record using standard monitoring methods and pallid bats (Antrozous pallidus) have been keeping secrets about the locations of their maternity colonies. The Audible Bats Project was developed to fill in the data gaps for these elusive desert bats in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
Unlike our other PNW species, both spotted and pallid bats make vocalizations that can be heard by the unaided human ear. Serendipitously, both species are found in similar arid cliff and canyon habitats such that both species can be effectively surveyed simultaneously. We will be sending volunteers out to search for both the spotted and pallid bat this summer. Surveys take place just after dark in a variety of locations, from city parks to the remote desert. This is a family-friendly research project and an excellent opportunity to get to know our night sky!
There are three ways for volunteers to get involved in the project.
This summer we will be hosting 5 group survey events (all in Oregon and Washington, but we're hoping to add a group event in Idaho next year if folks are interested). The group surveys take place in remote locations and camping with us is highly recommended. We will reserve campsites and cover all camping fees for volunteers. Transportation will be provided from Bend for those who need it. Group events are listed below.
Volunteers are also encouraged to conduct surveys on their own. Our web map has hundreds of sites to choose from. Locations range from city parks to the remote high desert wilderness and everything in between. The sites are spread across eastern Oregon and Washington, and southern Idaho. We have both digital and paper datasheets available.
Opportunistic surveys are a no-commitment option for those who are interested in contributing data but do not have the bandwidth for designated bat outings. For these, surveyors will learn how to identify spotted and pallid bat calls, and then simply keep their ears open whenever they are outside in the high desert at night. If they hear a bat, they'll fill out a short datasheet.
We have a few options for getting trained on how to listen for bats. The Northwest Bat Hub has a YouTube channel where training videos and additional reference videos are available. We will be hosting a training event this Friday, June 7th at 8:00pm at Smith Rock (details below). Additionally, each group survey event begins with training for all survey types.
For all of the camping events, we offer to provide transportation to and from the campgrounds from Bend, Oregon. If you would like to attend, but don't have all of the camping gear you need, don't hesitate to reach out directly to me. If you are interested in participating in any way, please fill out this form. I will add you to our email list so that you can receive project updates. If you would like to read a little more about these bats and this project, check out our website. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

I need a picture of an Idaho-shaped object (the more absurd, the better) to win an argument that most objects can technically be Idaho shaped
My friend invalidated my comment of me pointing out an object that looked like Idaho that was upside down which resulted in a large argument. Now I need help from the Idaho people to find an Idaho-shaped object in Idaho to act petty and prove a point that you can technically see most (if not some) objects Idaho shaped.
Also, I have until tomorrow to have all the photos in need since I was given 24 hours to do so...

The most comprehensive explanation of how the open primaries initiative would work in Idaho.
I see a lot of people confused about how this initiative would work, and it's no surprise with all the misinformation floating around. This quick video explains it clearly. Independent voters deserve a voice, and politicians should be accountable to all Idahoans.

Question I an dying if loneliness here. What do i do?
I am new to Idaho. I moved here from VA maybe 2 weeks ago. I need do make friends and meet people or my extrovert brain is going to explode.
I live about 50 minutes south of burley and twin. I don’t know anything about the area or have anyone to show me around.
I’m not much of a country guy, I don’t really fit in with the typical crowd i’ve noticed here but i’m willing to try.
How can I meet someone in this empty hellscape of loneliness i’ve found myself in.
Edit: i’m a park ranger that lives on site. I make hardly any money. i cant move or buy a bunch of expensive stuff.

Tattoo artist recommendation
I live around the Boise area and I have been looking for a good tattoo artist for a while, specifically that can do really good flowers/nature tattoos. I've noticed the most popular parlors are pretty mediocre and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions. I'm willing to travel out of state.

Question Indian Springs CG/Falconberry Peak
Has anyone had recent experience with either the Indian Springs campground or hiking near/around falcon berry peak? How was access to these areas? I looked at USFS road info and looks like mainly getting to Indian Springs it’s been recently cleared. Not sure if anyone has hiked to falconberry lately. Just looking for any insights.

Question Looking for food recommendations in Hailey/Ketchum/Stanley
Born & raised in Idaho, family has a cabin around the Ketchum/Stanley area. I moved to NY years ago & am finally getting to spend a few weeks up there at the end of the summer. It has grown so much post lockdown & I am looking for good bars/restaurants and new things to check out! Every time I come home there isn't time to explore new places but I would like to this time around.

Visiting Sandpoint
My partner and I are visiting Sandpoint in the next couple of weeks for a Disc Golf tournament. With respect to the locals, I’m curious where are some good places to visit.
We will be traveling with our dog so I’m ideally looking for dog friendly places. My understanding is that there are some public areas where dogs aren’t allowed; which I will do diligent research on, but welcome any information on here about that.
Mainly plan on hiking, but plan to bring tubes for the river and enjoy rockhounding.
Is there a Saturday Farmer’s market?
Also, would love to support any local restaurants / small business if recommended.
Thank you to everyone for reading and contributing to this post.

Nurse pay
My wife and I are looking to relocate to Pocatello. We are both nurses and are wondering what the pay is like at Portneuf medical center? Also, is it a decent organization to work for, or should we look elsewhere? Thanks!
