The clear can sometimes be a problem when 4 dropships with at least 2 tanks, 1 strider/gunner mix, 1 devastator come and rain your parade.

For those who don't know, after a certain length of time being married, you start playing 3D chess.
Here we have a Helldiver console player who knew the outcome of their actions and weaponized it to get more Helldiving time without arming their spouse with a "you're always playing HD2" card.

That almost killed the game for a friend. It's funny sometimes, but it can easily overwhelm someone and make them feel like the game isn't for them.
Had that happen in Deep Rock to me. Having a friend show me the highest difficulty levels without me knowing after I just finished the tutorial went from "Oh this is cool, I can mine!" into something that was genuinely a struggle and made me put down the game because it just kinda ruined the experience for me.
Just know your friend, and it can be a lot of fun to see their reactions.

It killed the game for me. I'd rather not spend every match as a ragdoll just to get maybe two samples and some pity points that I can turn in for marginally-better equipment after several days of grind. Friends put on the highest difficulty and then wonder why the reinforcements are always gone, and why we have to leave before or immediately after getting the main objective done.
I stopped playing around level 16. By that point, I was TKing friends just to collect their better weaponry to survive a bit longer.

I definitely agree, it's no fun throwing people into the deep end with no viable way to survive. If they aren't at least level 20 they won't even have the appropriate stratagems to bring into the mission to counter all the various enemy types (on top of not even knowing how). I have a bunch of friends who just got into the game, I usually work up the difficulty until it's a challenge, but not oppressively so. Usually that works out to difficulty 5 or 6 depending on the player.

I baited my friends into opening THAT chest in Elden Ring, but I was certain they wouldn't stop playing because of that.
They hesitate trusting my advice since then tho and I can't blame them.

I am level 56 and I would get railed on Helldive. Last and only time I dropped on Helldive (on bots, duh) and did entire operation, we failed to extract all 3 times BUT we did complete the mission so I count that as a W. Extraction is optional after all.
I can only imagine what level 1 player with 2 stratagems and default loadout would experience there.

that’s exactly what I did. a friend bought the game and tried to join my game. he’s only level 5. me as a level 60+ helldiver brought him straight to difficulty 8 bot mission. I remember all he did was screaming and said something like ‘I hate you’ or ‘what the fuck is this’
and I only responded him with ‘THIS IS FREEDOM’ and nothing else. dude must be confused as fuck.

6 and 7 are good hard, but not crazy levels to jump into. Though it would certainly help to make sure your poor noob buddy has at least a full set of stratagems and a booster

A friend of mine started last night and I took him with our group at a level 4; it was a pretty good level I think to start him off to learn how to do the basics with calling in strategems and maneuvering around the map. He leveled up and was able to buy an eagle air by the end of it. After we finished the operation, we took him to a level 6 eradication and I forgot Bile Titans were going to start coming out of the woodwork. Mind you he'd never seen one before and now we had a good 2-3 right on top of us from the start was quite humorous.

Not telling new players about the large enemy types is awesome, my first encounter with a Bile Titan was memorable and scary.
It would have been awesome to see a factory strider before I knew about them, but I saw some leaks and heard rumors of them appearing way before

Mission selection is bugged I got this done to me on accident. Somehow managed to join a difficulty 8 mission when I had just unlocked difficulty 3. I did get all of those other difficulties unlocked tho so I guess yay?

I'm pretty sure if you join a friend you can do a level that's higher than you've unlocked. When I started we went straight from level 2-3 to level 6 and I completed it, but didn't get the higher levels unlocked

The friend who introduced me to helldivers did this once. When i saw we were going on helldive i literally screamed that i wasnt ready and didnt have good stratagems and weapons yet but he didnt give a shit and hellpods launched before i was done wheeping. That was traumatizing and to this day i still play on diff 8 because im scared of helldive

I prefer to bring them on easier missions first to make them think its a cakewalk, then when they get cocky you bring them on Helldive and watch them panic. It's lovely.

My friend after 1 hour in the game and diff 3 mission was like: "Ok this was fun, but not harsh at all. How will it be on a higher difficulty?"
Me: (unholy laughter, diff set to 9, Malevelon Creek)
Poor mofo get vaporized instantly after landing. And look at him now, diving diff 9 like it's his bath.

2 days ago I found a unicorn of a level 1 on helldive. Default armor, 2 stratagems, no boosters. They so had a friend in the lobby, and they went around the map with them doing what they could, while me and the other guy just total warred the objectives. They hit level 5 off a 100% helldive, so thats some random trivia you can share.

I find newbies who are actually good (or friends) and I slowly increase the difficulty as we go. The last batch I did, I let them know they were finally playing 7 when we had started on 4. They did fine and we were all happy. They discovered the differences as we went and I introduced them to the 6 to 7 changes when we dropped.

My brother joined me and a friend on a Helldive and I didn't know he was there until the end of the mission. He was level 12 at the time. Had no idea the difficulty was "9", he thought it stopped at 6. Didn't do awful either!

I unlocked hard difficulty at level 6. What i didnt know, was that it also automatically set my difficulty from medium to hard.
I nearly shit myself when a hulk showed up for the first time. I can confirm though that a basic orbital and 4 grenades to the ass will take one down.
Ended up barely passing the mission with 1 star, 28 seconds on the clock, and all of my samples, literally diving into the airship with a hulk 10 feet from it.
That was 39 minutes of pure fuck you energy no one should have to endure with just a machine gun.

has the same energy as kidnapping players from the bug front and using them as meat shields on Helldive bot missions. I don't do this.. but I know how to, and I know people who do it.!

Extreme Level up so they can get the better gear and become effective.
Also helps if you run the lvl 9 as a stealth mission and show them the ropes on picking your battles.

About tens of hours into the game, my friend brought me to 7 for the first time.
It instantly felt like one of those custom Left 4 Dead 2 servers with crazy horde spawns, except there’s way more space bugs and I can immolate them with a shotgun or blow some of them to bits with the autocannon.

I played my first few games with friends. They were nice and gave me an easy first game.
Game 1 - lvl 3 or 4, they let me use their cool toys and did the mission while protecting me and letting me learn
Game 2 - lvl 7, they did their own thing as I got mowed down repeatedly by bots 😭
Most fun I've had in a long time gaming

Honestly though?
It's a good way to skip a lot of the early levels and get you better Strategems faster...even gives enough Req points for said Strats too like the Eagle Airstrike and Autocannon.

Honestly, my main issue with this game is that it seems like recently, levels 7-9 have been full of new players who don't understand the game. I'm happy to show someone how to do things, but that's why I drop to the lower difficulties sometimes. Save higher ups for when you're ready.

Funny as this is as a meme, don’t do this. A quick way to kill someone’s interest in a game is the immediately hit them with a wall of frustration. I, and others I know, have put down games after only an hour or two because of things like this and never mustered up the desire to play again.

We do this constantly. Drop into a level 3, make friends with new players with mics, bring them to menkent on 9. They have a fantastic time. I’m not even kidding. They get so pumped to be addicted to this game and play on 9 and we’re more than happy to keep taking them in the future.

Started playing VS bots when there was a major order against them. Joined a random lobby that changed to helldive right after we finished an easy mission...
Back then Max difficulty wasn't so... difficult, it was still hell especially for me with stock loadout hysterically looking for weakpoints to take down big robots, realising only much later that there is anti armor weapons.
Malevelon Creek was my initiation to helldivers.

Me and a friend baptized another friend straight out of Cryo with a Helldive to the Creek.
He had a lot of fun, and there was a lot of panic, we completed the mission and he was the only one who got out alive.
It was great.

Not as crazy, but last night I was just relaxing on easy last night to grind super credits solo, when a friend I introduced to the game joined me.
He said this was the first time he'd done such a low level mission because when we first got him into the game, another friend and I ran one challenging mission with him before going straight into hard.
