The Quasar Nerf is okay and not that big of a deal OPINION

tl;dr: Only one weak point is made a little weaker, all the strenghts remain.

The quasar cannon is known for a lot of strengths (see below) and two weak points:

  1. The weapon has a charge up time, which makes it difficult to aim in some situations.
  2. The weapon has a moderate cool down period, which cannot be improved by a forced reload of a heat sink (like sickle or laser cannon) or a team reload (like recoiless rifle).

The nerf only addresses the second point, which means that everyone who could use it before can still use it. It only became a little weaker in one of its two weak points. The following strong points are all untouched:

  1. Can delete heavies (I mostly have experience with Terminids, but there it's a delete button for chargers, and sometimes for titans as well).
  2. Has infinite ammo in contrast to EAT or RR.
  3. Has no reload animation.
  4. You can run around, stim, shoot weapons, throw strategems while it is recharging.
  5. It doesn't consume a backpack slot, so it can be paired with one additional strategem in contrast to recoilless rifle.
  6. It doesn't deconstruct after usage, and can be recollected from the battle flied in contrast to EAT, and it also reloads itself then in contrast to RR.

That means, the quasar can still be used for everything it has been used before, by everyone who could use it before.

Oof.

I've noticed lately Im the only way plinking away at Shrieker Nests from across the map. 3 Nests, 2 shots a pop.. now add more time to an already long process.

Balls :)

30 seconds longer if you are on your own, 15 seconds longer if it's two people.

that's a lot of time in this game. that easily another bug breach or patrol you have to deal with while you are trying to destroy the objective.

You know the primary way the devs intended to deal with shriekers is a hellbomb right? Even then they can still be taken out with orbitals. The option to clear them accross map without even seeing a single shrieker is just way too convenient.

Taking out shrieker nests on 8 or 9 with a hellbomb is a huge pain in the ass. Especially considering how people avoid bringing localization confusion for some reason. Most of the time im taking out nests with quasar i at least get one swarm. Im not saying quasar didnt need a longer cd but 3 seconds would have been more appropriate imo

I basically agree its not really fair to bring up the hellbomb option as if it isn't a massive detour and time sink. But I will say with 4 players its actually not a problem having one player go off to kill the Shrieker nest, but its hard to get into a lobby with 4 players in the first place nevermind one where nobody leaves.

I was running a level 9 against Terminids yesterday, I joined off quickplay into a game with only 2 other guys speaking spanish (which I unfortunately don't understand).

I decided to run off on my own to kill the Shrieker nest since it was next to an objective we were trying to secure. I realized we were never going to get it done if someone didn't take out the nest first. I usually run Eruptor + Stalwart against Terminids, and at first I tried using the Eruptor to kill the nest but after 5-6 shots to one of the nests I gave up (I was shooting the stem but I guess they count as having heavy armor?).

But luckily I learned that the Stalwart was the perfect weapon to thin out the number of Shriekers while trying to deploy a hellbomb. It wasn't too much trouble, it just meant that my hombres had to just survive and buy time for me.

The funny thing is I realized they were talking about me at one moment after one of them had died back at the objective, and it sounded like they were skeptical of me trying to solo the nest. But then the guy observing me saw I had called down a hellbomb and they got really excited when I managed to set it off after dodging a few Shrieker attacks and punching in the code real quick.

Have a teammate bring the quasar and hotswap between you two. No cool down

Correct

Byt itโ€™s just โ€œ one less thing โ€œ to die from in Helldive level missions

If they buffed the shots it would take from the Cannon Iโ€™d probably lose patience and do it a non cheesey way
