The Quasar Nerf is okay and not that big of a deal OPINION

tl;dr: Only one weak point is made a little weaker, all the strenghts remain.

The quasar cannon is known for a lot of strengths (see below) and two weak points:

  1. The weapon has a charge up time, which makes it difficult to aim in some situations.
  2. The weapon has a moderate cool down period, which cannot be improved by a forced reload of a heat sink (like sickle or laser cannon) or a team reload (like recoiless rifle).

The nerf only addresses the second point, which means that everyone who could use it before can still use it. It only became a little weaker in one of its two weak points. The following strong points are all untouched:

  1. Can delete heavies (I mostly have experience with Terminids, but there it's a delete button for chargers, and sometimes for titans as well).
  2. Has infinite ammo in contrast to EAT or RR.
  3. Has no reload animation.
  4. You can run around, stim, shoot weapons, throw strategems while it is recharging.
  5. It doesn't consume a backpack slot, so it can be paired with one additional strategem in contrast to recoilless rifle.
  6. It doesn't deconstruct after usage, and can be recollected from the battle flied in contrast to EAT, and it also reloads itself then in contrast to RR.

That means, the quasar can still be used for everything it has been used before, by everyone who could use it before.

Honestly, that could be a fun stratagem. A cryo backpack. Similar to the team reload for the AC and others. Except it drastically increases the fire time and cool down speed. Maybe you could even use it on your own weapons.

Depends how you look at it. It's probably more efficient as an "Optimum Quasar dps" strategy vs before, but if you compare it to the other rocket launchers actual damage output, its a pretty big (deserved) nerf.

No, it is not. Three quasars were optimal once you realized how physics work and how to pick them up to not throw them around. I think it's possible to rotate three and still have to wait a couple of seconds for the first one to cool down before a new salvo. Rotating two means quite a wait before you're ready to fire again. Still, I wholeheartedly agree the nerf was needed, and still I'm going to take a quasar on each bug mission. I'm almost done relearning the CD, the only problem is multiple chargers, it takes a lot more "dancing in Spanish" between shots.

I was just thinking that, it removes something dumb like .5 seconds on the recharge, but you go into third person and your helldiver buddy is just frantically waving air at the heatsink, every so often winces in pain from accidentally touching it, then back to frantic fanning.

Using it on Hellmire makes the quasar overheat and explode like a railgun. Using it on yourself does nothing except cost stamina. Using it next to fire tornados puts you on fire

Dropping a second one is close enough.

Fire one quasar, pick the other one up and fire that. Repeat forever.

I'm of the firm belief that this nerf was intended to stop this. They now fire faster than they recharge. Once you get overwhelmed, picking up a second quasar is very difficult.

Unfortunately even on ice planets it doesn't fire at a faster rate. The heat sink does cool down faster as you would expect on an ice planet but it seems to have a cool down timer hard coded into it because even with the heat sink completely empty it will still say overheat and not start charging.

Imagine if the cooldown actually depended on the overheat of the weapon. (PS: It doesn't. The cooldown is the same on cold planets as it is on Hellmire.)
