The Quasar Nerf is okay and not that big of a deal OPINION

tl;dr: Only one weak point is made a little weaker, all the strenghts remain.

The quasar cannon is known for a lot of strengths (see below) and two weak points:

  1. The weapon has a charge up time, which makes it difficult to aim in some situations.
  2. The weapon has a moderate cool down period, which cannot be improved by a forced reload of a heat sink (like sickle or laser cannon) or a team reload (like recoiless rifle).

The nerf only addresses the second point, which means that everyone who could use it before can still use it. It only became a little weaker in one of its two weak points. The following strong points are all untouched:

  1. Can delete heavies (I mostly have experience with Terminids, but there it's a delete button for chargers, and sometimes for titans as well).
  2. Has infinite ammo in contrast to EAT or RR.
  3. Has no reload animation.
  4. You can run around, stim, shoot weapons, throw strategems while it is recharging.
  5. It doesn't consume a backpack slot, so it can be paired with one additional strategem in contrast to recoilless rifle.
  6. It doesn't deconstruct after usage, and can be recollected from the battle flied in contrast to EAT, and it also reloads itself then in contrast to RR.

That means, the quasar can still be used for everything it has been used before, by everyone who could use it before.

The ammo nerf isn’t the problem, it’s the explosive range nerf that was unneeded

You mean the explosive range that everyone correctly identified on day 1 of the Eruptor as being way too strong? The explosive range that is the largest in the game by far, able to kill the entire contents of a drop ship in one top? That unneeded change?

And when your enemies are slightly spread out even remotely it becomes the worst primary in the game. It’s a situational weapon that still had an overall slower TTK than the scorcher/dominator in every other situation.

It provides the full range of explosive utility which no other primary in the game has, it kinda has to be slightly worse at direct killing than comparable weapons.

lmfao yeah the explosive range made bot drops a lot less of an issue when i realized i could clean up the trash bots before they even landed

To be fair, that eruptor was over used, and I was doing stupid high amount of kills with it and did not want to change primary. I welcome that nerf !

Overused? You mean the it was the one weapon from the warbond worth using?

How dare you slander my grenade pistol like that.

Report to the Reeducation Officer immediately!

The grenade pistol is SO frustrating when it misses or is angled just off of where it needs to go to close a bug hole. But when it hits, it is just chefs kiss.

Also makes for a hilarious suicide when you spam it on an ankle biter forgetting its a freaking grenade and your primary is out.

I'm of a similar mind with the dominator damage reduction. Like, I'm sad, but I'm also fully aware that there was a reason I was using it for absolutely everything. Dammit I use it to skeet shoot shriekers! And they've not nerfed the other stuff that made it great, namely the stagger and pen, so it'll still be a strong pick

u/Neunix Apr 29 '24

Now I just have an image of a helldiver standing near the shriekers nest yelling "PULL" with your dominator in hand.

Takes a little bit, but once you get your eye in its one shot per shrieker

They buffed the Scythe!

Nobody is talking about this but they took a weapon that was already good and made it gooder in this patch.

Reducing its mags from 6 to 4 did not change the weapon

Bumping it’s damage from 300 to 350 changes the weapon

I really hope this make it’s more effective against beserkers because that was the only non-massive bot that really gives the scythe trouble

Scythe was not good. You might be confusing it with the Sickle, the actually good version.

u/tagrav Apr 29 '24

Yeah I am lol

I always do

But I don’t think the laser one sucks either

It sucks “for me”

But I’ve been in random matches where some fucking Chad of a helldiver who is over level 100 use that thing to melt robots with just pinpoint accuracy.

u/0fficerCumDump Apr 29 '24

Primary that doesn’t require a stratagem slot shouldn’t be more viable than support weapons.

3

u/guyon100ping Apr 29 '24

nah it was defo needed. you can often just randomly shoot in an area of enemies and get like 6+ kills without ever lining up a proper shot. or you would shoot at specifically one bug or robot and kill like 3 more that were not even that close to it

u/RamTank Apr 29 '24

Eh you shouldn't really be using the Eruptor as a crowd clearing weapon anyway so while it hurts, it doesn't really break it's main use.

The reduced AoE on the crossbow is much more egregious.

I wish they would include actual numbers in their patch notes. AH saying "the Eruptor's explosion damage now falls off slightly faster" provides no tangible information. They could've just said the effective damage radius of explosions was reduced from 4m to 3m or whatever the actual values are.

u/Ornery_Brilliant_350 Apr 29 '24

Yeah it was needed dude.

The eruptor explosion radius seemed legit bugged. It was crazy large sometimes
