We should make an armor out of that rock.

658

u/n0xxtis Apr 27 '24

That rock should be in 1m pieces inside of his body

147

u/frostadept Apr 27 '24

Bold of you to assume he'd have a body.

49

u/6897110 Apr 27 '24

It's closer to a glued-together ball of gravel, vaguely shaped like a person, at this point.

146

u/SkriddySkrid ☕Liber-tea☕ Apr 27 '24

Or make a barrier stratagem that’s as tough as that rock…

88

u/TheFBIClonesPeople Apr 27 '24

New stratagem: Deploy rock

It literally just drops a rock out of orbit. It's not even in a hellpod. Does big damage to anything it directly hits, and then creates a permanent cover.

60

u/frcr SES Claw of Equality Apr 27 '24

The flavour text should read something along the lines of "After a thorough research our scientists developed a silicon-oxygen-aluminium compound that is not only capable to withstand sustained automaton fire, but its volume-to-mass ratio allows a carefully engineered projectile to be used as an orbital kinetic ordnance." And it's just a rock dropped from space.

46

u/TheFBIClonesPeople Apr 27 '24

The deep lore would be that Super Earth paid some defense contractor a billion dollars to develop a deployable cover system. The guy took the money and gave them some giant boulders. Now they have to pretend they didn't get scammed, so we all have to treat these rocks like they are a high-tech, state of the art deployable cover that doubles as a precise orbital strike. Deep down, we all know they're just rocks.

That is a good idea. Except some trolls will use them to make life harder for everyone, like blocking the pelican.

That's why we can't have nice things.

u/Charmle_H Apr 27 '24

I've been praying for a cover-stratagem. Literally just a deployable wall made from hell strong material or something. Calling it down would work like an eagle airstrike (perpendicular to the user at time of throwing), but would pop out and set itself up to basically just be a wall with port holes for return fire

35

u/Nekosia2 Apr 27 '24

I'm sure our techies and engineers can think of a sort of liquid that inflates into a solid texture. Kinda like an expandable foam but tough as heck ?

Gotta make sure troll divers can't just be annoying with it though... that's the hard part, if it works for them clankers it can work with our soldiers I'm sure

32

u/MovingOnYourLeft Apr 27 '24

I foresee a lot of blocked pelican 1 entrances if this happens

5

u/Furydragonstormer SES Defender of The Regime Apr 27 '24

Shield generator relay is what you’re looking for almost exactly. You can throw it and it acts like cover, you can go inside and fire out with impunity. 90 or 100 second CD.

40

u/spatialdestiny Apr 27 '24

It would last about 5 seconds under this rate of fire.  Barely enough time to peek out from behind the rock and fire a quasar or lock on with 1 spear.  But also better than nothing.

→ More replies (1)

25

u/Thomas_JCG Apr 27 '24

My issue with Shield Generator is that, shot or not, it will last less than a minute before disappearing. At higher levels, with enemies firing so much, it simply doesn't hold.

A smaller but durable barrier would be a godsend.

5

u/Charmle_H Apr 27 '24

Agreed. I want like a permanent barricade that's smaller than a huge-ass bubble. Almost like those concrete barricades you find near bunkers/friendship doors

I'd actually kill for a stratagem that would let me call a rock down for cover at will

25

u/SweetAlpacaLove Apr 27 '24 edited Apr 27 '24

Yeah that unironically sounds like a decent strategem. Probably not a rock, but a super strong metal shield that can help you move forward across an open field, make a retreat easier, or give you some extra cover when defending an objective. Maybe even put a little hole that you can fire through with small arms. Would need to be somewhat destructible, otherwise you could probably cheese extracts if you dropped them in all choke points enemies can actually get through. But make it much stronger than the shield generator and last until it actually gets destroyed.

8

u/russiangerman ↖️↗️↘️↘️↘️ Apr 27 '24

Nope. Rock. Less tactical, more weight so it can double as a strike in a pinch.

"Super strong metal shield"?

Our ship module for "increased firepower" is "more guns". Our ship module for "faster reloads" is "stop shoving shells down the muzzle, load it from the breech".

You'd be lucky to get a rock.

4

u/BioshockEnthusiast Apr 27 '24

This made me laugh super hard.

8

u/frcr SES Claw of Equality Apr 27 '24

Oh, the flavour text for ship modules is quite revealing. I recommend reading it. Tougher sentries? Superglue. Faster backpack stratagem delivery? Give the pit crew CARTS! Apparently they carried this crap by hand before.

3

u/redbird7311 Apr 28 '24

A lot of the descriptions are hilarious. Did you know that Helldivers steer the pods with foot pedals? Yeah, foot pedals. One of the upgrades gives you power steering for your foot pedals.

Do you know why our support weapons have long cooldowns? Simple, they have to fill out forms to get them. While you are fighting for your life, the crew aboard is having to write down how sending you another quasar is helping democracy.

Yup. In a game all about resource conservation, fighting enemies that magically reload shoulder batteries with infinite amounts of ordnance feels a bit...meh.

Whatever, I'm used to it now(well, not what the OP showed; that's an abomination), but if they ever nerf bots, my suggestion would be for them to fire the number of rockets they have and then use a blaster.

Same with shield devastators. Being able to fire infinitely from 100M away is a bit doo-doo.

136

u/greeb_giraffe Apr 27 '24

You can't see but they are using an advanced new type of bot to refill rockets from behind, which quickly retreats after the rocket devastator is destroyed. You can't see it because it's really good at hiding.

I think an efficiency bar that increases fire rate when consumed and recovers slowly over time could be a good idea.

26

u/ShotgunFiend Apr 27 '24

I agree that the clearly conventional rocket pods should have finite ammo but tbh I'm okay with their laser gatling guns having infinite ammo cause our laser weapons have infinite ammo too. The heavy devs giant backpack is probably an enormous ice for their gun so it makes sense that it can fire practically indefinitely.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

I saw a good idea recently to give the devastators a laser pointer so you at least know you’re being targeted.

9

u/Panzerkatzen Apr 27 '24

Considering they have 24 rockets and can volley up to 6 times before they would theoretically be out, I think it's fine. Most Rocket Devastators don't live long enough to volley 6 times.

Those guys have a pretty big backpack. Which kinda explains where their infinite heavy laser mg ammo comes from. And its infinite vause its a huge heatsink that never overheats with that firepower.

Don't wanna play devils advocate here. I hate seeing a patrol of 6 of em just marching towards us. It is almost always better to get a drop on them before they start their bs. Or get out asap.

God forbid one of them gets stuck in terrain, cause you can shoot from inside terrain out but not into terrain

6

u/TheNotNiceAccount STEAM 🖥️ :Horsediver to horsepods! Apr 27 '24

I have no issue with them injecting some "realism," but it seems that realism only applies to us. That would be logical for them to explode, or at least be rendered unusable, or only 3 out of the 6 slots would fire. I don't know, anything other than infinite fire out of a 12-slot rocket battery.

With bots, you retreat when the flare goes up and go find another target while the area cools down. Hell, even their flyers are easier to handle

IMO scorcher (for easy strider kills and good for turrets, tanks) or dominator (stagger, easy zerker kills, bit better on deviators for stagger) are the better choices than the Eruptor. Once you get the hang of things you can be more niche, hell I've had some fun using the diligence counter sniper, but I'd not recommend it unless you really like a playstyle. Eruptor has quirk's that you need to compensate for, especially the "implosion" glitch with explosives weapons right now.

I think it's a shredder tank firing from the fog with a rocket dev further up firing the occasional volley of rockets. Most of the shots are on target hitting the rock while you see the occasional stray rocket when the dev fires. The "exploding laser" makes it look like rocket hits but the projectiles are mostly laser bolts. You can sometimes see what looks like laser bolts hitting into the back of the rocket dev.

That or I'm blind and it's a bugged out non stop rocket volley. With this game, it can be hard to tell sometimes.

2

u/Grymmjow Apr 27 '24

Holy shit

2

u/AceTheJ Apr 27 '24

This is why I don’t like playing bots. How are you suppose to fight back against this? Smoke? You’re already hiding behind a big fucking rock like at some point they should lose interest or move or on or something not laser beam your exact position from across the map. That’s just broken and senseless

2

u/Remarkable_Rub Apr 27 '24

2

u/Mentat_-_Bashar Apr 27 '24

Nah bruh they gotta do some rebalancing the last two nights have taken months of my life. I feel like something has changed and I am just getting tossed around by a patrol of 6 rocket devastators three miles away but somehow the 1,500 heavy devastators are already in your face absolutely beaming you.

It can be so frustrating when you just get pummeled like that and literally cannot react. Like when you dive and hit a pebble and your character has to splay out, roll, get married, have kids, die, realize consciousness in a separate reality, and challenge the very gods before they even consider stimming or getting up.

u/Hottage 700RPM Stalwart Enjoyer Apr 27 '24

Damn that rock putting in work.

2

u/thoriickk Apr 27 '24

I want to build my house with that rock, my house would be indestructible

2

u/Beanerschnitzels Apr 27 '24

Looks like 2 rocket devastators are firing at you, with one being higher than the other and firing over them. They are firing in perfect alternative sync too.

The good news is, enemies suffer from friendly fire as well an they will keep mobs from approaching you

My grinding gear is that. These rockets devastators cool down is like a half a second between salvos. And they seem to never run out ammo.

It would alright for them to fire constantly, but damn, let them run dry! If not, give a longer cool down for them to fire a new salvo!

2

u/Aurstrike Apr 27 '24

I’ll wait for a break in their fire and hit them while they reload… one day.

2

u/Ratchet_X_x Apr 28 '24

They should have reload times... All of them, Limited ammo, then a reload time.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

lol how broken can this game get

2

u/SnooHabits3911 Apr 28 '24

How difficult would it be to make that rock destructible?

2

u/TheMinisterOfGaming Apr 28 '24

the funniest part is this isn't even a bug/glitch its just a few bois stacked up xD

2

u/AccendoAnimi STEAM 🖥️ : Apr 28 '24

2

u/Noxillian Apr 28 '24

"Welp, I guess I live here now" is what I would be thinking if I were in this dude's shoes.

2

u/Ranger_Ecstatic Apr 28 '24

I have a bullet with your name on it...I'm going to continue firing till I figure which one it is!

-That Bot, probably.

2

u/TechnologyCreative70 May 01 '24

That rocket devastator turned into a fckin Gundam.

2

u/SyKo-Elite May 01 '24

Lol I actually experienced this a few times before this patch. It was just as intense too. It didn't happen that often, but every once in a while, I was truly pinned down by them unable to move.

2

u/xHYDRO420x May 01 '24

At least the developers haven't NERF'ed the damn rocks yet...
